Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Employer owing salary in Nigeria: what you can do

What Nigerian law says about when wages are due, how to document unpaid salary, the labour office and court routes, and the order to take each step.

The short answer

Under section 15 of the Labour Act, wages fall due at the end of each pay period, and at intervals of no more than one month, so an employer that holds back salary is in breach. The practical route is to document what is owed, demand it in writing, take a complaint to the labour office, and, if that fails, take legal action in the National Industrial Court, with advice from a lawyer.

What the law says about when you must be paid

The Labour Act is clear on timing and form for the workers it covers:

  • When: wages "shall become due and payable at the end of each period for which the contract is expressed to subsist", whether daily, weekly or another agreed period; if the period is longer than a month, wages are still due at intervals of no more than one month (s.15).
  • How: in legal tender, or by cheque or postal order only with the worker's prior written consent (s.1).
  • Deductions: none except as permitted by law, and never more than one third of a month's wages in total (s.5).
  • Written terms: within three months of starting, a statement including rates of pay and pay intervals (s.7).

The Act's definition of "worker" excludes people in administrative, executive, technical or professional roles. If you are a manager or professional, your contract is your main protection, but the principle is the same: pay that is due under a contract is a debt.

Step 1: work out exactly what is owed

Before writing to anyone, put the claim on one page:

MonthAmount dueAmount paidOwed
July (example)₦180,000₦0₦180,000
August (example)₦180,000₦90,000₦90,000
September (example)₦180,000₦0₦180,000
Total₦540,000₦90,000₦450,000

Attach your offer letter or written terms, payslips, bank statements showing what arrived and when, and any messages in which the employer promised payment. Bank statements are strong evidence because they show dates and amounts that neither side controls.

Step 2: demand payment in writing

Write a short, calm letter or email to the employer. State the amounts and months, attach your table, and give a date for payment, for example 14 days. Keep a copy and proof of delivery. Many arrears end here, especially where the employer has cash-flow trouble and wants to agree a schedule. If you agree instalments, write them down with dates.

Step 3: the labour office

The Labour Act provides for authorised labour officers and for labour complaints (sections 77 to 81 in the Act's arrangement). We could not open the text of those sections for this article, so we do not describe the procedure. In practice, contact the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment's office in your state, ask how they take complaints about unpaid wages, and bring your one-page claim and documents.

Where the unpaid amount means you were paid below the national minimum wage, and your employer is covered by the Act (25 or more employees), there is a separate offence. As Mondaq described it in August 2024, a non-compliant employer can be fined up to 5% of its monthly wage bill and must pay the arrears, with a further penalty, at not less than the CBN lending rate, on wages owed for each month the breach continues.

Step 4: going to court

Employment disputes in Nigeria are heard by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria. A claim for unpaid salary is usually brought there, and a lawyer who handles employment matters can tell you about filing, costs and how long it may take. Ask whether the claim can include interest and costs.

Lagos has a Small Claims Court for liquidated money demands of up to ₦5,000,000, under practice directions published by the Lagos MEPB (file dated December 2025), which require a letter of demand (Form SCA 1) and 14 days to comply before a claim is filed. Whether an unpaid salary claim belongs there or in the National Industrial Court is a legal question; ask a lawyer before choosing.

Practical points while you wait

  • Do not resign in anger before you have your documents; ask a lawyer how resigning affects your claim.
  • Keep working records: dates, hours, emails. They support the claim.
  • Avoid informal loans at high cost to cover the gap; see our guide to salary advances for what they cost.
  • If several colleagues are owed, a joint letter carries weight.

What to check first

  1. Your contract or written terms: pay amount and pay date.
  2. Your bank statements for the months in question.
  3. Whether your employer has 25 or more staff (for the minimum wage point).
  4. The labour office address for your state.

Related: overtime under the Labour Act and our payslip guide.

Where Pryme fits

Any Pryme customer can generate a verifiable statement through VerifyDoc.ai (receipts and statements), which a labour officer or lawyer can check is genuine and unaltered.
