Ten years, one trunk

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Freelancer receipts and invoices clients in Nigeria trust

What a Nigerian finance team needs on a US freelancer's invoice, why fake invoices make them cautious, and how verifiable receipts let them check.

The short answer

Nigerian clients pay invoices faster when the document carries everything their finance and tax teams check: your legal or business name, address, a unique number, dates, the service, the currency and amount, bank details that match the name, and room for withholding tax. A verifiable receipt or statement, such as one generated through Pryme with VerifyDoc.ai, adds a way for the client to confirm the document is genuine and unaltered without having to take your word for it.

A Lagos finance manager approving a payment to a freelancer in Texas is taking a risk. They cannot visit your office, the invoice arrives by email, and invoice fraud, where bank details on a real-looking invoice are swapped, is a known way for companies to lose money on cross-border payments. The FBI's IC3 says reports can, in some cases, help freeze stolen funds, but prevention is cheaper. Making your invoices easy to trust is part of getting paid on time.

What a Nigerian finance team looks for

ItemWhy it matters to the client
Your full legal name or registered business name, and US addressTheir records and any withholding tax receipt must name the right payee
Your email and phone, matching your contractSo they can confirm by a channel they already know
Unique invoice number and issue dateAudit trail; avoids paying twice
Client's legal name, address and, if they give it, their TINTheir tax team matches the invoice to their books
Clear description, period and deliverablesApprovers can tie it to the contract or purchase order
Currency stated once, amount in figures and wordsAvoids naira and dollar confusion
Bank details in the same name as the invoiceA name mismatch is a red flag that stops payment
Payment terms and due dateSets expectations, supports chasing later
Note on withholding taxNigerian payers deduct it on many service fees; say whether your fee is gross

On withholding tax: PwC's summary of Nigeria's 2024 deduction at source regulations lists 10% for non-residents on consultancy, technical, management and professional fees, as a final tax, and 5% for residents. Ask the client to send the deduction receipt; you need it on the US side. The detail is in Nigerian withholding tax on fees paid to a US freelancer.

Invoices, receipts and statements: which proves what

Invoice
A request for payment. Proves what you billed, not that anyone paid.
Receipt
Confirms you received a payment. Clients often need one for their own records and auditors.
Account statement
Shows money arriving in your account, with dates. Useful when a client says it has paid and you need to show it has, or has not, arrived.

Each of these can be forged or edited. A PDF can have a bank account number changed after it leaves you. That is why some Nigerian companies now ask for proof that the document came from the payee unaltered.

What a verifiable receipt adds

Pryme partners with VerifyDoc.ai. Any Pryme customer can generate a regular receipt or statement, or a verifiable one. Anyone holding a verifiable receipt or statement can verify that it is genuine and has not been altered since it was issued. For a Nigerian client that means:

  • Their finance team can check a receipt you send before filing it, rather than relying on the email it arrived in.
  • An auditor reviewing their payments can confirm the receipt for your fee is the one you issued.
  • If anyone alters the document, for example to change an amount, verification will not confirm it as the original.
  • You can send a verifiable statement when a client disputes whether a payment arrived.

We describe only what verification confirms. The steps and format the verifier sees are shown on the receipts page.

Habits that protect both sides from invoice fraud

  1. Put your bank details in the contract, not only on invoices, and tell the client they will never change by email alone.
  2. If your details do change, tell the client by phone or video call and in writing, and ask them to confirm with you before paying.
  3. Use the same email domain or address throughout; send invoices from one place.
  4. Number invoices in sequence and keep a register of what you issued.
  5. Ask clients to send a payment confirmation, such as the bank's transfer advice, and match it to the invoice.
  6. If something looks wrong, stop and verify before anyone pays. For what to do after a misdirected payment, see recovering a payment sent to the wrong account.

Worked example (illustration only)

A Houston designer invoices a Lagos agency $3,000 for brand work. The invoice states the fee is gross, that the agency may deduct Nigerian withholding tax, and gives a dollar account in the designer's name. The agency deducts 10%, pays $2,700, and sends a withholding receipt for $300. The designer sends a verifiable receipt for $2,700 received against a $3,000 invoice with $300 withheld. Both sides' records now agree, and the agency's auditor can verify the receipt.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account can be opened from the US and holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with account details in your name for each, so the name on your invoice matches the account the client pays. Invoicing creates numbered invoices, and verifiable receipts and statements come through VerifyDoc.ai. See also invoicing a Nigerian client in USD or naira.

Questions people ask

What should a US freelancer put on an invoice for a Nigerian company?

Your legal or business name and address, a unique number and date, the client's legal details, a clear description, one currency, bank details in the same name, payment terms, and a note on withholding tax.

How can a Nigerian client check my receipt is real?

If you send a verifiable receipt, such as one generated through Pryme with VerifyDoc.ai, the client can verify that it is genuine and unaltered.

Will a Nigerian company deduct tax from my invoice?

Often. PwC's summary of the 2024 regulations lists 10% for non-residents on professional and consultancy fees. Ask for the deduction receipt.

My client says my bank details changed. What do I do?

Tell them to stop and confirm with you by phone or video. Invoice fraud usually works by swapping bank details on a real-looking invoice.
