Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

NNPC salary: what is public and what is not

NNPC Ltd publishes total staff costs in its audited accounts, not a pay scale. What the 2023 figures show, and how to read an NNPC job advert.

The short answer

NNPC Ltd does not publish a salary scale. Its audited accounts show total staff costs: for 2023, as reported by Sweetcrude Reports, ₦583.8 billion for 5,710 staff, which works out at about ₦102 million per employee for the year before any adjustment. That average covers everyone from new graduates to executives and includes allowances and welfare, so it is not a salary anyone should expect.

What NNPC publishes and what it does not

NNPC Ltd releases audited financial statements. Those include a note on staff costs, the number of employees and what top executives received. They do not include a grade table, the starting salary for graduate trainees, or what a given job title is paid. Figures you see on forums for "NNPC entry level salary" do not come from those statements.

The 2023 staff cost figures

Sweetcrude Reports summarised the 2023 audited statement on 1 September 2024. The key lines:

Item (2023)AmountChange on 2022
Total staff costs₦583.797bnup from ₦266.933bn
Salaries and wages₦226.873bnup from ₦73.681bn
Staff allowances₦179.83bnup from ₦58.215bn
Staff welfare₦77.193bnup from ₦36.889bn
Staff at 31 Dec 20235,710 (4,648 men, 1,062 women)
CEO, CFO, general counsel and four EVPs combined₦3.051bnup from ₦1.308bn

One check worth doing: the three itemised lines add to ₦483.896 billion, which is about ₦99.9 billion short of the ₦583.797 billion total. The report did not itemise the rest; it may include pension and other benefits. That gap is a reminder to read the accounts themselves rather than a summary.

Working out an average, and why it misleads

Here is the arithmetic, so you can see where viral "NNPC pays ₦X a month" claims can come from.

  • Total staff costs ÷ staff: ₦583.797bn ÷ 5,710 = about ₦102.2 million a year, or about ₦8.52 million a month.
  • Salaries and wages only ÷ staff: ₦226.873bn ÷ 5,710 = about ₦39.7 million a year, or about ₦3.31 million a month.
  • The seven named executives shared ₦3.051bn, about ₦435.9 million each for the year.

None of these is a salary. The averages include the executives, every grade and every subsidiary counted in the headcount, and the total includes welfare spending that is not paid to individuals as cash. A new graduate's pay and an executive vice president's pay are averaged into the same number. The numbers are also for 2023; costs have changed since.

The jump from 2022 to 2023

Total staff costs rose from ₦266.933 billion to ₦583.797 billion, an increase of about 118.7%. Salaries and wages alone roughly tripled, from ₦73.681 billion to ₦226.873 billion (up about 207.9%), and allowances rose by a similar proportion. The report did not give the 2022 headcount or explain the rise, so it is not possible to say from public figures how much was pay increases, new hires, restructuring or currency effects. What the jump does show is that any figure for "NNPC pay" needs a year attached; a number from 2022 and a number from 2023 can differ by a factor of two or three.

Credible versus doubtful reports

  • More credible: reports that quote the audited statements, give the year, and separate salaries, allowances and welfare.
  • Less credible: posts that give one monthly figure for a job title with no year, no source and no gross or net label.
  • Unverifiable: claims from "an insider" about a specific grade. They may be right, but nothing public lets you check them.

How to read an NNPC job advert

NNPC adverts typically describe the role, location and requirements, not pay. When pay is not stated, it is normally set in the offer letter. Use the advert to check legitimacy and the offer to check money.

What to check first

  1. Find the vacancy on NNPC's own careers page. If it exists only on a blog or a WhatsApp forward, treat it as suspect.
  2. Never pay for a form, test slot or "placement". The Federal Civil Service Commission has warned that federal recruitment does not go through paid agents; treat any request for money in an NNPC recruitment as a red flag.
  3. When you get an offer, ask for the breakdown: basic, each allowance, and what is paid monthly versus annually.
  4. Work out net pay after PAYE using the 2026 PAYE bands; under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, the top band of 25% applies above ₦50 million of taxable income, as BusinessDay explained in January 2026.
  5. If the offer comes through a subsidiary or a contractor, confirm who your employer is; contractor staff are not on NNPC's payroll.

Contract staff and "oil company" pay

People who work at NNPC sites may be employed by service companies, not NNPC itself. Their pay is set by those firms and does not appear in NNPC's staff costs. The same is true of joint-venture partners and their staff. So when a relative's pay at "NNPC" sounds very different from the averages above, the most likely explanation is that a different employer is paying it, or that the figure is from a different year. When someone says they "work for NNPC", ask who pays their salary. For a wider look at the sector, see our guide to oil and gas graduate trainee pay and how CBN staff costs are reported.

If you are planning around a big first salary, our guide on gross versus net pay walks through deductions line by line.

Questions people ask

How much does NNPC pay graduates?

NNPC Ltd does not publish graduate pay. Its 2023 accounts show ₦226.873 billion in salaries and wages for 5,710 staff, but that average mixes all grades; only an offer letter gives a particular graduate's pay.

How many staff does NNPC have?

The 2023 audited statement, as reported by Sweetcrude Reports, gave 5,710 staff at December 2023: 4,648 men and 1,062 women.

Is NNPC salary structure public?

No grade-by-grade structure is published. Total staff costs, headcount and executive pay are in the audited accounts.

Do I pay to apply for NNPC jobs?

Treat any request for payment as a warning sign. Apply only through NNPC's own careers page; federal recruiters warn that genuine recruitment does not use paid agents.
