Ten years, one trunk

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ghana

How do I send small business parcels from Lagos to Accra?

Courier or air cargo, the parcel still needs an invoice, a customs declaration in Ghana and the right permits for food, cosmetics or drugs. How to plan it.

The short answer

For small commercial consignments from Lagos to Accra you choose between an express courier (door to door, the courier clears customs) and air cargo through a freight forwarder (cheaper per kilo for heavier loads, with a separate clearing agent at Kotoka). Either way the goods are declared to Ghana Customs through ICUMS, food, cosmetics and medicines need FDA registration and a permit, and on the Nigerian side a commercial export is covered by a CBN Form NXP.

Courier or air cargo

Express courierAir cargo via forwarder
Best forSamples, documents, light parcelsHeavier or regular consignments
Who clears customsThe courier, usually as part of the serviceYour clearing agent at the airport
PricingPer parcel by weight and sizePer kilo (chargeable weight), plus handling and clearing
Paperwork you prepareCommercial invoice, contents descriptionInvoice, packing list, airway bill from forwarder, permits
Duty and tax paymentMay be collected from the receiver before deliveryPaid by the importer through the agent

There is no single cheapest option: it depends on weight, frequency and how much clearing work you can do yourself. Get two or three written quotes for the same weight and dimensions, and ask each to state what is included at the Accra end.

What Ghana Customs needs

The US International Trade Administration's Ghana import guide (6 August 2025) describes the formal import route: the customs declaration and supporting documents are submitted through ICUMS, and consignments may be checked by Customs, the FDA, the Ghana Standards Authority and plant or veterinary services where needed. Even if a courier files the declaration for you, it needs accurate information from you.

  • A commercial invoice with seller, buyer, a clear description of each item, quantity, unit value and currency.
  • A packing list for multi-carton shipments.
  • The HS code if you know it; otherwise a description good enough for the agent to classify.
  • Permits for regulated goods, in the Ghanaian importer's name.

Regulated goods in small parcels

Being small does not exempt a parcel from product rules. The FDA's guideline on prepackaged food imports (effective 2 July 2025) applies to all products imported for consumption, distribution or sale, and only FDA-licensed importers may import. The ITA guide says the FDA covers certain foods, cosmetics and drugs, with each product registered to get an import permit. So a box of Nigerian seasoning cubes for resale is an FDA-regulated import, even at 10 kg. Our pages on garri and palm oil and hair products go into the detail.

Things you cannot send

The Ghana Revenue Authority's list of absolute import prohibitions includes counterfeit currency, food unfit for consumption, obscene articles and dangerous weapons; currency and securities need a Bank of Ghana licence. On the Nigerian side, Nigeria Customs' export prohibition list includes maize, raw hides and skins, scrap metal, unprocessed rubber, artefacts and antiquities and endangered wildlife. Couriers also keep their own lists of items they will not carry, such as batteries or liquids, so check before you pack. See restricted imports into Ghana.

The Nigerian export side

A business sending goods for sale abroad is making a commercial export. The CBN introduced the electronic Form NXP in October 2019, describing it as a requirement for commercial exports, filed through the Trade Monitoring System with a valid tax identification. A courier or forwarder may ask for the NXP reference, or handle low-value parcels under its own procedure; ask before you book. The NXP rules are explained in our Nigeria guide on Form NXP and export proceeds.

Worked example: comparing two quotes

Example only. A Lagos skincare brand sends 18 kg of registered products to an Accra stockist every month.

Courier quote
Single price for 18 kg door to door; duty and tax collected from the stockist
Forwarder quote
18 kg at a per-kilo rate, plus airline handling, plus a clearing agent fee in Accra
Hidden differences
Chargeable weight on bulky boxes; storage if permits are late; who pays duty
Decision rule
Compare total landed cost at the stockist's door, not the headline rate

If the boxes are light but large, both quotes may be based on volumetric weight rather than the 18 kg on the scale. Ask each provider how it calculates chargeable weight.

Packing and paperwork habits that save time

  • Put a copy of the invoice and packing list inside the parcel and another on the outside in a document pouch.
  • Describe goods precisely ("50 jars of 250 ml shea body butter", not "cosmetics").
  • Use the same product names on the invoice as on the FDA registration.
  • Keep one invoice per consignment, and do not split or merge shipments without telling your agent.
  • Photograph the packed cartons and labels before handover.

What to check first

  • Whether your product is FDA-regulated in Ghana and registered there.
  • Who is the Ghanaian importer of record, and who pays duty on arrival.
  • Whether the courier or forwarder needs a Form NXP reference from you.
  • Prohibited and carrier-restricted items in the box.
  • That the invoice value matches what the buyer will pay.

Where Pryme fits

A Lagos business selling into Ghana can invoice its Accra stockists through Pryme invoicing and receive payment into a Pryme Business account. Outside Nigeria, Pryme works through regulated partners; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Do small parcels from Nigeria pay duty in Ghana?

Commercial goods are declared to Ghana Customs and duty may be due; a courier may collect it from the receiver. Ask for a duty estimate before shipping.

Can I send Nigerian food to Ghana by courier for resale?

Food for sale is FDA-regulated in Ghana: the importer must be FDA-licensed and the product registered, whatever the parcel size.

Do I need Form NXP to send goods from Lagos to Accra?

The CBN describes Form NXP as a requirement for commercial exports. Ask your courier or forwarder how it handles low-value consignments.

Which airport in Ghana receives air cargo from Lagos?

Air cargo for Accra arrives at Kotoka International Airport, where the courier or your clearing agent handles customs.
