Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Power of attorney over a Nigerian bank account from the UK

Want someone at home to run your Nigerian account? Why banks usually prefer a mandate change to a power of attorney, what each needs, and the risks.

The short answer

Nigerian banks usually let someone else operate your account through a mandate: a form that adds them as a signatory or authorised person, with their own ID and BVN. A power of attorney is a wider legal document that some banks accept for certain steps but not others. From the UK, ask the bank which it accepts, certify your signature before a notary or another person the bank lists, and give only the power you need.

Mandate or power of attorney: the difference

Mandate
The bank's own record of who may operate the account and how: sole, joint, either to sign, or a named third party for some transactions. It is changed on the bank's form, and the bank controls exactly what each person can do.
Power of attorney
A legal document in which you (the donor) authorise another person (the attorney) to act for you. It can cover your bank account, land and other matters. The bank decides whether to act on it, and may still want its own forms completed.

For a bank, a mandate is easier: the person is on its records, has been identified by the bank, and has a specimen signature on file. A power of attorney asks the bank to rely on a document drafted elsewhere. That is why many banks treat a power as supporting evidence, not as a replacement for their own mandate.

What banks' own pages show

  • Access Bank's account management request form covers mandate and signature changes, among other requests, and lists ID such as a NIN slip or passport; for diaspora customers, a passport plus visa or notarised permit.
  • Access Bank's corporate account requirements list a power of attorney "where applicable" alongside the BVN of each signatory, which shows that a power can sit next to, not instead of, the bank's signatory records.
  • Fidelity Bank's diaspora page accepts documents certified by a notary, court, lawyer, Nigerian embassy, foreign banker or commissioner for oaths.
  • Providus Bank's diaspora page lists similar options for notarising documents, including a notary public, lawyer, the Nigerian high commission and your foreign bankers.

None of these pages sets out a full policy on powers of attorney for personal accounts. Ask the bank in writing before you pay a lawyer to draft one.

If the bank uses a mandate

  1. Ask for the mandate change or third-party authorisation form.
  2. Decide the level: view only, pay bills, transfer up to a limit, or full operation. Ask the bank what levels it offers.
  3. The new person provides their ID and BVN at the branch. Every person who operates an account will be identified by the bank.
  4. You sign the form and have your signature certified in the UK by a person on the bank's list. For more detail, see updating a bank mandate from the UK.
  5. Courier the original if the bank needs it, and confirm the change in writing.

If the bank wants a power of attorney

  • Have it drafted for the purpose: name the bank, the account numbers and the exact powers.
  • Sign before a UK notary; ask the bank whether it also wants an FCDO apostille. As at October 2026 GOV.UK lists £45 for a standard paper apostille. See notary fees in London.
  • A power executed abroad is an instrument; stamping rules may apply in Nigeria. Ask the bank or a Nigerian lawyer whether it needs to be stamped before the bank will act on it.
  • Keep a copy and know how to revoke it: a power granted by deed is revoked by deed, and a later power does not automatically cancel an earlier one.

The risks to weigh

  • Over-wide powers. A general power can let the attorney borrow, close accounts or move all your money. Limit it.
  • Codes and devices. Do not share your own internet banking login, token or PIN as a shortcut. Banks treat that as your own transaction.
  • Death or incapacity. The rules on what happens to a power when the donor dies or loses capacity differ from the UK. Ask a Nigerian lawyer. If you hold a UK lasting power of attorney, our guide to sending money to Nigeria under a UK LPA explains the UK side.
  • Dormancy. If the aim is only to stop the account going dormant, a periodic transaction from the UK may be all you need.

What to check first

  • Can you operate the account yourself from the UK with internet banking? Often that removes the need for anyone else.
  • What exactly should the other person be able to do, and up to what amount?
  • Will the bank accept a mandate, a power, or both, and in what form of certification?

Where Pryme fits

Many readers want someone at home mainly to pay bills or family costs. With a Pryme Personal Account you can do that yourself from the UK, and the Personal Assistant prepares payments and reminders; nothing moves without your approval.

Questions people ask

Can someone operate my Nigerian bank account for me?

Yes, usually through a mandate change that adds them as a signatory or authorised person, with their own ID and BVN.

Do Nigerian banks accept power of attorney?

Some accept a power for certain steps. Banks' pages do not set out a single policy, so ask your bank in writing first.

Where can I certify documents for a Nigerian bank in the UK?

Banks such as Fidelity and Providus accept certification by a notary, lawyer, the Nigerian high commission, your foreign banker or a commissioner for oaths.

Can I revoke a bank power of attorney from abroad?

Yes. A power granted by deed is revoked by deed; tell the bank in writing, as a later power does not cancel an earlier one automatically.
