Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Stock planning for December: how much to buy and when

How a Nigerian shop can plan December stock line by line from last year's sales, check the order against cash, and stage purchases safely.

The short answer

Base your December order on last December's unit sales for each line, adjusted for this year's trend, less the stock you already hold, plus safety stock for the longer delivery times of the festive rush. Then test the total against your cash: the order, plus November and December running costs and a reserve for January, must be payable without borrowing at a high cost. If it is not, stage the order and pay the second part from December sales.

Start with an accurate count

A December plan built on wrong stock figures over-orders some lines and runs out of others. Do a full count in late October or early November using the monthly stock count procedure, and clear or discount slow lines before the season so shelf space and cash go to what sells.

Build the order line by line

Order = forecast December units + safety stock − stock on hand − stock already on order. Forecast units come from last December's sales adjusted for how this year is trending against last year.

Example only: a provisions shop's four main festive lines.

LineLast Dec unitsTrendForecastSafety stockOn handOrder
Rice, 50kg bag120+10%1321530117
Vegetable oil, 25L800%80102070
Tomato paste, carton200−10%1802060140
Seasoning cubes, carton150+5%1581540133

Check: rice 132 + 15 − 30 = 117; oil 80 + 10 − 20 = 70; tomato paste 180 + 20 − 60 = 140; seasoning 150 × 1.05 = 157.5, rounded to 158, then 158 + 15 − 40 = 133. Base the trend on your own year-to-date sales compared with last year, not on hope.

Safety stock should be larger than usual in December, because suppliers and roads are busier. Use your own record of how late deliveries ran last festive season; see reorder level and safety stock.

The cash check

Example only, using illustrative costs per unit delivered.

LineUnitsCost per unitTotal
Rice117₦75,000₦8,775,000
Vegetable oil70₦52,000₦3,640,000
Tomato paste140₦24,000₦3,360,000
Seasoning cubes133₦18,000₦2,394,000
Total order₦18,169,000

Cash available: ₦11,000,000 in the bank plus ₦6,500,000 of November sales expected before the payment dates, less ₦2,400,000 of November running costs and a ₦2,000,000 reserve kept for January's rent and salaries. That leaves ₦13,100,000, short of the ₦18,169,000 order by ₦5,069,000.

Closing the gap

  • Stage the order. Buy 60% now (₦10,901,400, which fits inside ₦13,100,000) and the rest in mid-December, paid from early December sales.
  • Cut the weakest line. Tomato paste is trending down; trim its order first.
  • Ask suppliers for festive terms, such as part payment on delivery and the balance in two weeks.
  • Take deposits from bulk buyers, churches, offices and caterers ordering for events.
  • Do not raid the January reserve. January is slow for many businesses, and rent and salaries still fall due.

Prices in the season

Food prices have been volatile. NBS put food inflation at 19.59% year on year in September 2026, though prices fell 1.55% from August to September; check the latest release. Buying early can avoid a festive price rise, but it also locks cash into stock sooner. Whatever you pay, price from replacement cost and update shelf labels before charging a new price; s.115 of the FCCPA bars charging more than the displayed price.

Timing

  1. Late October: count stock, review last December's sales by line.
  2. Early November: confirm forecasts, agree prices and delivery dates with suppliers.
  3. First half of November: place the first stage of the order.
  4. Late November: receive, check and shelve; set up extra display space.
  5. Mid-December: place the second stage based on how the first two weeks sold.
  6. Early January: count again and compare actual sales with the forecast for next year's plan.

Space, staff and security in the rush

  • Storage. Check that the extra stock fits before it arrives. Goods stacked in a passage get damaged, block fire exits and are easy to take.
  • Receiving. Bigger and more frequent deliveries mean more chances for short-delivery. Count every load against the invoice with the driver present.
  • Staff. Agree extra hours or temporary help in writing before the rush, with clear terms and pay dates.
  • Cash. Busier tills hold more cash. Bank or transfer takings more often and cash up each drawer at the end of every shift.
  • Counting. Do a quick count of the main festive lines each week in December, so the second-stage order is based on what actually sold rather than on what the shelf looks like.

After the season

Purely seasonal stock left in January, such as decorations or gift packs, may sell only at a discount. IAS 2 requires inventory to be written down to net realisable value, the expected selling price less the costs to sell, where that is below cost. Record the write-down and use it to set next year's quantities. For supermarket-specific detail see festive stock planning for supermarkets, and for the cash side of the year see cash flow planning for seasonal businesses.

Where Pryme fits

Grocery and retail businesses in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt with a Pryme Business Account can join Spaces, Pryme's network of merchants. Loans on Spaces, lent by Solid Allianze MFB to customers who accept an offer, can only be spent with Spaces merchants.

Questions people ask

How much stock should I buy for December?

Start from last December's unit sales for each line, adjust for this year's trend, add safety stock for slower festive deliveries, and subtract what you already hold or have on order.

When should I buy stock for Christmas in Nigeria?

Plan in late October, place the main order in the first half of November so stock is shelved before demand peaks, and top up in mid-December based on early sales.

What if I cannot afford my December stock order?

Stage the order, cut the weakest lines, ask suppliers for part-payment terms and take deposits on bulk orders. Keep a reserve for January rather than spending it all on stock.

What do I do with leftover festive stock?

Discount or bundle it early in January, write it down to what it will realistically sell for, and use the figures to buy less next year.
