Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Sending to a joint account in Nigeria: whose name to enter

How to fill in the beneficiary name when sending from the US to a joint Nigerian bank account, so the transfer is not rejected or held for a name mismatch.

The short answer

Enter the full name of one account holder exactly as it appears on the joint account, first name and surname, and use the name the receiving bank shows when the account number is checked if your app displays it. Do not invent a combined name or use initials; a mismatch between the name you type and the bank's record is the most common reason a transfer to Nigeria is held or returned.

Why the name field matters so much

A transfer to a Nigerian bank account is matched on two things: the 10-digit account number and the name. Providers and banks compare the name you enter with the name on the account. GTBank's page for inbound MoneyGram transfers tells senders to send in the account holder's first name and surname. Western Union's US terms say it may pay where names differ in minor ways but has no obligation to pay if the name differs. A joint account makes this harder because the bank holds more than one name against one number.

Which name to use

  1. Ask the recipient for the account name exactly as printed on a statement or shown in their banking app. Joint accounts in Nigeria may be titled with both names, or with one name followed by "and" or "or" and the other. We could not find a published standard format, which is why the statement is the safest guide.
  2. If your app checks the account number and displays the account name before you confirm, copy that name. It is the bank's own record.
  3. If the app only lets you type a first and last name, enter one holder's full first name and surname, the one listed first on the account, exactly as spelt.
  4. Do not add titles (Mr, Mrs, Chief, Dr), nicknames or middle names the bank does not hold.
  5. If the provider rejects a joint title because the field is too short, use one holder's name and keep a note of the full account title in case support asks.

Example

Example only. Your parents hold a joint savings account titled "Okonkwo Chukwuemeka and Okonkwo Adaeze" in their bank's records. In an app that asks for first name and last name, enter Chukwuemeka as first name and Okonkwo as last name. Writing "Mr & Mrs Okonkwo" or "Emeka Okonkwo" risks a mismatch.

What to check first

  • The account name on a recent statement or in the banking app, character for character.
  • The 10-digit account number, read back to the recipient.
  • The bank's exact name, especially after mergers where the old name still appears on cards and statements.
  • Whether the account is a naira account. Since 1 May 2026, CBN rules require international money transfer operators (IMTOs) to pay customers in naira only.
  • Whether the account is active and unrestricted; a restricted account can reject or trap a credit (see frozen recipient accounts).

Can the second holder collect or withdraw?

Once the money is credited, it sits in the joint account and either or both holders can use it according to the account's mandate, the bank's rule on whether one signature or both are needed. That is between the holders and their bank, not the sender. Cash pickup is different: the person collecting must show ID in the name you entered. WorldRemit's cash pickup FAQ says the recipient needs valid photo ID with a full name matching the transfer, plus the reference.

Joint accounts that do not accept every channel

Some Nigerian banks restrict channels on joint accounts. GTBank's 737 service, for example, is not available on joint accounts, which affects how the holders move money afterwards. Ask the recipient whether the account can receive international inflows. If they also hold a personal account in their own name, that is often the cleaner destination.

If the transfer is held or returned

  • Check the name and account number in your receipt against the bank statement.
  • Ask the provider whether the issue is a name mismatch; many let you correct the name without cancelling.
  • If it was returned, ask for the refund or resend with the corrected name.
  • If the money went to the wrong account because the number was wrong, the CFPB rule has a specific process; see sent money to the wrong Nigerian account.

For the full list of details family should give you, see receiving bank details your family must give, and for BVN-related mismatches transfers that fail on a name mismatch. Couples weighing joint against separate accounts at home can read joint or separate accounts.

Where Pryme fits

You can send to Nigerian accounts from a Pryme Personal Account. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Which name do I put when sending to a joint account in Nigeria?

The full name of one holder exactly as on the account, or the account name your app shows after checking the number. Avoid combined names, titles and nicknames.

Can I write both names in the beneficiary field?

Only if the app accepts the full account title. If the field is first name and last name, use one holder's name.

Will the transfer fail if I use my mother's name on my parents' joint account?

Not if her name is on the account and spelt as the bank holds it. Mismatches in spelling are the usual cause of failures.

Can either person collect cash pickup sent to a joint account holder?

No. Cash pickup is paid to the person named on the transfer, who must show matching ID.
