Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to check a money transfer firm is FCA authorised

Before sending money to Nigeria, check the firm on the FCA register: its status, its permissions, its real company name and the contact details.

The short answer

To check a money transfer firm, search for it on the FCA's Financial Services Register (the Firm Checker). Confirm it is authorised or registered, that its permissions cover the service it offers, and that the contact details you have match those on the register. The brand you use may trade under a different registered company name, which you will find in the website footer or terms.

Sending money to Nigeria often starts with a recommendation from a friend, a church group or a social media advert. Most remittance brands are legitimate, but clone firms and unregistered operators exist. A five-minute check on the FCA register tells you who you are dealing with and what they are allowed to do.

Step by step

  1. Find the company behind the brand. The FCA notes that a brand name can differ from the registered company name. Look at the bottom of the provider's website or in its terms and conditions for the legal name and, often, its firm reference number.
  2. Search the register. Use the FCA's Firm Checker or Financial Services Register and search by company name or reference number.
  3. Check the status. It should show as authorised or registered. Statuses such as "No longer authorised" or "Revoked" mean the firm cannot carry out regulated activities.
  4. Check the permissions. The FCA says to confirm the firm has permission for the specific service you want. For international transfers, look for payment services, as a payment institution or an electronic money institution.
  5. Compare the contact details. The register lists the firm's registered and trading names, main place of business and complaint contacts. If the website, phone number or email you were given does not match, treat it as a possible clone.
  6. Check the Warning List. The FCA publishes warnings about firms and individuals; search it as well.

What the register tells you

Firm type
Whether it is a bank or a non-bank payment provider. The FCA's guidance says the register shows this.
Authorised payment institution
Can offer a range of payment services, including money remittance abroad. Must safeguard customer money.
Small payment institution
Can offer similar services but with limits on total payment value. Not required to safeguard; the FCA suggests asking what protection it offers.
Electronic money institution
Stores e-money, for example in a wallet or app balance. Must safeguard customer money.
Trading names
The brands the firm uses. A brand you know should appear here.
History
Past status, fines and regulatory action.

For why the firm type matters, see what safeguarding means and whether FSCS covers remittance apps.

A labelled example

Example only. Chinedu sees an advert for "QuickNaira UK" offering a rate well above other apps. The website footer names a company and an FCA reference number. On the register, the number belongs to a real payment institution, but under a different trading name, with a different website and phone number. The advert's firm is using a genuine firm's details. Chinedu does not send money and reports the advert to the FCA.

The opposite case is common too: a well-known brand whose registered company name looks unfamiliar. If the register lists the brand among the firm's trading names and the contact details match, that is the expected result.

Clone firms

The FCA describes clone firms as fraudsters who copy a genuine, authorised firm, often using its name and reference number, and pretend to work for it. The register entry looks right because it is real; the difference is in the contact details. Always use the phone number, website and email shown on the register, not those in the message or advert that reached you.

Warning signs

  • An exchange rate far better than every other provider's.
  • Payment requested to a personal UK bank account, not the firm's.
  • Contact only by messaging app or social media.
  • Pressure to send quickly or to keep the transfer secret.
  • A website address that differs slightly from the real brand's.

Checking the Nigerian side

The Central Bank of Nigeria publishes a list of licensed international money transfer operators on its website. Many well-known brands appear on it; you can check the operator your provider uses for Nigerian payouts. Being on the CBN list is about paying out in Nigeria and does not replace the FCA check in the UK.

Agents and shops

If you send in person at a shop, the shop is often an agent of a larger firm rather than a firm in its own right. The FCA says the register can show a firm's appointed representatives alongside its other details. Ask the shop which company it acts for, check that company on the register, and make sure your receipt carries that company's name.

If something looks wrong

Do not send money. If you think you have been targeted by an unauthorised firm, the FCA asks you to report it through its "Report a scam" page. If you have already paid, contact your bank at once and report it; see how to report a money transfer scam.

Where Pryme fits

Outside Nigeria, Pryme's financial activities are carried out through regulated partners, and Naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. See how Pryme works and entities.

Questions people ask

How do I know if a money transfer company is legit in the UK?

Search the FCA's Financial Services Register for its registered company name, check its status and permissions, and compare its contact details with what you were given.

What is a clone firm?

A fraudster copying a genuine authorised firm's name and details. The FCA advises using only the contact details shown on the register.

Does FCA registration mean my money is FSCS protected?

No. Money held with non-bank payment and e-money firms is not FSCS protected; it is safeguarded instead, if the firm is required to safeguard.

Where do I find a firm's registered name?

In the website footer or the terms and conditions, as the FCA advises.
