2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Shop CCTV: what it costs and what it proves

Pricing CCTV for a small shop: what drives the cost, how much storage you need, and how footage is used with the police, your bank and in court.

The short answer

A small-shop CCTV system costs whatever the cameras, recorder, storage, installation and power backup add up to, so get two or three written quotes rather than relying on a quoted "average". Footage can support a police report or a bank dispute, but in Nigerian courts electronic records must meet section 84 of the Evidence Act 2011, which can be shown by a certificate or by oral evidence from someone who knows the system.

What you are paying for

A CCTV quote in Nigeria is usually several items bundled together. Knowing them lets you compare quotes line by line rather than on one total.

ItemWhat it doesWhat moves the price
CamerasRecord the till, door, stock areaNumber, resolution, night vision, indoor or outdoor
Recorder (DVR or NVR)Stores footage from all camerasNumber of channels, hard-drive size
Hard driveHolds the recordingsCapacity; decides how many days you keep
Cabling and installationRuns power and video to each cameraDistance, wall type, labour
Power backupKeeps recording through outagesInverter or UPS size
Remote viewingLets you watch on your phoneInternet subscription, app setup

Power deserves attention. A camera system that switches off when the grid goes and the generator is not yet on will have gaps at the times thieves prefer. Ask the installer what happens to recording during a changeover.

A labelled cost example

Example only, for planning; these are not market prices. Say the quotes you collect come to ₦45,000 per camera for four cameras (₦180,000), ₦90,000 for a four-channel recorder, ₦60,000 for a 1TB drive, ₦70,000 for cabling and installation and ₦100,000 for a small UPS. The total is ₦180,000 + ₦90,000 + ₦60,000 + ₦70,000 + ₦100,000 = ₦500,000. Use your own quotes in the same sum, and ask each installer to split the price this way.

Questions to ask every installer

  1. What resolution and bitrate will each camera record at, and how many days will the drive hold?
  2. Does recording continue during a power changeover, and for how long on backup?
  3. Can I export a clip to USB myself, with the date and time shown?
  4. Who keeps the admin password, and can I change it on handover?
  5. What does the warranty cover, and who comes out if a camera fails?

How much storage you need

Footage is only useful if it is still on the drive when you need it. Problems often surface days later: a stock count that does not add up, or a bank asking for evidence about a disputed card payment.

Example only. If each camera records at 2 megabits per second, one hour is 2 × 3,600 = 7,200 megabits, or 900 megabytes. A day is 24 × 0.9 = 21.6GB per camera, and four cameras use 86.4GB a day. A 1TB (1,000GB) drive then holds about 1,000 ÷ 86.4 = 11.5 days before the oldest footage is overwritten. Ask your installer what bitrate the cameras actually use; motion-only recording stretches the days.

  • Aim to keep at least two weeks, longer if your disputes tend to arrive late.
  • Export any incident to a USB drive the same day, before it is overwritten.
  • Note the recorder's clock. If it is wrong, record the difference; a mismatch between footage time and receipt time weakens your evidence.

What footage proves, and what it does not

Footage shows what happened in front of a camera. It can show a person at the till at 3.14pm, a hand moving a carton, a customer tapping a card. It does not on its own prove what was in the carton, how much was in the drawer or who was paid what. It works best alongside records: the till book, the POS slip, a transfer record, a stock count.

With the police

Report at the station nearest the incident and offer a copy of the clip. A 2018 Canadian immigration board report on Nigerian police reports, drawing on a Special Fraud Unit officer, says a report is obtained from the station that recorded the complaint and that no fees are incurred for requesting one. Keep the original on your recorder and hand over copies.

With your bank or acquirer

The CBN's Guidelines on Operations of Electronic Payment Channels (2020, section 2.4.1.13) require merchants to provide evidence immediately when an acquirer raises a dispute. A clip of the customer at the terminal, with the matching slip, is the kind of evidence that helps. See chargeback risk for POS agents.

In court

Section 84 of the Evidence Act 2011 sets conditions for admitting computer-generated evidence. A May 2025 Mondaq analysis notes that these can be proved by a certificate under section 84(4) or, following Jubril v FRN (Court of Appeal, 2018), by oral evidence from someone familiar with how the system operates, and that in Sylva v Dickson (Supreme Court, 2017) the device used to play evidence in court did not itself need to meet section 84. Keep a note of who installed and maintains the system. This is information, not legal advice.

Placement and privacy

  • Cover the till from above and behind the cashier, the door, and the stock room.
  • Do not point a camera at the POS keypad; it records customers' PINs. See POS terminal placement and PIN privacy.
  • Put up a notice that CCTV is in use, and limit who can view or export footage. Footage of identifiable people is likely to be personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023; see data rights under the NDPA.

CCTV is one control among several; for the others see staff theft controls that work.

Questions people ask

How much does CCTV cost for a small shop in Nigeria?

It depends on the number of cameras, the recorder, drive size, installation and power backup. Get two or three written quotes split by item and compare them line by line.

Is CCTV footage admissible in Nigerian court?

Computer-generated evidence must meet section 84 of the Evidence Act 2011. Courts have accepted a section 84(4) certificate or oral evidence from someone familiar with the system. Take legal advice for a real case.

How many days does a CCTV hard drive record?

It depends on camera count, bitrate and recording mode. In our example, four cameras at 2Mbps fill a 1TB drive in about 11.5 days. Ask your installer for your actual figure.

Can I give CCTV footage to the police?

Yes. Give a copy and keep the original on your recorder. Note the recorder clock and any difference from real time.
