Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Pryme receipts for freelancers billing Nigerian clients

How US freelancers can use Pryme's regular and verifiable receipts and statements, made with VerifyDoc.ai, for records with Nigerian clients.

The short answer

Any Pryme customer can generate a regular or a verifiable receipt or statement, and anyone who receives a verifiable one can check that it is genuine and unaltered, through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai. For a freelancer billing Nigerian clients, that gives both sides a payment record they can rely on, and gives you documents for your US tax records, which the IRS says to keep for at least three years in most cases.

Why receipts matter more with cross-border clients

When a client in Lagos pays a freelancer in Houston, the payment record lives in two banking systems, two currencies and often two email threads. Disputes are rarely about whether work was done; they are about which invoice a payment covered, whether a short payment was withholding tax or an error, and whether a transfer receipt a client forwards is real. Fake transfer receipts are a commonly reported problem in Nigeria, and many businesses there check a receipt against their account before releasing goods or work.

A receipt both sides can verify takes the argument out of those conversations.

Regular and verifiable: the difference

Regular receipt or statement
A normal record of a payment or of account activity, for your files or to send on.
Verifiable receipt or statement
A record the recipient can check is genuine and has not been altered since it was issued, using VerifyDoc.ai.

Use a regular receipt where nobody needs to check it, such as your own filing. Use a verifiable one where a third party will rely on it: a client's finance team, an auditor, a lender, a visa officer or your tax preparer. The Nigeria library's explainer on regular versus verifiable receipts goes into the choice.

Five ways freelancers use them

  1. Confirming a client's payment. When a Nigerian client pays your naira account details, send a verifiable receipt back. Their accounts team can file it against your invoice without asking you to resend a screenshot.
  2. Settling "we already paid" disputes. A verifiable statement for the period shows exactly what arrived and when.
  3. Withholding tax gaps. If a client deducted withholding tax, a statement showing the net amount received, alongside their credit note, explains the difference; see withholding tax on fees.
  4. Your US records. Statements of naira receipts help your preparer convert income to dollars and reconcile it with any 1099 forms.
  5. Proof of income for third parties, such as a landlord or lender who asks for evidence of freelance earnings.

What a receipt does not do

A verified receipt shows that the record is genuine and unaltered. It does not prove what the payment was for, that the work met the contract, or that the client agrees nothing more is owed. Keep those points in your invoice, contract and correspondence. Treat the receipt as evidence of the payment, and the paperwork around it as evidence of the deal.

Fitting receipts into US recordkeeping

The IRS says to keep records for three years in most cases, six years if you leave out income worth more than 25% of the gross income on your return, seven years for a bad debt deduction, and indefinitely if you do not file a return (page reviewed 30 June 2026). The IRS also reminds freelancers that income is reportable "whether or not you receive a Form 1099-K", so your own records are the primary evidence of what you earned.

A simple monthly routine (illustrative)

  • Issue each invoice with a number the client quotes as payment reference.
  • When a payment lands, generate a receipt and match it to the invoice number.
  • At month end, generate a statement for the account and file it with the month's invoices.
  • Note the dollar value of each naira receipt on the day it arrived, with the rate source.
  • At year end, give your preparer the twelve statements and the invoice list.

Our guide to recordkeeping for freelancers paid in naira and dollars covers the conversion step, and receipts and invoices clients in Nigeria trust covers what Nigerian finance teams expect to see.

When a client sends you a receipt

The same logic works in reverse. A Nigerian client may forward a transfer confirmation as proof they paid. A screenshot of a banking app is not proof that money reached you. Before you release final files or mark an invoice paid:

  • check your own account for the credit, not the client's screenshot;
  • if the client sends a verifiable receipt, verify it before relying on it;
  • if the amount is short, ask whether withholding tax or a transfer charge was deducted before treating it as a dispute.

The Nigeria library's guide to checking a receipt someone sent you explains what to look for.

Sharing receipts safely

Send only what the other party needs. A client needs the receipt for their payment, not your full monthly statement showing other clients' names. Where a statement is needed, generate it for the narrowest period that answers the question.

Where Pryme fits

Receipts and statements, regular and verifiable, are available to any Pryme customer from the app; see Pryme receipts. With a Pryme Business Account, Nigerian clients pay your naira account details directly, and you can raise invoices from the same place, so invoice, payment and receipt sit together. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's services are provided through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

What is a verifiable receipt on Pryme?

A receipt that anyone who receives it can check is genuine and unaltered, through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai.

Can my Nigerian client check a receipt I send?

Yes. Anyone who receives a verifiable receipt or statement can verify that it is genuine and has not been altered.

Does a verified receipt prove the client owes nothing more?

No. It shows the record is genuine; what the payment covered is shown by your invoice, contract and correspondence.

How long should I keep payment records for the IRS?

Three years in most cases, six if you omit more than 25% of gross income, seven for a bad debt deduction, and indefinitely if you do not file.
