Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Notary in Manchester or Birmingham for Nigeria-bound papers

Outside London and need a notary for Nigerian papers? How to find and check one, what to bring, what it costs, and how to avoid a wasted trip to London.

The short answer

You do not need to go to London: notaries practise across England, and you can confirm that someone is a practising notary with their regulator, the Faculty Office (020 7222 5381). Bring an original passport, a recent proof of address and the unsigned documents. Published notary fee notes we read in October 2026 gave minimum fees of £140 to £190 per matter, and the FCDO apostille, if Nigeria asks for one, is £45 per paper document.

You can do it locally

Nigerians in Manchester, Birmingham and the rest of the North and Midlands sometimes assume Nigerian papers must be done in London, near the High Commission. They do not. Notarisation is a UK service done by any practising notary, and the apostille is issued by the FCDO Legalisation Office, which works by post and online. The High Commission's consular page does not list authentication of UK-notarised documents such as powers of attorney or affidavits, so there is usually no London step at all.

Finding a notary

  • Search locally. Many notaries work within law firms; some practise alone. Look for "notary public" with your city or postcode.
  • Know the bodies. The Faculty Office regulates notaries, and the Notaries Society is the membership body named in notaries' complaints procedures.
  • Check before you book. Ask for the notary's full name and confirm with the Faculty Office, 1 The Sanctuary, Westminster, London SW1P 3JT, 020 7222 5381.
  • Ask about visits. Some notaries travel to you for a charge, which helps for elderly parents or anyone in hospital.

Papers people commonly need notarised for Nigeria

DocumentWhy a notaryOur guide
Power of attorney for landSignature witnessed for use in Nigeria, then stamped and registered thereLand powers drafted in the UK

Affidavit for a SIM swap by proxyMTN asks for an affidavit from a court or notaryBarred SIM lines

Certified copies of ID or proof of addressSome Nigerian banks ask for notarised copies; check your bank's listNigerian bank KYC

Read more in powers of attorney for Nigerian land, powers over a Nigerian bank account and reactivating a barred SIM from the UK.

What it costs

There is no regulated fee. Fee notes we read in October 2026 gave minimum fees of £140 (a notary based in Swindon who also acts from Bath, Oxford and London offices) and £190 (Oxford), and hourly rates of £350 to £380 for complex work. We did not find published fee notes for Manchester or Birmingham, so ask two or three local notaries for a fixed quote. Our London guide, notary fees for Nigerian documents, shows a worked total.

As at October 2026, GOV.UK lists the apostille at £45 per paper document (up to 25 working days plus postage) or £35 for an e-Apostille (up to two working days), with UK return courier at £6 per 1.5kg.

What to bring

  • An original passport, or a photocard driving licence if you have no passport.
  • An original proof of address dated within three months.
  • Your Nigerian passport or NIN slip if the document refers to them.
  • The document, unsigned. Send it to the notary beforehand so they can check it.
  • For a consent letter: the child's birth certificate and the travel details.

Avoiding a wasted trip

  1. Ask the Nigerian recipient, in writing, exactly what they need: notarised, apostilled, or both.
  2. Get the final wording from your Nigerian lawyer before the appointment; changes after signing mean a second fee.
  3. Check names match across your British and Nigerian documents, or bring the marriage certificate that links them.
  4. Allow time. Stamping a land power in Nigeria has a 30-day clock under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, so plan courier time.

A worked example

Example: Ibrahim in Birmingham needs a power of attorney so his cousin can let his flat in Abuja. His Abuja lawyer emails a final draft on a Monday and confirms in writing that the registry needs the notarised original, not an apostille. He books a local notary for Thursday, sends the draft ahead, and brings his passport and a council tax bill. The notary witnesses his signature and he couriers the original the next day. The lawyer stamps and registers it in Abuja well inside 30 days of the Thursday signing. Had an apostille been needed, the paper service's up to 25 working days plus postage could have used most of the 30-day stamping window, which is why he asked first. Total UK cost: the notary's fixed fee and his courier charge. No trip to London was needed.

Where Pryme fits

Some Nigerian institutions ask for a certified bank statement. A verifiable statement from a Pryme account can be checked as genuine and unaltered by the recipient, which may save a notary visit; ask whether they accept one.

Questions people ask

Can I get Nigerian documents notarised in Manchester?

Yes. Any practising notary in the UK can notarise them; there is usually no need to travel to London.

How do I check a notary is real?

Ask for their full name and confirm with the Faculty Office, the notaries' regulator, on 020 7222 5381.

How much does a notary cost in Birmingham?

We found no published Birmingham fees. Notes elsewhere in England gave minimums of £140 to £190 per matter; ask local notaries for a fixed quote.

Do I need the Nigeria High Commission to stamp notarised documents?

Its consular page does not list authentication of UK-notarised documents. Ask the Nigerian recipient what they need.
