Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Export Expansion Grant (EEG): how it works

Who qualifies for the Export Expansion Grant, how its Export Credit Certificates work and pay 5% to 15% of export value, and the 2026 backlog.

The short answer

The Export Expansion Grant is an NEPC incentive that pays qualifying exporters between 5% and 15% of their annual export value, not in cash but through an Export Credit Certificate that can settle federal taxes, buy federal bonds or repay some government-linked loans. As at September 2026 the federal government said it had begun clearing payments outstanding since 2020 and reforming the scheme, so new claims should be made with that backlog in mind.

The Export Expansion Grant (EEG) is one of the best-known export incentives in Nigeria, and one of the most misunderstood. It is not a cash grant paid into your account soon after shipping. It is a credit, calculated on exports you have already made and been paid for, and in recent years it has been slow to arrive. This guide explains who qualifies, how the credit works and what changed in 2026.

Who qualifies

NEPC's EEG page lists these conditions:

  • Registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission and with NEPC.
  • Formal exports, with proceeds repatriated to a Nigerian bank account, confirmed by the CBN, and evidence of repatriation into a domiciliary account in Nigeria.
  • A minimum annual export turnover of ₦5 million.
  • Being a manufacturer, producer or merchant of products of Nigerian origin.
  • Baseline data submitted to NEPC: audited financial statements, information on operational capacity, a tax clearance certificate and an export expansion plan.

Exporters must also be accredited. NEPC lists an annual accreditation fee of ₦100,000, with an accreditation form, ID card, certificate of incorporation, two passport photographs, the exporter registration certificate and evidence of payment.

How the credit is calculated and paid

NEPC says exporters can receive between 5% and 15% of their annual export value, depending on the product category. Your baseline data sets your rate for one year, and that rate applies to that year's claims.

Payment comes as an Export Credit Certificate (ECC). NEPC lists these uses:

  • Settling federal government taxes such as company income tax, VAT and withholding tax.
  • Buying federal government bonds.
  • Settling credit facilities from the Bank of Industry, NEXIM Bank, Bank of Agriculture and CBN intervention facilities.
  • Settling AMCON liabilities.

The certificate can be transferred to a third party once. It is not a bank balance, so its value to you depends on having one of those liabilities to settle or a buyer for the certificate.

Worked example

Example only, with an assumed rate. A cashew processor exports goods worth ₦200 million in a year, all proceeds repatriated. If her baseline data set a rate of 10% for her product category, her claim would be ₦200,000,000 × 10% = ₦20,000,000, issued as an ECC. If her company income tax due that year were ₦8 million, she could apply ₦8 million of the certificate to it and would still hold ₦12 million of credit to use another way or transfer once.

What a claim needs

NEPC asks for claims in duplicate with:

  • Forms NXP certified by the processing bank, the Nigeria Customs Service and the pre-shipment inspection agent.
  • The bill of lading and final commercial invoice.
  • Single Goods Declaration forms endorsed by Customs on both sides.
  • CBN confirmation that proceeds were fully repatriated.
  • A clean certificate of inspection, including quality certification.
  • The NEPC-CBN schedule and export schedule, and anything else NEPC requests.

NEPC gives its service time as "usually 90 days after application". Our guides to the NXP form and to repatriating export proceeds cover the two documents most claims depend on.

Status in 2026: backlog and reform

On 17 September 2026 the News Agency of Nigeria reported Minister Jumoke Oduwole saying the government had begun clearing EEG payments outstanding since 2020 and restructuring the scheme. Key points from that report:

  • Payments approved in May 2023 were to go to the 10th National Assembly for approval, after which promissory notes could be issued through the Debt Management Office.
  • The President approved earmarking 40% of the NEST Fund for a trade facilitation fund intended to help settle EEG obligations.
  • The minister described the current structure as too expensive and without a closing date, and said a reformed scheme would favour value-added and finished products over raw materials.

NEPC's own EEG page does not say whether new claims are being processed normally. Before you spend on accreditation, ask NEPC in writing what happens to a claim lodged now.

Why claims stall

Most delays come from the paperwork rather than from the rate. The common gaps are:

  • An NXP that was not certified by all three parties NEPC names: the bank, Customs and the inspection agent.
  • Proceeds that arrived late, in part, or into an account that cannot be matched to the shipment, so CBN confirmation of full repatriation is missing.
  • Single Goods Declarations endorsed on one side only.
  • Baseline data not submitted for the year, so no rate has been set.
  • Names that differ between the CAC certificate, the NEPC certificate and the shipping documents.

Because payments depend on later approvals, keep a complete file for every shipment from the day it leaves, not when you sit down to claim.

What to check first

  • That your NEPC certificate is current.
  • That every shipment has a bank-certified NXP and documented repatriation.
  • That your accounts are audited and your tax clearance certificate is valid.
  • NEPC's current position on processing new claims.

Where Pryme fits

Clean records of what came in, in which currency, help any claim. A Pryme Business Account keeps USD, GBP and EUR receipts in the currency they arrived in, and the Finance agent can prepare schedules of inflows for your accountant to check.

Questions people ask

Is the Export Expansion Grant still running in 2026?

In September 2026 the federal government said it was clearing a backlog of EEG payments dating from 2020 and reforming the scheme. NEPC's page does not state whether new claims are processed normally, so ask NEPC.

How much is the EEG?

NEPC says between 5% and 15% of annual export value, depending on product category, set by your baseline data for one year.

Is the EEG paid in cash?

No. It is paid through an Export Credit Certificate used for federal taxes, federal bonds, some government-linked loans or AMCON liabilities, transferable once.

What is the minimum export turnover for EEG?

NEPC lists a minimum annual export turnover of ₦5 million.
