Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Spain

Can I send euros from Spain to a Nigerian domiciliary account?

Euros reach a Nigerian euro domiciliary account by SWIFT bank transfer. Remittance apps pay naira. The details the Nigerian bank gives you.

The short answer

Yes, by a SWIFT transfer from your Spanish bank into a euro domiciliary account, using the details the Nigerian bank provides: account name and number, the bank's SWIFT code and its correspondent bank details. Remittance apps such as Remitly, Ria and Western Union pay out in naira, because licensed money transfer operators pay customers in Nigeria in naira under CBN rules, so they will not keep your euros as euros.

Some payments need to stay in euros: savings a parent holds against the naira, a tuition deposit for a European university, or money you plan to bring back to Spain later. Nigerian banks offer domiciliary (dom) accounts in foreign currencies, including euros. Getting euros into one from Spain is possible, but the route matters, because the most popular apps convert to naira on the way.

Two routes, two outcomes

RouteWhat arrivesWhy
SWIFT transfer from your Spanish bank to a euro dom accountEurosBank-to-bank payment in the currency you send, credited to the foreign-currency account
Remittance app or agent (Remitly, Ria, Western Union and others)NairaUnder the CBN's IMTO guidelines, operators pay customers in Nigeria in naira only

Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie summarised the position in March 2026: the IMTO Guidelines of January 2024 require payment to customers only in naira, through designated settlement accounts, and a CBN circular of 24 March 2026 on diaspora remittances took effect on 1 May 2026. Remitly's Spain page shows the receiver getting NGN. So if you choose "bank deposit" in an app and enter a dom account number, expect naira or a rejection, not euros.

Details the Nigerian bank gives you

For an inward foreign-currency payment, Nigerian banks publish or provide "inflow instructions". GTBank's FX inflow page is a good example of what to expect. It says the sender needs:

  1. The beneficiary's account number and name "as captured on BASIS" (the bank's own record).
  2. The bank name, Guaranty Trust Bank, and its SWIFT code, GTBINGLA.
  3. GTBank's account number with its correspondent bank for that currency.
  4. The correspondent bank's name or SWIFT code.

GTBank's page does not print the correspondent account numbers; they are in its "disposal instructions". Ask the account holder to get the current euro instructions from their bank, in writing, before you pay. Do not reuse old instructions from a relative's WhatsApp: correspondent details change.

Placing the transfer in your Spanish bank

  1. Choose an international (non-SEPA) transfer in euros. Nigeria is outside SEPA.
  2. Enter the beneficiary name and account number exactly as given, the beneficiary bank's SWIFT code, and the intermediary or correspondent bank details where your bank's form asks for them.
  3. Choose who pays charges: OUR, SHA or BEN. See which to pick.
  4. Add a clear purpose, such as "family savings" or "tuition deposit". GTBank says individual inflows from individual offshore remitters must state a purpose.
  5. Check your bank's fee and any conversion before confirming, and keep the SWIFT confirmation.

Once the euros arrive

GTBank says value is given when the funds reflect in its offshore accounts, and that credits above $10,000 are reported to the NDLEA and the CBN. On access, TheNigeriaLawyer reported in June 2026 that under the CBN's new Foreign Exchange Manual, ordinary domiciliary account holders have "unfettered and unrestricted access" to their balances. Pavestones Legal's summary of the same manual, on Mondaq, says cash withdrawals against inbound transfers are capped at the naira equivalent of US$200. How a bank applies these rules to a euro account is for the account holder to confirm with the bank.

If the payment comes back

A euro payment to a dom account can be returned if the name does not match the bank's record, the account is in another currency, or the correspondent details are out of date. A return comes back through the same chain, so expect charges to be deducted and allow several business days. Ask your Spanish bank for the return reason before resending, and get fresh inflow instructions from the Nigerian bank.

SWIFT or app: which suits what

  • SWIFT to a euro dom: the money keeps its currency; slower, with bank and correspondent charges.
  • Remittance app: usually quicker, naira on arrival, with a fee and an exchange-rate margin.
  • For a fuller treatment of dom transfers from abroad, see sending to a Nigerian dom account and SWIFT from a Spanish bank.

Where Pryme fits

If the aim is to hold euros for someone in Nigeria, there is another option. A Pryme account, opened from any country, holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local account details for each, and money stays in the currency it arrived in until you choose to convert with Swap. See multicurrency accounts. Naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank; outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Can I send euros to a Nigerian domiciliary account from Spain?

Yes, by SWIFT transfer from your bank into a euro dom account using the Nigerian bank's inflow instructions.

Will Remitly pay euros into a dom account?

No. Remitly's Spain page shows naira, and CBN rules require licensed money transfer operators to pay customers in Nigeria in naira.

What details do I need for a euro transfer to GTBank?

Account name and number, GTBank's SWIFT GTBINGLA, and GTBank's correspondent bank name and account for euros, from its inflow instructions.

Can the receiver withdraw euro cash from the dom account?

Rules changed with the 2026 FX Manual; reports differ on cash limits. The account holder should ask their bank.
