Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Life in Abuja

How an Abuja pharmacy builds a loyal neighbourhood following

Abuja pharmacies win on trust, reliable stock and proximity. A practical guide for community pharmacies in estates and satellite towns.

The short answer

A community pharmacy in Abuja wins regular customers by being the trusted, well-stocked option on its route, whether that is an estate in Gwarinpa, a junction in Kubwa or a road in Lugbe, and by helping patients manage repeat medicines. Joining Spaces adds customers who hold Loans on Spaces, credit they can only spend with Spaces merchants, which can help with prescriptions that fall before payday.

Why Abuja pharmacy trade is local

Most people in Abuja fill prescriptions close to home or on their commute, not near the hospital. Satellite towns and outer districts such as Kubwa, Lugbe, Nyanya, Gwarinpa and Dutse have large populations who travel into the city for work and want medicines on the way home. Inner districts such as Wuse, Garki and Maitama have higher footfall but more competition.

That means a pharmacy is competing for a small catchment. People pick the one they trust, that usually has what they need and that opens when they pass. Price matters, but a pharmacy that keeps sending patients elsewhere for out-of-stock items loses them for good.

Trust comes first

Patients in Abuja are wary of fake and substandard medicines, and many have heard warnings about unregistered outlets. Make your legitimacy easy to see:

  • Display your premises registration and the name of the superintendent pharmacist where customers can see them.
  • Have a pharmacist available at the times people actually come in, including early evenings.
  • Explain dosage and storage when handing over medicines, and write it on the pack for older patients.
  • Keep stock you can trace to licensed suppliers, and refuse to sell what you cannot vouch for.

The national guide on how a community pharmacy wins regular customers covers the counselling side in more depth. This article stays on what changes in Abuja.

Build around repeat medicines

The most valuable customer is the patient on a monthly medicine for blood pressure, diabetes or another long-term condition. In Abuja many of these patients commute long distances and do not want to queue. A simple refill list helps both sides.

  1. Ask regular patients if they want a refill reminder, and record their consent.
  2. Note the medicine, dose and usual refill date.
  3. Message a few days before the date and set the pack aside.
  4. Let the patient pay by transfer in advance and collect on the way home, or arrange delivery within a short radius.

Keep the list on paper or a secure device and share it with no one. Health information is sensitive personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

Worked example: a Kubwa pharmacy

Example only. A pharmacy on a busy Kubwa road has 60 patients on monthly medicines, spending an average of ₦22,000 each. That is ₦1,320,000 a month from regulars. The pharmacist notices that some patients delay refills in the last week of the month and run short.

After she joins Spaces, some of those patients may use a Loan on Spaces they were offered and accepted in their Pryme app to collect on time. The patient sees the amount, cost and repayment date before accepting; the pharmacy receives a Spaces payment. If refills stay on schedule for even ten more patients a month, that is ₦220,000 in sales the example pharmacy would otherwise lose to a late or skipped purchase.

Competing with hospital and chain pharmacies

Patients leaving a hospital or clinic in Garki, Wuse or Gwagwalada often fill a first prescription on site. Your opportunity is the second and every later fill, when the patient wants something near home. Ask new customers where they were treated and whether the medicine is ongoing; that one question tells you who might become a regular.

Larger pharmacy chains in Abuja's malls and main roads have wide ranges and long opening hours. A neighbourhood pharmacy competes on knowing the patient: remembering their medicine, warning them about interactions with something they bought last month, and having their pack ready. You can also stock what your area needs most. A pharmacy near family estates will sell more children's medicines and baby products; one near offices in Utako or Jabi will sell more pain relief, cold remedies and vitamins at lunchtime.

Avoid competing by selling prescription-only medicines without a prescription. It risks your licence and the trust you are trying to build.

Practical Abuja points

  • Cold chain. Insulin and some vaccines need reliable refrigeration. AEDC supply varies by feeder and band, and Band A feeders are meant to get at least 20 hours a day, but plan backup regardless.
  • Rainy season. Malaria and other rainy-season illnesses lift demand. NiMet expected above-normal rainfall for the FCT in 2026; stock antimalarials and test kits ahead of the peak.
  • Opening hours. Long commutes mean the busiest window is often after 6pm. A pharmacy that closes early hands those customers to the next one.

Where Pryme fits

Pharmacies are a supported Spaces sector, and Spaces operates in Abuja. A pharmacy with a Pryme Business Account can join Spaces and serve customers whose Loans on Spaces credit, lent by Solid Allianze MFB, can only be spent with Spaces merchants. Pryme does not set out merchant fees or settlement times here; ask through the contact page. The national guide on pay-later for pharmacies explains the approach, and the Business Account's Customer Support agent can draft refill reminders for you to approve.

Questions people ask

How do I get more customers for my pharmacy in Abuja?

Be the reliable option on a busy route: keep core medicines in stock, open in the evening when commuters pass, show your registration, and offer refill reminders to patients who agree to receive them.

Can patients pay for prescriptions on credit at my pharmacy?

If you join Spaces, customers who have accepted a Loan on Spaces can spend it with you. The credit is between them and Solid Allianze MFB, so you are not lending to patients yourself.

Do I need consent to send refill reminders?

Yes. Health details are sensitive personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Ask first, record the consent and keep the information secure.

When is pharmacy demand highest in Abuja?

Many pharmacies see more trade in the rainy season, when malaria cases rise, and in the evenings when commuters return to areas such as Kubwa, Lugbe and Nyanya.
