Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Password managers for Nigerians: which to use and how

How password managers work, the free options already on your phone, and step-by-step set-up on Android and iPhone, so you stop reusing passwords.

The short answer

A password manager is an encrypted vault that remembers a different strong password for every account, so one breach cannot open the rest. Most Nigerians already have a free one: Google Password Manager on Android and Chrome, or iCloud Keychain on iPhone. Secure the account behind it with two-step verification, and never store PINs or OTPs in it.

The problem a password manager solves

Most people have dozens of accounts: email, two or three banks, a fintech app or two, social media, betting or shopping sites, school portals, work tools. Nobody can remember dozens of strong, different passwords, so people do one of three things: use one password everywhere, use small variations of one password ("Lagos2024", "Lagos2024!"), or write them in the phone’s notes app. All three mean that when one site is breached, criminals can try that password on your email and your bank.

A password manager is an encrypted vault that remembers every password for you. You remember one strong master password (or use your phone’s screen lock), and the manager fills in the rest. It can also create long random passwords for each site, so no two are the same.

How a password manager works

  • Encrypted vault. Your passwords are stored encrypted. Google, for example, says passwords and passkeys in Google Password Manager are "stored behind Google’s built-in security with encryption".
  • One way in. You open the vault with a master password, your Google or Apple account, or your phone’s biometrics.
  • Autofill. When you open a login page or app, the manager offers the saved password. Because it matches the real web address, it will not fill a look-alike phishing site, which is a quiet extra protection.
  • Generator. When you create or change a password, it suggests a long random one and saves it.
  • Breach warnings. Many managers warn you when a saved password appears in a known leak. Google says its Password Manager can notify you when saved passwords have been published online.

Free options most Nigerians already have

OptionBest forPoints to know
Google Password ManagerAndroid users and anyone using ChromeBuilt in; can save to your Google Account (syncs) or the device only; review at passwords.google.com
iCloud Keychain (Apple Passwords)iPhone, iPad and Mac usersBuilt in; with Stolen Device Protection on, Apple requires Face ID or Touch ID to use Keychain passwords away from familiar places
Independent managers (for example Bitwarden)People who mix Android, iPhone and Windows, or use several browsersSeparate master password; works across platforms; check the current free plan on the provider’s own site

There is no single best choice. If all your devices are Android or all Apple, the built-in option is simplest and free. If you switch between platforms, an independent manager avoids being tied to one. The important step is using any of them instead of reusing passwords. For the specific question of browser vaults, see browser-saved passwords for internet banking.

Setting one up

On Android (Google Password Manager)

  1. Make sure you are signed in to your Google Account on the phone and that the account has 2-Step Verification on.
  2. In your phone’s settings, look for "Passwords", "Autofill" or "Password Manager" and choose Google as the autofill service.
  3. Open passwords.google.com in a browser to see what is already saved. Delete anything outdated.
  4. Look in the Password Manager settings for on-device encryption and a Password Manager PIN, which Google’s help page links to as extra protection.
  5. Each time you log in to a site, accept the offer to save the password.

On iPhone (iCloud Keychain)

  1. Make sure your Apple Account has two-factor authentication on.
  2. Open your iPhone’s Passwords settings and turn on autofill and iCloud Keychain sync.
  3. Turn on Stolen Device Protection under Settings > Face ID & Passcode; see iPhone settings for banking apps.
  4. Save passwords as you log in to sites and apps.

Moving from reused passwords

Do not try to change everything in one evening. Work in this order over a week: email first, then banks and fintech apps, then anything holding a card, then social media, then the rest. For each one, use the generator to create a new password and let the manager save it.

What a password manager should not hold

  • Your bank transaction PIN and card PIN. Keep these in your head only.
  • OTPs and token codes; these are single-use and should never be stored.
  • The master password itself. Write it on paper kept at home, or memorise a long passphrase.

What to check first

  1. Pick a manager that fits your devices.
  2. Secure the account or master password behind it, with two-step verification; see your email is the master key.
  3. Change your email and bank passwords to generated ones.
  4. Run a breach check; see how to check if your password was leaked.

Where Pryme fits

A password manager can hold your Pryme login details, while Pryme’s authenticator-app approval and transaction PIN stay separate, as they should. See the security page.

Questions people ask

What is the best free password manager in Nigeria?

For most people, the one built into their phone: Google Password Manager on Android or iCloud Keychain on iPhone. If you mix platforms, an independent manager such as Bitwarden may suit you; check its current free plan.

Is it safe to keep my passwords in a password manager?

Yes, provided the account or master password protecting it is strong and has two-step verification. It is far safer than reusing passwords or keeping them in notes.

Should I save my bank PIN in a password manager?

No. Keep your transaction and card PINs in your head only, and never store OTPs.

How do I find my saved passwords on Android?

Open passwords.google.com in a browser, or look in your phone’s settings for Passwords or Password Manager.
