Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Safety

Robbery and POS agents: safety rules for cash-out points

Worried about robbery at your POS stand? Practical rules on location, cash limits, visibility, closing time and what police have advised operators.

The short answer

Keep as little cash at the stand as your trade allows, keep it out of sight, work from a lit and busy spot with neighbours around, and vary when and how you move cash. Police in Delta State have advised POS operators to record and video customers asking for large sums and to send very large withdrawals to a bank or transfer. If you are robbed, do not resist; report to the police and your principal at once.

Why POS points are at risk

A cash-out point is a small, visible store of money, often run by one person, sometimes late into the evening. News reports have carried attacks on POS operators, and the risk is real. You cannot remove it, but you can make your point a poor target: less cash, less visible, harder to approach unseen, and with nothing to gain from following you home.

Location and set-up

  • Choose a spot that is lit, busy, and close to other traders who know you. Isolation helps robbers.
  • Under the CBN agent banking guidelines of October 2025, as summarised by Techpoint Africa, an agent location should be no smaller than a kiosk, and non-individual agents should operate only from registered premises. A proper kiosk or shop is also safer than a table by the road.
  • Keep your back to a wall and the counter between you and customers.
  • Have a phone with emergency and neighbour numbers saved, and agree a signal with nearby traders.
  • If you can afford it, a camera facing the counter deters some attackers and records the rest. Kwara Police told NAN in 2026 that investigations use CCTV where available.

Cash limits at the counter

The less cash you hold, the less a robber gains. Decide a counter limit and move anything above it to a locked box, a safe or the bank during the day. The CBN caps an agent's total daily cash-out at ₦1.2 million and each customer at ₦100,000 a day and ₦500,000 a week (per the October 2025 guidelines as summarised by Techpoint Africa). Those caps also limit how much you need to hold.

Worked example

Example only. An agent pays out about ₦400,000 on a busy day, in peaks of roughly ₦80,000 an hour. She keeps ₦100,000 at the counter, about one busy hour plus a margin, and ₦150,000 locked in a box behind the counter. When counter cash falls below ₦30,000 she tops up from the box. A robber at the counter would get at most ₦100,000, not the full ₦250,000 she started with.

Visibility and behaviour

  • Do not count large sums where customers or passers-by can see.
  • Keep notes in a drawer or pouch, not in a visible bowl or your hand.
  • Do not discuss your takings, float or where you bank with customers or on social media.
  • Watch for people who loiter, ask what time you close, or come to "check" without transacting.

What police have advised

In April 2024 the Delta State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Bright Edafe, advised POS operators to be cautious of customers asking for large sums, particularly where armed people accompany them; to record any customer requesting a large sum and those with them, including a video; and to tell people who want very large amounts to go to the bank or do a transfer. He also warned operators to avoid being "held for conspiracy". We could not find a national police guidance note for POS operators; ask your local division whether it has one.

Closing and moving cash

  1. Close before the street empties, not after.
  2. Count and pack cash inside, out of view, before you step out.
  3. Bank surplus cash during the day rather than carrying it all home at night. Our guide on taking daily sales to the bank safely covers routes and timing.
  4. Vary your time and route; do not walk the same way at the same minute each day.
  5. Do not carry the terminal and the cash in the same bag if you can avoid it.

If you are robbed

  • Do not resist. Your life is worth more than the float.
  • When safe, call the police and your principal. Ask the principal to block the terminal if it was taken; see POS terminal stolen or lost.
  • Write down descriptions, time, direction and vehicle details while fresh.
  • Ask neighbours with cameras to keep the footage.
  • Get a police report extract; you will need it for any insurance claim. See money insurance explained.

Working with your principal and association

Your principal, the bank or fintech that issued your terminal, has an interest in your safety and in knowing about attacks. Report incidents to it as well as to the police. Local POS operators' associations also share warnings about robbery patterns and suspicious customers in an area. NAN reported in July 2026 that a Kwara association of POS operators had called for better information-sharing between banks, fintechs and security agencies. Joining a local group gives you early warning and people to call.

Where Pryme fits

Banking cash during the day reduces what sits at the counter. Naira in a Pryme Business Account is held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit, and the app is protected by an authenticator and transaction PIN (security).

Questions people ask

How much cash should a POS agent keep at the stand?

As little as your trade needs: roughly one busy hour of payouts at the counter, with the rest locked away or banked. The worked example in this guide shows one way to set the limit.

What did police advise POS operators about large withdrawals?

Delta State Police advised operators in 2024 to record and video customers asking for large sums and those with them, and to send very large withdrawals to a bank or transfer.

What should I do if my POS stand is robbed?

Do not resist. Call the police and your principal, ask the principal to block any stolen terminal, write down what you saw and get a police report.

Where should I put my POS stand to be safe?

In a lit, busy spot near traders who know you, ideally a kiosk or shop. The CBN guidelines say an agent location should be no smaller than a kiosk.
