Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Spain

Shipping a car from Spain to Nigeria: duty and steps

The age limit, the charges Customs adds up at Lagos and the clearing steps, with an example. Why a returning resident still pays duty on a car.

The short answer

Nigeria prohibits used vehicles more than 12 years old from year of manufacture, according to the Nigeria Trade Information Portal's prohibited list. A car that qualifies pays import duty, a levy that was cut to 5% for used vehicles from 1 July 2026 (reported by Arise News), 7.5% VAT and a 1% CISS charge, and is cleared through a licensed customs agent at the port.

A car bought in Spain can look like good value once you compare it with prices in Lagos. Whether it stays good value depends on its age, its engine size and the charges that land on it at the port. Work those out before you buy.

Can your car enter Nigeria at all?

The Nigeria Trade Information Portal's import prohibition list includes used vehicles more than 12 years old. Legit.ng (18 August 2026) describes the same limit, counted from the year of manufacture, and says left-hand-drive vehicles are generally required. Some older relocation guides quote 10 or 15 years, so confirm the current limit with your clearing agent against the Customs list before you buy. Spanish cars are left-hand drive, which helps.

What Customs charges

The charges are calculated on the vehicle's value for customs purposes (broadly cost, insurance and freight, CIF), using the tariff line for the vehicle.

ChargeWhat the sources say
Import dutySet by the tariff line. In one 2024 case reported by TheNigeriaLawyer, Customs applied 20% duty to a 2024 SUV.
Import levyArise News (3 July 2026): from 1 July 2026, 10% for new vehicles (from 20%), 5% for used (from 15%), 0% for electric.
Green Tax SurchargeLegit.ng: 2% for 2,000 to 3,999 cc, 4% for 4,000 cc and above; electric vehicles excluded.
VAT7.5% (NTIP import procedure).
CISS1% of CIF (NTIP import procedure).

A worked example

Example only, using the rates above and assuming a used 1.8-litre saloon with a customs value of ₦20,000,000 and a 20% duty line. We also assume VAT is charged on the value plus the other charges; your agent's assessment is what counts.

  • Import duty, 20%: ₦4,000,000
  • Levy, 5%: ₦1,000,000
  • CISS, 1%: ₦200,000
  • VAT, 7.5% of ₦25,200,000: ₦1,890,000
  • Green Tax: none in this example (under 2,000 cc)
  • Total charges: ₦7,090,000, before agent fees, port charges and transport

A 2.5-litre car with the same value would add a 2% Green Tax Surcharge; check with your agent whether it is charged on the value or another base.

Costs beyond Customs

The Customs bill is only part of the total. Budget separately for each of these, and ask for written quotes:

  • Transport in Spain to the port and port handling at origin.
  • Sea freight to Lagos, and marine insurance if you want cover beyond the carrier's limited liability.
  • Terminal and shipping line charges in Lagos, which grow with each day the car waits.
  • Your clearing agent's fee, ideally itemised so you can see which lines are government charges.
  • Registration, number plates and roadworthiness checks in your state.

Keep the Spanish purchase invoice, the registration certificate and the technical data card. The agent will need the vehicle identification number, model year and engine capacity to classify the car and assess the charges, and a mismatch between documents and the vehicle itself is a common cause of delay.

Returning residents still pay

Nigerians moving home often expect their car to travel duty-free with their household goods. A Tin Can Island Port Command spokesperson, quoted by TheNigeriaLawyer (31 December 2024), cited the ECOWAS Common External Tariff schedule: baggage of Nigerians resident abroad for at least nine months is duty-free, but the concession "explicitly excludes vehicles". Budget for full charges.

Steps from Spain to the road in Nigeria

  1. Check the age, the steering side and the engine size against the rules above.
  2. Deregister the car in Spain for export with the DGT (baja for export); check the current DGT procedure and fee on its electronic office before you ship.
  3. Book shipping, either roll-on roll-off or in a container, to a Lagos port; the NTIP lists Apapa, Tin Can and Lekki among Nigeria's ports.
  4. In Nigeria, the importer (or agent) files a Form M through an authorised dealer bank and the PAAR on B'Odogwu, as the NTIP import procedure describes.
  5. Appoint a licensed customs agent; the NTIP says one is required to lodge the declaration.
  6. Pay the assessed duty and charges, clear inspection, then register the car with the state licensing authority.

For the import documents banks ask for, see Proforma, Form M, PAAR. Shipping other goods at the same time? Read sending a container of goods from Spain to Nigeria.

Where Pryme fits

The car is bought in euros and cleared in naira. A Pryme account holds both, and Swap shows the rate and fee before you approve, so you can convert when you are ready to pay the agent. You can send naira to your agent and keep a verifiable receipt of each payment from VerifyDoc.ai.

Questions people ask

What is the age limit for importing a used car into Nigeria?

The NTIP prohibition list bars used vehicles more than 12 years old; Legit.ng counts it from the year of manufacture. Confirm with your agent before buying.

How much is the levy on used cars in Nigeria in 2026?

Arise News reported that from 1 July 2026 the levy fell from 15% to 5% for used vehicles and from 20% to 10% for new ones.

Can I bring my car duty-free when I relocate to Nigeria?

No. The baggage concession for Nigerians resident abroad for nine months excludes vehicles, as a Customs spokesperson explained in a 2024 report.

Do I need a clearing agent for a car at Lagos port?

Yes. The NTIP import procedure says a licensed customs agent is required to lodge the declaration.
