Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Paying off a mortgage early in Nigeria: penalties and process

Prepayment clauses, how to get a settlement figure, what it should include, and how to get your title documents back after paying off a Nigerian mortgage.

The short answer

You can usually pay off a Nigerian mortgage early, but whether you pay a charge depends on the prepayment clause in your offer letter: some lenders state no penalty, for example Sterling Bank's loans page says its HAFF facility has no prepayment penalty, while others charge a fee. Ask the lender in writing for a settlement figure valid to a set date, pay it, then collect a deed of release and your original title documents, and register the release where the mortgage was registered.

An inheritance, a bonus, the sale of another property or a lump sum from savings can make it possible to clear a mortgage years early. Done well, it saves a large amount of interest. Done badly, it can leave you without your title documents or with a release that was never registered. This guide walks through the clause to read, the figure to ask for and the paperwork that ends the mortgage. It is information, not legal advice.

Read the prepayment clause first

Your offer letter and mortgage deed set the rules. Look for words such as prepayment, early repayment, pre-liquidation or early termination. Common patterns are:

  • No charge: you may repay in part or in full at any time.
  • A charge as a percentage of the amount repaid early, sometimes only within the first few years.
  • Notice: you must tell the lender a set number of days before paying.
  • Minimum part-payment: partial prepayments must exceed a set amount.

Lenders do publish differing terms. As at October 2026, Sterling Bank's loans page says its HAFF facility carries no prepayment penalty. Access Bank's vehicle finance page says pre-liquidation is without penalty, which shows how such terms are typically stated even outside mortgages. Check your own documents, because the terms on your offer letter are what bind you.

Full or part prepayment

A part-payment reduces the balance on which interest is charged. Ask the lender whether it will shorten the remaining term (same monthly payment, fewer months) or cut the monthly payment (same end date). Shortening the term usually saves more interest. For the arithmetic of a full schedule, see mortgage repayment worked example.

Should you prepay at all?

Clearing a mortgage is not always the best use of a lump sum. Before you pay, weigh three things.

  • An emergency fund. Money put into a house is hard to get back quickly. Keep enough cash for several months of expenses first.
  • Dearer debts. A loan app, overdraft or credit card balance usually costs more than a mortgage; clearing those first saves more.
  • The rate. If your mortgage rate is high or variable, prepaying gives a certain return equal to the interest you avoid. If it is low and fixed, keeping some savings may serve you better.

Getting a settlement figure

  1. Write to the lender asking for a redemption or settlement statement for full repayment, quoting your loan account number.
  2. Ask for the figure to be valid to a named date and for a daily interest figure after that date.
  3. Ask for an itemised breakdown: outstanding principal, accrued interest, any prepayment charge, any arrears, and legal or release fees.
  4. Check the breakdown against your statements before paying.
  5. Pay by bank transfer to the lender's own account, never to a staff member's account, and keep the receipt.

Worked example (example only)

Suppose the outstanding principal is ₦18,000,000, the rate is 24% a year charged daily on a 365-day basis, 20 days have passed since the last instalment, and the offer letter has a 1% prepayment charge. All figures are examples, not any lender's terms.

Accrued interest
₦18,000,000 × 24% ÷ 365 × 20 = ₦236,712.33
Prepayment charge
1% × ₦18,000,000 = ₦180,000
Settlement figure
₦18,000,000 + ₦236,712.33 + ₦180,000 = ₦18,416,712.33

Each extra day before payment adds about ₦11,835.62 of interest in this example, which is why a figure valid to a date matters.

After you pay: release and title documents

Paying the balance does not by itself remove the mortgage from the record. Ask for:

  1. A letter confirming the loan is fully repaid and the account closed.
  2. A deed of release (also called a deed of discharge or reconveyance) signed by the lender.
  3. Return of your original title documents: certificate of occupancy or other title, deed of assignment, survey plan and any consent documents.
  4. Cancellation of any insurance assigned to the lender, so cover passes back to you.
  5. Confirmation that the lender has updated the credit bureaus; you can check your own report later.

Register the deed of release at the state land registry where the mortgage was registered. The Land Use Act requires the Governor's consent before a holder of a statutory right of occupancy mortgages or transfers it; your lawyer or the registry will tell you what is needed to note the release against the title. Keep certified copies.

What to check first

  • The prepayment clause and any notice period in your offer letter.
  • Whether a part-payment shortens the term or lowers the instalment.
  • That the settlement figure is itemised and dated.
  • Who will hold and return your title documents, and when.
  • Whether the release has been registered.

Where Pryme fits

If you are building a lump sum to prepay, a Naira Savings Box keeps it apart from daily money. When you pay the settlement, a verifiable receipt or statement made with VerifyDoc.ai gives you proof that anyone can check is genuine and unaltered (verifiable receipts). If you are behind rather than ahead, see getting out of debt.

Questions people ask

Can I pay off my mortgage early in Nigeria?

Usually yes. Your offer letter's prepayment clause sets whether there is a charge, a notice period or a minimum part-payment.

Is there a penalty for early mortgage repayment?

It depends on the lender. Some state none, such as Sterling Bank's HAFF page as at October 2026; others charge a percentage of the amount repaid early.

How do I get my C of O back after paying off my mortgage?

Ask the lender for a deed of release and the return of your original title documents, then register the release at the state land registry.

What is a mortgage settlement figure?

The total needed to clear the loan on a given date: principal, interest accrued to that date, any prepayment charge, arrears and fees.
