Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Australia

How to register a company in Australia as a Nigerian

ASIC registers companies, not nationalities: you need a director who normally lives in Australia, director IDs first, two addresses and the ASIC fee.

The short answer

ASIC does not ask about nationality when you register an Australian proprietary company: a Nigerian citizen can own all the shares and be a director. What ASIC does require, as its pages stood in October 2026, is at least one director who normally lives in Australia, a director ID for every director before the company is registered, a registered office and principal place of business, and payment of the registration fee shown on ASIC's fee schedule.

Many Nigerians in Australia start trading as sole traders and only later ask whether they should form a company. Others arrive with a business already running in Lagos and want an Australian company alongside it. In both cases the process is run by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), and the rules turn on where your directors live and whether each one holds a director ID, not on your passport. This guide sets out the steps as ASIC describes them, the points where Nigerian founders most often get stuck, and what we could not confirm.

Who can own and direct an Australian company

ASIC's page on company officeholders, updated 2 October 2026, sets the basic rules for a proprietary (Pty Ltd) company:

  • A proprietary company "must have at least one director who normally lives in Australia". If any secretary is appointed, at least one secretary must also normally live in Australia.
  • Proprietary companies do not need a secretary at all.
  • Officeholders must be at least 18 years old.
  • Directors must apply for a director ID before they are appointed.
  • People who are bankrupt or under a personal insolvency agreement cannot act, and people recently convicted of fraud, dishonesty or certain duty offences are barred until five years after conviction, or five years after release if imprisoned.

Notice what is not on that list: citizenship, permanent residence or a particular visa. A Nigerian on a temporary visa who normally lives in Australia can, on ASIC's wording, be the resident director. A Nigerian who lives in Lagos can be a second director or the sole shareholder, but the company still needs one director who normally lives in Australia. Whether your visa lets you work in the business is a separate question for Home Affairs; we cover it in which Australian visas let a Nigerian run a business.

The registration steps ASIC sets out

ASIC's "steps to register a company" page (updated 2 October 2026) runs in this order:

  1. Decide the structure and name. You can choose a name, or let ASIC use the Australian Company Number (ACN) as the name, for example "ACN 123 456 789 Pty Ltd". A name can be reserved first with ASIC form 410.
  2. Choose the state or territory where the company will be registered.
  3. Decide how the company will be governed: the replaceable rules in the Corporations Act, a constitution, or both.
  4. Set the share structure and get each shareholder's written consent to become a member.
  5. Get director IDs. "Directors must apply for a director ID before a company is registered." See getting a director ID as a Nigerian director.
  6. Collect signed consents. The company must obtain and keep the written, signed consent of each person before they become a director or secretary.
  7. Give two addresses: a registered office address and a principal place of business address.
  8. Apply and pay. Most companies are registered through the Business Registration Service, which ASIC then processes. Some cases, such as hiding an officeholder's residential address, go another way.

When the company is registered, ASIC issues its ACN. That is a company number, not a tax number: the company still applies for its own Australian Business Number (ABN) and tax file number, and for GST if it must.

What it costs

ASIC charges a registration fee and then an annual company review fee every year the company exists. When we opened ASIC's registration page in October 2026, the fee figures were not displayed in the page text, and the "All fees" index (updated 1 July 2026) points to separate fee schedules and a fee indexation page. Rather than print a figure we could not read on ASIC's own page, we suggest you check the current corporations fee schedule on ASIC's site on the day you apply; the amount payable is also shown before you pay in the Business Registration Service.

Points that trip up Nigerian founders

No director living in Australia

If you are the only director and you are moving back to Nigeria, the company will fall short of ASIC's rule. Appoint a second director who normally lives in Australia before you leave, and make sure that person has a director ID and has signed a consent. Choose someone you trust: directors carry legal duties and ASIC lists obligations that apply to every officeholder.

Addresses

Both addresses must be real Australian places where the company can be reached. A home address is common for a new company, but it becomes part of the company record, and hiding a residential address requires ASIC's separate process rather than the standard online route.

Shareholders in Nigeria

A shareholder living in Nigeria still signs a consent to become a member. Plan for how they will sign and send it. If the Australian company later owns or invests in a Nigerian business, the Nigerian side has its own steps; see setting up a Nigerian subsidiary of an Australian company.

After registration: the first month

  • Apply for the company's ABN. business.gov.au says registering for an ABN with the Australian Business Register is free, and a successful online application gives the number straight away.
  • Register for GST if the company's GST turnover is or will be $75,000 or more (taxi and ride-sourcing businesses must register whatever their turnover), within 21 days of becoming aware you will pass the threshold.
  • Register any business name you will trade under that differs from the company name.
  • Open a business bank account; see opening a business bank account for a new Australian company.
  • Diary the annual review date and keep company details current with ASIC.

Where Pryme fits

If the new company buys from or sells to Nigeria, a Pryme Business Account can be opened from any country and holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local account details for each, so naira you collect stays in naira until you choose to Swap it. The business multicurrency account page explains how it works; outside Nigeria, Pryme's services are provided through regulated partners. You can open an account when you are ready.

Questions people ask

Can a Nigerian citizen own 100% of an Australian company?

Yes. ASIC's officeholder and registration pages set no nationality rule for shareholders. The company still needs at least one director who normally lives in Australia.

Can I register an Australian company from Nigeria?

You can do the paperwork from anywhere, but the company must have at least one director who normally lives in Australia, and every director needs a director ID before the company is registered.

How much does ASIC charge to register a Pty Ltd?

ASIC publishes the fee in its corporations fee schedule and shows it before you pay. Fees are reviewed each year, so check the schedule on the day you apply rather than relying on an old figure.

Is an ACN the same as an ABN?

No. The ACN is the company number ASIC issues on registration. The ABN is a separate business number from the Australian Business Register that the company applies for afterwards.
