Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Sending money to Nigeria in person in Manchester

How to find an authorised money transfer agent in Manchester for Nigeria, check it on the FCA register, and avoid cash deals that are not regulated.

The short answer

To send money to Nigeria over the counter in Manchester, use a registered agent of an authorised money transfer firm: find it through the firm's own agent locator, then confirm on the FCA register that the shop is listed as that firm's agent. Pay with ID in hand, get a receipt with a tracking number, and expect your family to be paid in naira.

Greater Manchester is commonly described as home to a sizeable Nigerian community, and it has no shortage of shops with money transfer signs in the window. Some are agents of big international firms; some are independent businesses with their own authorisation; and a few offer informal cash-for-naira deals that sit outside regulation altogether. From the pavement they can look the same. This guide is about telling them apart before you hand over cash.

Three kinds of counter you may find

TypeHow it worksWhat protects you
Agent of an authorised firmThe shop takes your cash and books the transfer on the firm's systemThe firm is responsible for the service; the agent must be on the FCA register
Firm with its own branchA money transfer business serving customers directly from its own premisesThe firm's own FCA authorisation or registration
Informal cash-for-naira dealYou hand over pounds; someone in Nigeria pays your family nairaNone of the above; no regulated record of the payment

The first two can both be legitimate. The third is where most problems start, from vanished cash to accounts frozen in Nigeria because the naira came from an unknown third party. Our guide to the risks of P2P naira swaps covers it in detail.

How to find an authorised agent

  1. Start with the provider. Choose the firm first, then use its own locator. Western Union's UK help pages point to its online "Find a nearby agent location" tool and note that each location sets its own hours.
  2. Check the firm can pay into Nigeria. The Central Bank of Nigeria publishes a list of the international money transfer operators it has licensed. In October 2026 it had more than a hundred entries, including Western Union, MoneyGram, RIA Financials, WorldRemit Limited and Remitly Inc.
  3. Check the shop on the FCA register. Regulation 34 of the Payment Services Regulations 2017 says a payment institution may not provide payment services in the UK through an agent unless that agent is on the register. Search the shop's trading name or address and look for the principal firm it is listed under. Our guide on checking FCA authorisation shows how.
  4. Ask who you are dealing with. The same regulation requires firms to ensure their agents tell customers about the agency arrangement. A clear answer, matching the register, is a good sign.

Warning signs at the counter

  • The rate offered is far better than every app and the firm's own website.
  • No receipt, or a handwritten one with no tracking number.
  • The person asks you to pay into a personal UK account instead of at the till.
  • Your family is told to expect a call from "our person" rather than a credit from a named bank or paying agent.
  • You are asked to bring other people's cash to send in your name. See sending money for someone else.

Before you go: a short checklist

  • Valid photo ID. Western Union says senders must show valid identification and may be asked for more for certain amounts; a passport avoids most questions.
  • Cash, or check in advance whether the location takes cards.
  • The recipient's name exactly as their bank or ID shows it.
  • For bank deposit, the Nigerian bank and 10-digit account number; for cash pick-up, the recipient's own valid ID will be needed at collection.
  • Time to check the printed rate, fee and naira amount before you pay.

What arrives in Nigeria

Licensed operators pay Nigerian recipients in naira. The CBN set this in a circular of 31 January 2024, as reported by TheCable, and a further circular dated 24 March 2026, effective 1 May 2026, routed all payouts through naira settlement accounts at authorised dealer banks, according to Techeconomy's summary. Reports of the 2024 rules described cash pick-up for smaller amounts and bank deposit above about $200 equivalent. Ask the agent which payout options it can offer for the amount you are sending.

Where Pryme fits

If the trip to a counter is mainly about paying in cash, it may still be the right choice. If not, sending from the Pryme app pays a Nigerian bank account in naira from pounds you hold, and the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Security uses an authenticator app and a transaction PIN rather than SMS codes. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

How do I find a Western Union agent in Manchester?

Use Western Union's own online agent locator, then confirm the location on the FCA register as an agent of the firm before you pay.

Is it legal to give cash to someone in Manchester who pays my family naira in Nigeria?

An informal cash-for-naira deal is not a regulated payment and leaves no protected record. If the person is not an authorised firm or its registered agent, you carry the risk if money goes missing.

Can I send money to Nigeria at a Manchester shop without a passport?

Rules depend on the firm and the amount. Western Union says senders must show valid ID; a passport is the safest, so ask the agent which other documents it accepts.

Will my family get naira or pounds?

Naira. The CBN requires licensed transfer operators to pay remittances in naira, by bank deposit or cash pick-up.
