Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

NXP form: what exporters must file before shipping

Form NXP is the CBN export form your bank processes before goods ship. Who files it, who certifies it, and why it decides your proceeds trail.

The short answer

Form NXP is the Central Bank of Nigeria export form that records a shipment of goods leaving Nigeria; the exporter applies through an authorised dealer bank, which processes it, and it is later certified by the bank, the Nigeria Customs Service and the pre-shipment inspection agent. It is the document that ties the shipment to the money that must come back, which CBN rules set at 180 days for non-oil exports.

Exporters hear about "the NXP" from their bank, their clearing agent and NEPC, often in the same week. It is a single form, but it touches every stage of an export: before the goods move, at the port, and after the buyer pays. This guide explains what the form is, who does what with it, and why getting it right protects your money.

What Form NXP is

Form NXP is the CBN's export declaration for goods. It is processed through an authorised dealer bank, meaning a bank licensed to deal in foreign exchange, and it gives the shipment a reference that follows it through Customs and back to the bank when payment arrives. NEPC's Export Expansion Grant page describes the finished document as "Forms NXP certified by the processing bank, the Nigeria Customs Service and the Pre-Shipment Inspection Agent".

That description shows the three parties involved after you apply:

PartyRole with the NXP
Your bank (processing bank)Receives your application, processes the form and certifies it; later matches incoming proceeds to it
Pre-shipment inspection agentInspects the goods and certifies the form; issues the clean certificate of inspection
Nigeria Customs ServiceCertifies the form at export, alongside the Single Goods Declaration
You, the exporterApply through the bank with the right documents, ship the goods described, and make sure proceeds return in time

Why it must come before the shipment

The form describes what you are exporting, to whom and at what value. Inspection, Customs endorsement and the bank's later matching of proceeds all refer back to it. If goods move before the NXP is in place, there is nothing for the inspection agent and Customs to certify, and your bank has no record against which to receive the payment as export proceeds. Speak to your bank's trade desk when you agree the sale, not when the truck is loading.

What the bank will usually ask for

Banks set their own checklists, so ask yours for the current list. Expect it to cover:

  • Your company documents and current NEPC exporter registration certificate (see renewal).
  • A proforma or commercial invoice showing the buyer, goods, quantity, value and terms.
  • The sales contract or purchase order.
  • Details of the product, including its HS code.
  • Any regulator's permit the product needs.

Under a CBN circular of 8 January 2025, described by Stren & Blan Partners, proceeds of non-oil exports must be repatriated within 180 days of the bill of lading date, and oil exports within 90 days. The same circular suspended approvals for extending those deadlines, and authorised dealers face sanctions for accepting proceeds after the deadline. Your bank uses the NXP reference to recognise the incoming money as proceeds of that shipment.

Our guide to the CBN repatriation rules covers the timeline in full, and Form NXP and export proceeds in plain words gives a shorter overview.

Worked example

Example only. An exporter of sesame seed ships on 10 March, the bill of lading date. Counting 180 days from that date, the last day for proceeds is 6 September (21 days left in March, then 30, 31, 30, 31 and 31 for April to August makes 174, plus 6 days of September). He asks the buyer to pay into the domiciliary account the NXP was processed through, quoting the NXP reference and invoice number, so the bank can match it without query.

Why the NXP matters later

  • It is the first document NEPC lists for an Export Expansion Grant claim, and must carry all three certifications.
  • It is the record your bank and the CBN use to see whether proceeds came back.
  • Mismatches between the NXP, invoice and goods declaration are a common source of queries.

Steps for a first shipment

  1. Agree the sale and issue a proforma invoice.
  2. Confirm the product is not on the export prohibition list and has any permit it needs.
  3. Apply for the NXP through your bank's trade desk with the documents it lists.
  4. Book the pre-shipment inspection and obtain the clean certificate of inspection.
  5. Clear through Customs, which endorses the goods declaration and certifies the NXP.
  6. Instruct the buyer to pay into the account linked to the NXP, quoting its reference.
  7. Collect the fully certified NXP and keep it with the bill of lading and invoice.

What to check first

  • Does your bank's trade desk handle NXPs for your product?
  • Do the buyer's name and value on the NXP match the contract exactly?
  • Have you diarised the repatriation deadline from the bill of lading date?

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not process Form NXP; that stays with your authorised dealer bank. Alongside it, a Pryme Business Account can hold USD, GBP and EUR, and the Compliance agent can keep a checklist of documents per shipment for a person to approve.

Questions people ask

What is Form NXP in Nigeria?

The CBN export form for goods, processed through an authorised dealer bank and certified by the bank, the Nigeria Customs Service and the pre-shipment inspection agent.

Who files Form NXP, the exporter or the bank?

The exporter applies through its bank, which processes and certifies the form. Ask your bank's trade desk for its current document list.

How long do I have to repatriate proceeds after NXP?

Under the CBN circular of 8 January 2025, 180 days from the bill of lading date for non-oil exports and 90 days for oil exports, with extensions suspended.

Do I need NXP for EEG?

Yes. NEPC lists Forms NXP certified by the bank, Customs and the inspection agent as the first document for an Export Expansion Grant claim.
