Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Private-label beauty products from a Nigerian maker: checks

What to verify about a Nigerian cosmetics manufacturer before putting your brand on its creams, oils or soaps, and the duties you take on abroad.

The short answer

Before selling a Nigerian maker's cosmetics under your own brand, check that the business is registered, that its factory has passed NAFDAC inspection, that its products are NAFDAC-registered, and that the formula meets both Nigerian limits (NAFDAC allows hydroquinone in cosmetics only up to 2%) and your own country's rules. Abroad, the brand owner usually carries the legal duties: in Great Britain a UK-based Responsible Person must hold a product information file and notify each product before sale.

Shea butter creams, black soap, hair oils and body butters made in Nigeria are attractive for a diaspora brand: good ingredients, lower production costs and a story customers like. In a private-label deal, a Nigerian manufacturer makes the product and you sell it under your name. That arrangement shifts much of the legal responsibility onto you as the brand owner in the country where you sell. The checks below protect both your customers and your business.

Check the business and the factory

  • Registration. Confirm the manufacturer is a registered business name or company and that the name on its invoices matches the register; see checking a supplier on the CAC register.
  • NAFDAC inspection. NAFDAC registration of locally made cosmetics follows an inspection of the premises and a GMP (good manufacturing practice) certificate. Ask to see it, with its date.
  • Product registration. Ask for the NAFDAC registration number of each product you will buy and check it on NAFDAC's own verification channels. A number for one product does not cover another formula.
  • Contract manufacturing. Where a maker produces for another brand owner, the registration file includes a contract manufacturing agreement. If your products are to be sold in Nigeria too, that agreement is part of the paperwork.
  • Standards. The Standards Organisation of Nigeria's MANCAP scheme requires manufactured products to meet Nigerian Industrial Standards, and covers chemical products. Ask whether the maker holds a MANCAP certificate.

Check the formula and the paperwork behind it

A brand is only as safe as its formula. Ask for the full ingredient list with percentages, under a confidentiality agreement if the maker wants one. Things to look for:

  • Skin-lightening agents. A NAFDAC state coordinator said in July 2025 that hydroquinone is approved in cosmetics "only" at 2%. Your own market may restrict it more tightly, so check its rules before accepting any product that contains it.
  • A certificate of analysis for each batch, showing brand, batch number, manufacturing and expiry dates, and the analyst's name and signature.
  • Stability and preservative information: how the product holds up over its shelf life, and how the expiry date was set.
  • Labels: brand name, batch number, net content, expiry date and storage instructions are standard requirements in NAFDAC's registration list.

What your country expects of you

Cosmetics rules abroad put duties on a named person, usually the brand owner or importer. A few examples, all from official pages read in October 2026:

MarketWho is responsibleBefore sale
Great BritainA Responsible Person with a UK address (not a PO box or mail forwarding); can be the importer or own-brand distributorProduct information file in English with a safety report by a qualified assessor, kept 10 years after the last batch; notify each product through the Submit Cosmetic Product Notification service
Ireland and the EUA Responsible Person in the EEA or Northern Ireland; an importer from outside the EEA can take the roleProduct information file, safety report and notification on the EU portal (CPNP)
United StatesThe responsible person named on the labelUnder MoCRA, manufacturing facilities register with the FDA (renewed every two years) and the responsible person lists each product and its ingredients

The point for a private-label seller is that the Nigerian maker's NAFDAC registration does not satisfy any of these. You, or a service you appoint, must build the safety file, and that needs the maker's cooperation and data. For more on selling online abroad, see online stores for Nigerian beauty brands and shea butter and black soap rules.

Getting it out of Nigeria

NAFDAC's export guideline lists a combined certificate of manufacture and free sale for registered cosmetics leaving Nigeria, with documents including the registration licence, the GMP certificate and a certificate of analysis. Ask the maker who handles this and build the time into your schedule; the steps are in NAFDAC export permits.

Steps before your first order

  1. Verify registration, the NAFDAC GMP certificate and each product number.
  2. Get the full formula, batch certificates and stability information.
  3. Have a qualified safety assessor in your market review the formula.
  4. Sign a supply agreement covering specification, batch records, recalls and confidentiality.
  5. Register or notify each product in your market before the first sale.
  6. Order a small first batch and keep retained samples of every batch.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account, opened from any country, lets you pay a Nigerian manufacturer in naira from money held in GBP, USD or EUR, with the rate and fee shown before you approve on Swap. A verifiable receipt or statement through VerifyDoc.ai gives each batch payment a record anyone can check, and the Compliance agent can keep the batch certificates and renewal dates in one place for you to review.

Questions people ask

Can I sell Nigerian-made creams under my own brand abroad?

Yes, but you usually become the legally responsible person for the product in your country, with a safety file and notification required before sale.

How do I know a Nigerian cosmetic is NAFDAC registered?

Ask for the NAFDAC number of each product and check it on NAFDAC's own verification channels. Each formula has its own number.

What is the hydroquinone limit in Nigeria?

A NAFDAC coordinator said in July 2025 that hydroquinone is approved in cosmetics only up to 2%. Your own country may restrict it further.

Does NAFDAC registration let me sell in the UK or US?

No. Great Britain, the EU and the US each have their own duties for the responsible person, which NAFDAC registration does not meet.
