Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

'Your package is on hold' texts: the delivery fee scam

How fake DHL or NIPOST texts lead to card-harvesting pages, what DHL says about genuine messages, and how to check a tracking number yourself.

The short answer

A text saying your package is on hold until you pay a small fee is usually a phishing message: the link opens a copy of a courier's site built to collect your card number, expiry date, CVV and OTP. DHL says the only payments it requests by email or SMS are customs duties and taxes, tied to a real 10-digit tracking number, and that a number which returns no tracking result was not sent by DHL.

How the message is built

The text arrives from a short name such as 'Delivery', 'DHL' or 'NIPOST', or from an unfamiliar number. It says a parcel could not be delivered because of an unpaid fee, a wrong address or 'customs clearance', and gives a link. The amount is small on purpose, often a few hundred or a couple of thousand naira, so you pay without thinking. The link is frequently shortened, so you cannot see where it goes.

DHL's own fraud awareness page lists the signs it sees in fake SMS: shortened links such as bit.ly that hide the real destination, a generic sender name like 'Delivery', and numbers with country prefixes outside the expected area. It also warns that fake emails may use an urgent tone, poor grammar, unfamiliar web addresses or attachments.

Why so many people fall for it

The timing helps the fraudster. Many Nigerians now order from abroad, buy from Instagram vendors or wait on documents sent by relatives, so a delivery text is often plausible. The messages are sent in bulk to thousands of numbers, and only a small share need to be expecting a parcel for the scheme to pay. The fee is pitched low enough that it feels safer to pay than to lose the parcel, and the deadline ('within 24 hours or the item is returned') is there to stop you checking. None of these details depends on knowing anything about you, which is why the same text reaches people who have ordered nothing.

What the fake page does with your card

The link opens a page that looks like the courier's site, with its logo, colours and a fake tracking timeline. It asks for your name and address 'to reschedule', then the fee. The payment form collects:

  • the full card number,
  • the expiry date and the three-digit CVV on the back,
  • sometimes your card PIN, which no online card payment needs,
  • and then the OTP your bank sends.

The small fee is never the point. With the card number, expiry date and CVV, the fraudster can attempt larger online payments elsewhere; with the OTP, they can approve one in real time while you think you are paying ₦1,500. Some pages also ask you to install an app 'to track your parcel', which can be malware. Fidelity Bank warned in July 2026 about remote access apps that steal credentials and intercept OTPs. See why scammers want your expiry date and CVV.

How to check a real tracking number

  1. Do not tap the link. Open your browser and type the courier's address yourself, or use the courier's official app.
  2. Find the tracking number in your original order confirmation or shipping receipt, not in the text.
  3. Enter it in the courier's own tracking tool. DHL says genuine duty messages carry a 10-digit tracking number, and 'if no tracking results are returned, it is not a valid tracking number and the email was not sent by DHL.'
  4. If tracking shows a genuine duty or tax charge, pay only through the courier's official site or office. DHL's page also says an OTP is sent to the registered contact before a duty payment is processed in the country it covers.
  5. For post sent through NIPOST, ask at a post office or through NIPOST's official channels; do not rely on a link in an SMS.
  6. If the seller is an online shop, ask the seller which courier they used and for the tracking number.

Signs that a page is fake

  • The web address is not the courier's own domain. DHL says it never links to sites other than its own, such as dhl.com and its country sites.
  • The page asks for your card PIN.
  • The fee is for 'redelivery' or 'address confirmation' with no tracking number you recognise.
  • DHL says genuine email never comes from free services such as Gmail or Yahoo, and that it does not arrange payments between buyers and sellers on marketplaces.

If you have already entered your card details

  1. Call your bank on the number on your card and block the card at once; most banking apps also let you freeze a card.
  2. Watch for OTPs you did not request and do not share them.
  3. Ask the bank about disputing any payment you did not authorise; keep screenshots of the text and the page.
  4. Report the message. DHL asks for suspicious messages to be reported to phishing@dhl.com. In Nigeria you can also report to the Nigeria Police National Cybercrime Centre e-reporting portal.
  5. If you installed an app from the link, disconnect from the internet, uninstall it and tell your bank.

For other link-based tricks, read phishing texts and emails in Nigeria and giveaway delivery fee scams.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme accounts use an authenticator app rather than SMS codes, with a transaction PIN for payments, so a phishing page has no SMS code to ask for. You should still never type your PIN into a website. See Pryme security.

Questions people ask

Is the DHL text asking me to pay a fee real?

Check the tracking number yourself on DHL's own site. DHL says the only payments it requests by SMS or email are customs duties and taxes, linked to a valid 10-digit tracking number. If tracking returns nothing, the message did not come from DHL.

I paid the delivery fee from a text, what now?

Block your card through your bank immediately, watch for unexpected OTPs, ask the bank to dispute any payment you did not make, and report the message to the courier and the police cybercrime portal.

Does NIPOST send SMS asking for payment?

We could not confirm NIPOST's SMS policy from an official page. Treat any payment link in a text as suspect and confirm at a post office or through NIPOST's official channels.

How do I know a courier website is real?

Type the address yourself rather than following a link, check the domain is the courier's own, and never enter your card PIN on any website.
