Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Spain

Parcels from Nigeria to Spain: customs and IVA charges

Why a parcel from Lagos can arrive with a bill: import IVA on any value, the new EU flat duty on small parcels, handling fees and food that cannot come.

The short answer

Goods sent from Nigeria to Spain are liable to import IVA whatever their value, and since 1 July 2026 most e-commerce parcels worth €150 or less also pay an EU customs duty of €3 per item type, as Ireland's Revenue explains the EU change. Correos or the courier usually pays these at the border and collects them from you with its own handling fee before delivering.

A box of clothes, books or foodstuff from family in Lagos used to arrive in Spain without a charge more often than not. That is less and less the case. EU rules now tax imported goods from the first euro and add a flat duty on small parcels, and the company delivering the parcel will want the money before handing it over.

The three things you can be charged

ChargeHow it works
Import IVACharged on the customs value plus any duty, at the Spanish IVA rate for that product. There is no longer a low-value exemption for goods.
Customs dutyParcels of €150 or less: from 1 July 2026, €3 per item, counted per distinct product type, on most e-commerce packages. Above €150: duty at the product's tariff rate on goods plus transport, postage and insurance.
Handling feeCharged by Correos or the courier for making the customs declaration and advancing the tax. It is set by the carrier, not the state.

The duty rules are EU law and apply in Spain as in every member state. The description above follows Ireland's Revenue page on buying from outside the EU, published 1 July 2026, which sets out the new €3 duty and notes that the courier's administration fee is not part of the customs value. For the Spanish IVA rate and how the Agencia Tributaria applies relief to particular cases, check its own pages or ask the carrier.

IOSS: when the tax is paid at checkout

If you buy online from a seller registered for the EU's Import One-Stop Shop, the VAT is charged in the price at checkout and the parcel should not be taxed again on arrival. Most parcels sent privately from Nigeria, or bought from small Nigerian sellers, will not be under IOSS.

A worked example

Example only. A Nigerian online shop sends you three pairs of identical sandals and one dress, total value €90 including postage, not under IOSS. Under the post-July 2026 rule, there are two distinct product types, so duty would be 2 × €3 = €6. IVA would then be charged on €96 at the applicable Spanish rate. The carrier adds its handling fee on top. Your exact bill depends on the product types and the IVA rate, so treat this as an illustration of the arithmetic, not a quote.

Gifts between family members

A parcel sent privately by one person to another, with no payment, can qualify for relief from duty and tax up to a value limit, but only if it really is a gift and is declared as one. The limit and conditions are set in EU law and administered in Spain by the Agencia Tributaria; check the current figure there. Declaring a purchase as a gift to avoid tax is an offence, and carriers increasingly ask for proof.

Food from Nigeria: what cannot come

Regulation (EU) 2019/1793, consolidated on 18 February 2026, suspends the entry of dried beans from Nigeria because of pesticide residues (Annex IIa), and Article 11a(2) applies that suspension to food for private use too. So beans for ewa agoyin should not be in the box at all. Nigerian sesame seeds face extra checks for Salmonella, though small personal quantities are outside the regulation's scope (Article 1(3) excludes non-commercial consignments up to 2 kg for foods other than fresh produce). Meat, fish and dairy are subject to separate animal-health rules and are best left out.

More on food in bringing Nigerian food into Spain and EU checks on Nigerian sesame.

If you sell to Spanish customers from Nigeria

Nigerian small businesses shipping orders to buyers in Spain should tell customers up front that IVA, duty and a carrier fee may be collected on delivery, unless the shop is registered for IOSS and charges the tax at checkout. A customer who refuses a surprise bill sends the parcel back, and the seller usually loses the postage. Clear wording on the product page, an accurate commercial invoice on the parcel and a realistic value avoid most of that. Counting distinct product types also matters now: a parcel of six identical items attracts one €3 duty, a parcel of six different items attracts six.

What to check first

  1. Ask the sender to describe contents and value accurately on the customs declaration.
  2. For shop purchases, ask whether the seller uses IOSS.
  3. When the carrier's notice arrives, check the value used and the breakdown between duty, IVA and handling.
  4. Pay through the carrier's official channel only; scam messages about "customs fees" are common.
  5. If the charge looks wrong, ask the carrier how to dispute it before paying.

Where Pryme fits

If you are paying a Nigerian seller, a Pryme account lets you pay in naira from euros converted at a rate shown before you approve, and the Personal Assistant can keep track of what you have ordered and paid. A verifiable receipt from VerifyDoc.ai is useful evidence of value if the carrier asks.

Questions people ask

Do I pay IVA on a parcel from Nigeria to Spain?

Yes. Imported goods are liable to VAT from the first euro, so IVA is due on the value plus any duty, unless it was paid at checkout under IOSS.

What is the €3 customs duty on small parcels?

From 1 July 2026, most e-commerce parcels worth €150 or less from outside the EU pay €3 per item, counted per distinct product type, as Ireland's Revenue sets out the EU change.

Why does Correos charge a fee for a parcel from Nigeria?

The carrier makes the customs declaration and advances the tax, and charges a handling fee for doing so. The amount is set by the carrier.

Can family send me beans from Nigeria by post?

No. EU Regulation 2019/1793 suspends the entry of Nigerian dried beans, and the suspension also covers food for private use.
