Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Port Harcourt private schools: winning and keeping parents

How Port Harcourt private schools win enrolment and keep fees coming in, from Rivers State approval to term-by-term payment and Spaces.

The short answer

A Port Harcourt private school wins and keeps parents by being visibly approved by the Rivers State Ministry of Education, reliable on safety and results, and realistic about how families pay. Joining Spaces lets the school reach parents who hold Loans on Spaces, which can only be spent with Spaces merchants, and schools are a supported sector in Port Harcourt.

Approval is now a selling point

In June 2026 the Rivers State Ministry of Education announced enforcement against unapproved private schools from 15 June, saying schools must be registered and approved, hold a valid approval certificate, settle outstanding annual renewal fees and meet minimum standards under the state's Private Schools Law. The ministry pointed proprietors to the State Quality Assurance Services office at GGSS Rumuokwuta for clarification.

For parents, that announcement made one question urgent: is this school approved? Answer it before they ask. Display your approval certificate at reception, mention it on admission forms and keep renewal payments up to date. A school that can show its papers is easier to choose than one that cannot. For the national process, see how to start a private school in Nigeria.

What Port Harcourt parents weigh

ConcernWhat reassures parents
SafetyControlled gate, visitor register, named pick-up persons
Getting thereA school bus on fixed routes, or a location close to home that avoids the worst traffic on Ikwerre Road and East-West Road
FloodingA clear plan for heavy-rain days: early closure, message to parents, supervised waiting
ResultsHonest external exam results and a visible reading programme
FeesClear total cost per term, including levies, books and uniforms

Parents in GRA, Woji and Peter Odili Road tend to compare schools on facilities and results. Parents in Rumuokoro, Rumuolumeni or Elelenwo often compare on fees, safety and distance. Know which parents you serve and speak to their concern first.

Admissions that do not stall

  1. Open admissions for September early in the year, when parents start planning, not in August.
  2. Hold open days on Saturdays, and offer a short assessment the same day.
  3. Ask current parents for referrals; in Port Harcourt, church and estate networks spread word of a school faster than any billboard.
  4. If you do use a billboard or large sign, get it permitted. The Rivers State Signage and Advertisement Agency licenses outdoor signage and has removed unregistered structures at the owner's cost.

Keeping parents after the first term

Winning a family is expensive; losing one at the end of the first term wastes all of it. Parents leave quietly when they feel unheard. A termly report that says something specific about the child, a class teacher who answers messages within a day and a fee notice sent weeks before resumption, not the week of it, keep more families than a new computer room. Track withdrawals each term and ask every departing parent why. The answers are usually fixable.

Fees: the cash-flow problem behind enrolment

Example only. A primary school in Rumuokwuta has 220 pupils at ₦150,000 a term. On resumption day, only 55% of fees are in. By mid-term, 80%. The last 20%, about ₦6.6 million, is chased for weeks, and some is never paid. Meanwhile teachers' salaries and the bus fuel are due every month.

Many schools respond by allowing instalments, which helps parents but leaves the school as the lender. Our guides on setting fees without losing parents and paying teachers in the long vacation cover the school side of the problem.

A proprietor's term checklist

Parents judge a Port Harcourt school as much on how it runs as on what it teaches. A short checklist each term keeps the basics visible:

  1. Approval certificate valid and displayed; annual renewal paid.
  2. Fee notice sent at least three weeks before resumption, with every levy listed.
  3. Bus routes confirmed, drivers' licences checked, parents told of pick-up times.
  4. Rainy-day plan circulated: who decides early closure, how parents are told, where children wait.
  5. Generator and water supply checked before resumption.
  6. Open day dates set for the next intake.

Reading the local market

Port Harcourt families move between schools more than proprietors sometimes realise, often after a change of job in the oil and gas sector, a move from Rumuokoro to an estate in Woji, or a fee increase announced without warning. Watch for those triggers. A family relocating within the city may choose the school nearest the new house, so stay visible in estates that are filling up.

Example only. A nursery and primary school in Eliozu gains 18 pupils in one year from a new estate nearby after holding two Saturday open days there. At ₦120,000 a term, those pupils add ₦6.48 million a year, before uniforms and books. See running a uniform and book shop for that side of income.

Where Pryme fits

Schools are a supported Spaces sector. A school that opens a Pryme Business Account can join Spaces and reach parents who hold Loans on Spaces. The parent's loan is from Solid Allianze MFB, the parent sees the amount, cost and repayment date in full and accepts before anything is drawn, and the school is paid for the fees rather than carrying the debt. Ask Pryme about merchant terms at /p/contact. Parents can also generate verifiable receipts in the Pryme app through the VerifyDoc.ai partnership, which helps when fees must be proved later.

Questions people ask

How do I know if a private school in Port Harcourt is approved?

Ask to see the school's Rivers State Ministry of Education approval certificate. The ministry's quality assurance office at GGSS Rumuokwuta can clarify a school's status.

How can my school get more pupils in Port Harcourt?

Show your approval, open admissions early, run Saturday open days, address safety and flooding plans clearly and encourage referrals from current parents.

Can parents pay school fees with Loans on Spaces in Port Harcourt?

Yes, at schools that are Spaces merchants. The parent accepts the loan agreement first and repays Solid Allianze MFB, not the school.

Do I need a permit for a school signboard in Rivers State?

Large outdoor signs and billboards are licensed by the Rivers State Signage and Advertisement Agency. Check with the agency before installing one.
