Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada

Does OHIP cover you while visiting Nigeria?

What OHIP pays for an emergency in Nigeria, the daily limits, what it never pays, how to claim and why travel insurance still matters for the trip home.

The short answer

Only partly. For a sudden emergency abroad, OHIP pays at most $400 a day for inpatient care in intensive or operating-room settings, $200 a day for lower levels of hospital care and $50 a day for emergency outpatient care, plus doctors' fees up to Ontario rates (Ontario.ca, updated 16 January 2026). It does not pay for a flight home or transfer to an Ontario hospital, so Ontario itself calls travel medical insurance essential.

Many Ontario residents assume their health card travels with them. It does, but only as a small contribution to an emergency bill. In Lagos or Abuja, where private hospitals typically ask for a deposit before admitting a patient, that gap is the whole problem.

What OHIP pays outside Canada

Ontario's page on OHIP coverage while outside Canada (updated 16 January 2026) sets these limits under its Out of Country Travellers Program:

ServiceWhat OHIP pays
Emergency outpatient care, including emergency roomThe lesser of $50 a day or the hospital's bill
Inpatient care in an operating room, coronary care, intensive care, neonatal or paediatric special care unitUp to $400 a day
Inpatient care at lower levelsUp to $200 a day
Doctors' servicesThe lesser of the doctor's bill or Ontario Schedule of Benefits rates

To qualify, the care must be medically necessary, at a licensed facility, and for a condition that is acute, unexpected, not pre-existing and needs immediate treatment.

What OHIP does not pay

  • transport, lodging and food, unless part of insured hospital services
  • uninsured services
  • transfer back to Ontario for ongoing care after a hospitalisation abroad
  • work-related injuries covered by WSIB

Planned treatment abroad needs written prior approval from the Ministry of Health, applied for by your Ontario doctor, otherwise you pay all costs. The exception is an emergency with immediate risk of death or irreversible tissue damage.

How it compares with a real bill

An example, to show the scale. The figures are illustrative.

Five days in a private hospital in Lagos after an emergencyExample (CAD)
Two days intensive care at 1,500 a day3,000
Three days on a ward at 600 a day1,800
Emergency room visit300
Total bill5,100
OHIP: intensive care 2 x 400800
OHIP: ward 3 x 200600
OHIP: emergency room, capped at 5050
OHIP total1,450
You pay before any doctors' fees3,650

Check: 3,000 + 1,800 + 300 = 5,100; 800 + 600 + 50 = 1,450; 5,100 - 1,450 = 3,650. OHIP also pays only after you claim, so you pay the hospital first.

Why travel insurance still matters

Ontario's page calls it essential to buy travel medical insurance covering transport home if you are hospitalised abroad, because OHIP does not pay for transfers. Canada's Nigeria travel advice (updated 21 October 2026) says facilities usually require an upfront cash deposit, a payment guarantee or proof of insurance, and recommends cover for medical evacuation and hospital stays. Many workplace plans include out-of-country emergency cover; check the limit, the trip-length cap and whether it covers your children.

How to claim from OHIP

  1. Complete the Out of Province/Country Claims Submission form.
  2. Attach a detailed statement in English or French: admission and discharge dates, services, diagnosis, tests, treatment, itemised fees, your health card number and Ontario name and address.
  3. Attach original receipts from the hospital and from any doctor who billed separately.
  4. Email to CSBOttawa@ontario.ca or post to the Out of Country Travellers Program, 347 Preston Street, 4th floor, Ottawa, ON K1S 3J4.

Before you travel: a short checklist

  1. Check your health card is valid and will not expire during the trip.
  2. Read your workplace plan's out-of-country section: the maximum, how many days a trip can last and whether it covers your spouse and children.
  3. If you have no workplace cover, or it is too short, buy a travel medical policy for the full trip, including evacuation or transport home.
  4. If anyone has a long-term condition, check how the policy treats it before you buy.
  5. Save the insurer's 24-hour assistance number in your phone and give it to a relative in Nigeria.
  6. Agree with family who can pay a hospital deposit at short notice, and how.

The last point matters more than people expect. If a hospital in Nigeria asks for a deposit at midnight, the assistance line may take hours to issue a guarantee. Having a plan for the first payment, and keeping the receipt, keeps care moving while the insurer and OHIP sort out who pays what.

Long stays in Nigeria

If you will be outside Canada for more than 7 months in any 12-month period, you can keep OHIP for up to 2 years if Ontario is your primary home and you were in Ontario at least 153 days in each of the two 12-month periods before leaving. Bring your health card and proof of residency to ServiceOntario before you go. For newcomers' first months, see the OHIP waiting period.

Where Pryme fits

With a Pryme account you can hold naira for a deposit and send it to a hospital's account quickly; every payment has a receipt for your OHIP or insurance claim. See also sending money for a family emergency.

Questions people ask

Does OHIP work in Nigeria?

For emergencies only, and with limits: up to $400 a day for intensive inpatient care, $200 for lower-level inpatient care and $50 a day outpatient (updated 16 January 2026).

Will OHIP pay to fly me back to Ontario?

No. Ontario says OHIP does not pay for transfer back to an Ontario hospital; buy travel insurance that covers it.

How do I claim OHIP for a hospital bill in Nigeria?

Send the Out of Province/Country claims form, an itemised statement in English and original receipts to the Out of Country Travellers Program.

Can I lose OHIP if I stay in Nigeria a long time?

Absences over 7 months in 12 need the extended-absence rules: up to 2 years if Ontario is your home and you met the 153-day test.
