Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Verifiable receipts

How to prove you paid school fees or an acceptance fee

What a good school-fees receipt shows, how universities abroad use payment proof, and what to do when a school says it has no record.

The short answer

The best proof of a school-fees or acceptance-fee payment is a receipt from the school that names the student, the amount, what it covers and the session, backed by your own transfer record. Universities abroad can also count fees already paid: the UK deducts them from the funds you must show if they appear on your CAS, and IRCC accepts a tuition receipt.

Why payment proof matters

Parents and students in Nigeria pay fees in many ways: transfers to school accounts, payment portals, bank drafts and sometimes cash to a bursar. Problems arise when a payment is not credited to the right student, when a school changes its account, or when a part-payment is forgotten at the end of term. Payment proof also matters beyond the school gate:

  • Admission abroad. Fees already paid reduce what you must show for some visas.
  • Scholarships and sponsors. A sponsor may want proof their money was used for fees.
  • Employer reimbursement. Some employers refund staff school fees on presentation of receipts.
  • Instalment plans. Each instalment needs its own clear record.

What a good school-fees receipt shows

Student
Full name and admission or registration number
Payer
Name of the parent, guardian or sponsor who paid
Amount
In figures and words, with the currency
What it covers
Tuition, boarding, books, acceptance fee, development levy
Session and term
For example, 2026/2027 first term
School details
Name, address and the official who issued it
Payment reference
Transfer reference or portal transaction ID

If the school only gives a generic portal printout, ask for an official receipt as well. Keep both.

How universities and visa offices use it

United Kingdom

For a UK Student visa, you must show course fees for the first year as stated on your CAS. GOV.UK confirms that fees you have already paid count, so the amount you must show falls. The payment must be recorded on the CAS, so send your university the receipt and ask them to update it before you calculate. See the 28-day rule.

Canada

IRCC lists a receipt from your designated learning institution showing that you paid first-year tuition and housing among its examples of proof of financial support. Keep the receipt and the bank record of the transfer together.

Worked example: a fee that the school says it never received

Example figures only. Mrs Bello pays ₦850,000 for her son's first-term fees by transfer. Three weeks later the school sends a reminder that fees are outstanding.

  1. She sends the transfer record and the receipt the school issued, with the date and reference.
  2. The bursar finds the payment credited to another pupil with a similar surname.
  3. The school corrects its records and confirms in writing.
  4. Mrs Bello files the confirmation with the original receipt.

Without the receipt, she would have had to prove the money left her account, then prove what it was for. The receipt does both. Had she paid in cash, the school's receipt would have been her only evidence, which is why cash payments to a bursar should always be receipted on the spot.

When a sponsor or employer pays

If a relative, a scholarship body or an employer pays the fees directly, ask the school to issue the receipt in the student's name but to show the payer as well. The payer then has proof their money went to fees, and the family has proof the fees are settled. Keep a copy for the student's file, because the school may later ask the student, not the sponsor, to show it.

Acceptance fees for Nigerian universities

Admission into Nigerian universities and polytechnics usually involves an acceptance fee paid through the institution's portal. Print or save the portal receipt with the transaction reference as soon as payment succeeds, along with the bank or card record. If the portal shows the payment as pending or failed but money left your account, contact the institution's bursary with both records before paying again, and ask your bank to trace the transaction. Paying twice is a common and avoidable problem.

The same care applies to hostel fees, departmental dues and clearance payments. Each one may be checked at a later stage, sometimes years later at graduation or when requesting a transcript.

Tips for paying fees safely

  • Pay into the school's official account only; confirm any change of account directly with the school, not from a message.
  • Use the student's name and number in the transfer narration.
  • Get a receipt for every instalment, not only the last.
  • Keep records until the student has finished at the school.
  • If you pay from abroad, keep the transfer receipt and the conversion details.
  • Store receipts digitally as well as on paper, named by session and term.

Where Pryme fits

When you pay school fees from a Pryme account, you can generate a regular or a verifiable receipt for the transaction in the app. Through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai, the school, a sponsor or an employer can check that the receipt is genuine and unaltered. A receipt from Pryme proves the payment left your account; the school's own receipt still matters for what it covered. Schools are one of the sectors in Spaces, and families saving ahead can use a Savings Box; see saving for school fees and paying in instalments.

Questions people ask

How do I get proof of payment for school fees?

Ask the school for an official receipt naming the student, amount, purpose and session, and keep your transfer record with it.

Do paid tuition fees reduce UK visa funds?

Yes. GOV.UK counts fees already paid if they are shown on your CAS, so you show the balance still owed.

Can I use a tuition receipt for Canada study permit?

IRCC lists a receipt from your institution for first-year tuition and housing as an example of proof of financial support.

What if the school says my child's fees are not paid?

Send the transfer record and receipt with the date and reference, ask the bursar to trace it, and get written confirmation once found.
