Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Arab Emirates

Paying a Nigerian university's fees from the UAE

Most Nigerian universities bill through the student portal and Remita. How to get the RRR, pay from the UAE and keep proof the school will accept.

The short answer

Most Nigerian universities bill fees through the student portal, which generates a Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) for the exact amount. You pay that RRR, and Remita issues a receipt immediately that the university can verify. From the UAE the dependable route is paying the RRR from a naira account by internet banking or a Nigerian card; whether UAE-issued cards work on Remita is not confirmed.

Whether you are paying for a younger sibling at UNILAG, a child at a federal university in the north, or a niece at a private university, the payment usually starts in the same place: the student's portal. This guide explains how the RRR system works, how to pay from the UAE without sending money through relatives, and what proof to keep.

How university fee payment works

Techeconomy's guide for Nigerians abroad explains that an RRR is generated from the school's portal or from remita.net, that payment can be made online by card, wallet, internet banking or USSD, or at a bank branch, and that Remita issues a receipt instantly which can be verified using the RRR. The NCC's own payment page, which uses Remita for government fees, confirms the channels: bank branch, Mastercard, Verve or Visa card, internet banking, wallet or mobile money, and a Remita profile.

  1. The student logs in to the portal and selects the fee: school fees, acceptance fee, hostel or departmental charges are often separate.
  2. The portal generates an invoice with an RRR for the exact amount. Ask the student to send you a screenshot or PDF of the invoice, not just the number.
  3. You pay the RRR through a Nigerian internet banking or app channel that supports Remita, or on remita.net.
  4. Remita issues a receipt, and the portal should update. The student prints the receipt and, if required, takes it to the bursary.

Paying from the UAE

Neither the NCC page nor Techeconomy says whether cards issued by UAE banks are accepted on Remita, and we could not confirm it in October 2026. The routes that do not depend on that answer:

RouteWhat you needWatch for
Internet banking or app from your Nigerian naira accountA Nigerian account with a Remita payment optionDaily transfer limits on the account
Nigerian debit card on remita.netA naira cardCard limits and one-time passwords to a Nigerian number
A relative pays at a bank branchCash or transfer in NigeriaAsk for the Remita receipt, not a bank teller slip alone
UAE card on remita.netUntestedNot confirmed; test with a small fee first

Proof of payment the university accepts

  • The Remita receipt showing the RRR, amount, payer and the university as beneficiary.
  • The portal invoice the RRR came from.
  • A screenshot of the portal after the payment updates.
  • Your bank's debit confirmation.

Keep all four together until the student has the year's registration confirmed. For what schools ask when a payment goes missing, see proving you paid school fees.

A worked example

Example only. Obinna, in Abu Dhabi, pays his brother's fees at a federal university. His brother logs in, generates invoices for school charges of ₦180,000 and hostel fees of ₦90,000, and sends both PDFs with their RRRs. Obinna pays each RRR from his Nigerian naira account through the bank's app, total ₦270,000 (₦180,000 + ₦90,000). Remita receipts arrive by email; his brother prints them, the portal updates the next day, and he completes course registration.

Avoiding the common mistakes

  • Paying an old RRR from a previous session; always generate a fresh invoice.
  • Paying the acceptance fee and school fees as one transfer when the portal billed them separately.
  • Paying to a departmental officer's personal account to "speed things up".
  • Leaving payment to the last day, when portals and banks are busiest.

When the portal does not update

  1. Check the RRR status on remita.net using the RRR.
  2. If Remita shows paid, send the receipt to the university's bursary or ICT unit through its official channel.
  3. If Remita shows unpaid but your bank debited you, contact your bank with the debit details.
  4. Do not pay the same RRR again until you know where the first payment is.

What to check first

  • The fee breakdown on the portal, so you pay the right items.
  • Payment deadlines; late registration charges may apply.
  • That your naira account has enough limit for the amount.
  • Who keeps the receipts, you or the student.

For other school payments see paying school fees in Nigeria from abroad and Dubai school fees compared with Nigerian boarding.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account holds naira alongside USD, GBP and EUR, so you can build up naira ahead of the fee deadline and Swap when you choose, with the rate and fee shown first. A verifiable statement through VerifyDoc.ai (receipts) can help if a bursary asks for evidence of a payment.

Questions people ask

How do I pay Nigerian university fees from Dubai?

Ask the student to generate the fee invoice and RRR on the university portal, then pay the RRR from a Nigerian naira account by internet banking or app, or on remita.net.

Can I pay Remita with a UAE bank card?

Not confirmed. Remita and the NCC list card payment, but neither says whether foreign cards work. Paying from a naira account is the dependable route.

What is an RRR?

A Remita Retrieval Reference generated for a specific payment. It ties your payment to the student's record and can be used to verify the receipt.

What proof of payment does a Nigerian university accept?

Usually the Remita receipt with the RRR, plus the portal invoice. Keep your bank's debit confirmation too.
