Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Cash flow planning for seasonal businesses in Nigeria

How a seasonal Nigerian business can map its year, size a cash reserve from peak months and cover fixed costs and remittances in slow months.

The short answer

Plan a seasonal business on a 12-month cash calendar: mark your peak and slow months, list the costs that do not stop in slow months, such as rent, salaries and the PAYE and pension remittances that follow them, and move a fixed share of peak-month cash into a reserve until it covers the deepest slow-month shortfall. Size the reserve from your own figures for last year, not from a rule of thumb.

Know your seasons

Many Nigerian businesses have a rhythm that repeats each year. Commonly reported patterns include a December festive peak for retail, food, events and travel; smaller peaks around Easter and the two Sallah holidays, whose dates move each year with the lunar calendar; school-related spending at the start of each term; and slower trade for some sectors in the rainy months or just after the festive season, when households are stretched. Your own sales history is the only reliable guide to which of these affect you and by how much.

Costs can be seasonal too. NBS data showed food prices rising 1.02% month on month in August 2026 and falling 1.55% in September. If you buy food inputs, your cost line moves as well as your sales line.

Build the cash calendar

Example only: a party supplies and decor business in Port Harcourt. Figures are in ₦ thousands. Cash out includes stock bought ahead of peaks, which is why November spending is high.

Over the year the business makes ₦600,000 of net cash. But starting January with nothing in reserve, it would be ₦900,000 short by October. The year is profitable and still runs out of money unless the cash from last December is kept back.

Size the reserve

  1. Find the lowest point of the running total. Here it is −₦900,000 in October.
  2. Add a margin for a worse year, for example 20% (illustrative): ₦900,000 × 1.2 = ₦1,080,000.
  3. Set that as the reserve to hold on 1 January.
  4. Fund it from the peak: in this example, December's +₦1,300,000 covers it, leaving ₦220,000 free.
  5. If one peak is not enough, sweep a fixed share of every good month, such as Easter, until the target is reached.

Keep the reserve in a separate account so it is not mistaken for spare cash, and write down the rule for using it: only to cover planned slow-month shortfalls, never for new equipment or the owner's spending.

Costs that do not pause

Slow months are when businesses are tempted to delay remittances. PwC's summary notes late payment of tax attracts 10% plus interest, so a delayed remittance becomes a more expensive debt. Put these dates in the calendar alongside sales.

Other ways to smooth the year

  • Take deposits on peak orders. A 50% deposit on December event bookings, paid in October or November, funds the stock you buy for them.
  • Add an off-season line. A decor business might rent equipment for church and corporate events in quiet months.
  • Agree seasonal supplier terms. Longer payment terms on pre-season stock, repaid from peak sales.
  • Match staffing to the season. Use fixed-term or casual staff for peaks, with written terms and notice that follow the Labour Act.
  • Avoid expensive short-term credit for slow months. If you must borrow, compare the total cost; see APR vs flat fee.

Mistakes seasonal businesses make

  • Treating December's bank balance as profit and spending it on the owner or new equipment in January.
  • Hiring permanent staff on the strength of one strong season.
  • Buying the whole peak stock with cash and leaving nothing for rent and salaries in the following quarter.
  • Planning from the yearly average. An average month never happens in a seasonal business; the calendar has to show each month separately.
  • Forgetting that customers who pay on credit in the peak may settle in the slow months, or not at all. Count cash when it is likely to arrive, not when the sale is made.
  • Leaving the reserve in the main account, where it is spent without anyone deciding to spend it.

Keep it current

Update the calendar each month with actual figures and roll it forward. A 13-week cash flow forecast handles the near term in detail, the 12-month calendar shows the shape of the year, and an emergency cash buffer sits on top for surprises. For the stock side of the December peak, see stock planning for December.

Where Pryme fits

The Finance agent on a Pryme Business Account can prepare a monthly update of the cash calendar from your transactions and remind you of remittance dates; a person approves any payment above the ceiling you set.

Questions people ask

How do seasonal businesses manage cash flow?

By mapping a 12-month cash calendar, finding the lowest point of the running total, holding a reserve at least that large from peak months, and planning fixed costs and remittances for slow months.

How much cash reserve should a seasonal business keep?

At least the deepest cumulative shortfall in your slow months, plus a margin for a worse year. Work it out from last year's actual cash in and out.

When should I start saving for the slow season?

From the first peak month. Move a fixed share of peak receipts into a separate reserve as soon as they come in.

Can I delay PAYE or pension in a slow month?

You should not. PAYE is due by the 10th of the following month and pension within seven working days of salary, and late tax payment attracts a penalty and interest.
