Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Safety

OTP by email, SMS or app: which banks offer which

Soft tokens, hardware tokens, email OTP and authenticator apps: what GTBank, UBA, Zenith, Keystone, Kuda and Grey say they offer.

The short answer

Most large Nigerian banks have moved to their own tokens rather than SMS alone: GTBank offers a *737*7# USSD soft token, UBA an in-app Secure Pass soft token and Zenith a hardware token, according to their pages in October 2026. Standard authenticator apps are more common in fintech apps; Grey, for example, lists authenticator-app two-factor authentication.

Why people want to move off SMS codes

An SMS one-time password (OTP) is only as safe as your SIM. In a SIM swap, a criminal persuades or bribes their way to a replacement SIM on your number, and from that moment your OTPs go to them. SMS codes also fail when the network is down, when you are abroad without roaming, or when a phone is stolen with the SIM inside. For the full comparison of the risks, see authenticator app vs SMS codes.

The alternatives in Nigeria fall into four groups: bank soft tokens inside the app or on USSD, hardware tokens, email codes, and standard authenticator apps. Which one you can use depends entirely on your bank or app.

The options, explained

Soft token (in-app)
A code or approval generated inside the bank’s own app, tied to your registered device. Not sent by SMS.
Soft token (USSD)
A code you request by dialling a USSD string from your registered number. It still depends on your SIM, but the code is not sent to you as a message that can be read later.
Hardware token
A small key-fob device that shows a code. Not tied to your phone or SIM at all.
Email OTP
A code sent to your email. Safer than SMS against SIM swap, but only as safe as your email account.
Authenticator app
Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy and similar. Codes are made on your phone; nothing is sent.

What some Nigerian banks and apps say on their own pages

This is not a complete list. It records what each institution’s own page said when we read it in October 2026. Banks change their security set-up, so check your app’s security settings or help centre for the current position.

InstitutionWhat its page describesMethod type
GTBank*737*7# generates a soft token, valid for 120 seconds, for transactions up to ₦500,000 on Internet Banking, the mobile app and GTWorld; above that up to ₦1,000,000 on USSD needs the hardware tokenUSSD soft token; hardware token
UBASecure Pass soft token activated in the app ("Activate Soft Token", with a token identity and passcode)In-app soft token
Zenith BankFAQ lists a hardware token at ₦3,500 (page undated; check the current price)Hardware token
Keystone BankLogging in on a new device needs username and password, PIN, and an OTP sent by both SMS and emailSMS and email OTP
KudaAlerts go by push notification and email, never SMS; new devices go into a 72-hour Safety Mode with OTP and lower limitsPush and email; in-app
GreyHelp page lists authenticator-app two-factor authentication and a PIN for each transactionAuthenticator app

Note the pattern. Most large Nigerian banks have moved towards their own soft tokens rather than standard authenticator apps, so you usually cannot plug Google Authenticator into a bank app. Standard authenticator support is more common in fintech and international apps.

Which is safest?

Roughly, from strongest to weakest against the most common Nigerian frauds:

  1. Authenticator app or in-app soft token on a phone with a strong screen lock. Not affected by SIM swap.
  2. Hardware token. Not affected by SIM swap or phone theft, but can be lost and costs money.
  3. Email OTP, if your email has its own strong password and two-step verification. If your email is weak, this is weaker than it looks. See your email is the master key.
  4. USSD soft token. Better than an SMS that sits in your inbox, but still tied to your SIM.
  5. SMS OTP. The most exposed to SIM swap.

Steps to move off SMS where you can

  1. Open each bank or fintech app and look under Security or Settings for "token", "soft token", "authenticator" or "two-factor".
  2. Activate the in-app token or authenticator option if offered.
  3. If your bank offers only SMS, protect the SIM: set a SIM PIN, and ask your network what extra checks it applies before a SIM swap. See SIM PIN lock to stop SIM swap.
  4. Turn on email alerts as well as SMS, so you still see transactions if your SIM is compromised; see turning on both alerts.
  5. For accounts that support it (email, social media, fintech apps), set up an authenticator app; see setting up an authenticator app.

If you travel or live abroad

SMS OTPs are a common reason Nigerians abroad get stuck: the Nigerian line is off, roaming is expensive, or the code simply does not arrive. In-app soft tokens and authenticator apps work over Wi-Fi without the Nigerian SIM, which makes them far more practical outside the country. Before you travel, activate whatever in-app or authenticator option your bank offers, test it once at home, and keep your Nigerian SIM safe rather than letting the line lapse, since it may still be the recovery route for your accounts.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme uses an authenticator app for sign-in approval, not SMS codes, together with a transaction PIN. Details are on the security page.

Questions people ask

Which Nigerian banks use soft token?

Several, including GTBank (*737*7# USSD soft token) and UBA (Secure Pass in-app soft token), according to their own pages in October 2026. Check your bank’s app security settings.

Can I use Google Authenticator for my Nigerian bank?

Usually not; most large Nigerian banks use their own in-app or USSD tokens. Some fintech and international apps support standard authenticator apps.

Is email OTP safer than SMS?

Against SIM swap, yes, but only if your email has a unique password and two-step verification. Otherwise it can be weaker.

How much is a Zenith hardware token?

Zenith’s FAQ lists ₦3,500, but the page is undated. Confirm the current price with the bank.
