Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Wrong transfer on Paga: how to reverse it

Paga cannot pull back a completed transfer on its own. What its terms say, the order to act in, and how the receiving bank fits into a recovery.

The short answer

Report a wrong Paga transfer at once to service@mypaga.com and +234 201 344 4300 with the five-character transaction ID; Paga's terms say claims must be made within 30 days. Paga's terms say it may intervene in disputes between users but is not obliged to, and merchant payments cannot be reversed once approved, so recovery usually depends on the receiving bank or wallet and the recipient agreeing to return the money.

What Paga's terms actually say

Paga's Nigeria terms do not set out a dedicated wrong-transfer procedure, but several clauses decide how your request is handled:

  • Section 18.1: report problematic transactions immediately.
  • Section 18.2: claims must be made within 30 days of payment.
  • Sections 5.3 and 18.7: each transaction has a unique five-character ID, which is needed for dispute resolution.
  • Section 18.5: in disputes between users, Paga may intervene but has no obligation to do so.
  • Sections 9.1 and 9.3: merchant payments cannot be reversed once approved; disputes with a merchant must be settled with the merchant.

In plain terms, Paga can help trace the money and contact the other side, but it cannot simply debit someone else's account because you made a mistake. The recipient's consent, or a lawful order, is normally needed.

Act in this order

  1. Screenshot the transaction showing the amount, time, recipient name, account or phone number, and the five-character transaction ID.
  2. Contact Paga immediately. Email service@mypaga.com and call +234 201 344 4300. State that the transfer was made in error and ask Paga to contact the receiving institution.
  3. If it went to a bank account, also tell the receiving bank. Visit or call the recipient's bank with your evidence; banks can contact their own customer and, in some cases, place a hold while they do.
  4. Do not send more money to anyone who contacts you promising to "help reverse" it for a fee.
  5. Get a ticket number and follow up on the same thread after 48 hours, which is the resolution time Paga's "Our Promise" section gives.
  6. Escalate if there is no progress: see our guide on Paga customer care and escalation.

Wallet-to-wallet versus wallet-to-bank

Where the money wentWho can contact the recipientPractical chances
Another Paga walletPaga, which holds both accountsBetter, because one company holds both records
A bank accountThe receiving bank, prompted by Paga and by youDepends on the bank acting quickly and the recipient's cooperation
A merchant or bill paymentThe merchantPaga says merchant payments cannot be reversed once approved; ask the merchant for a refund
An account whose holder spends it at onceThe receiving institutionLow without the holder's agreement; legal routes may be needed

If the recipient refuses to return it

Money received by mistake is not the recipient's to keep, but getting it back from an unwilling person can take formal steps. Options include a police report where you believe the recipient is acting dishonestly, a complaint to the CBN's consumer protection process if you think Paga or the receiving bank has not handled your request properly, and a civil claim. Our broader guide to recovering a wrong transfer in Nigeria covers each in more depth, and how to complain to CBN consumer protection explains the regulator route.

Worked example: how fast action changes the outcome

Illustrative only. Ada sends ₦85,000 to a mistyped account number at 10:05. She emails Paga with the transaction ID at 10:12 and visits the receiving bank's branch that afternoon. The bank contacts its customer, who has spent ₦20,000 and agrees to return the remaining ₦65,000 at once and the rest in two weeks. Had Ada waited a week, the whole ₦85,000 might have been spent, leaving only formal routes.

Prevent the next one

  • Use Paga's saved beneficiaries; its help centre has a Manage Beneficiaries section.
  • Read the name the app returns for the account number before you confirm.
  • Send a small test amount to a new recipient before a large payment.

What to write to Paga

Keep the email short and complete, and attach the evidence listed in our guide to payment dispute evidence. A version you can adapt:

Send the same facts to the receiving bank, and keep both replies together. If you later go to the CBN or a lawyer, a clear timeline of when you reported the error is the most useful thing you can show.

Above all, act on the day. The 30-day claim window in Paga's terms is the outer limit, not a target.

Where Pryme fits

When you send money with Pryme, the recipient's name is shown before you approve, and our Personal Assistant can prepare transfers for you to check, but nothing moves without your approval.

Questions people ask

Can Paga reverse a wrong transfer?

Paga can trace it and contact the other side, but its terms say it may intervene in disputes between users without an obligation to do so. Recovery usually needs the recipient's agreement.

How long do I have to report a wrong transfer on Paga?

Paga's terms say claims must be made within 30 days of payment, but report it immediately because money can be spent quickly.

I sent money to the wrong bank account from Paga, what do I do?

Contact Paga with the transaction ID, then contact the receiving bank with your evidence and ask them to reach their customer.

Can a merchant payment on Paga be reversed?

Paga's terms say merchant payments cannot be reversed once approved; ask the merchant for a refund.
