Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is a NIP session ID and how it helps trace a transfer

The session ID is the reference Nigerian banks use to find a NIP transfer. What it is, where UK senders get one and how to use it in a dispute.

The short answer

A NIP session ID is the unique reference given to each NIBSS Instant Payment transfer between Nigerian institutions; Moniepoint describes it as a 30-digit number. Banks use it to find a specific transfer in the NIBSS system, so it is the fastest way to trace money that left a sender but did not arrive. For money sent from the UK, the local transfer is made by your provider's Nigerian payout partner, so ask the provider for the session ID.

What NIP is and where the session ID comes from

NIBSS Instant Payment (NIP) is the system Nigerian banks, microfinance banks and fintechs use to move naira between accounts in real time. NIBSS's own page describes it as an account-number-based transfer where a name enquiry lets the sending institution check the beneficiary's details before sending, and funds are available in real time before settlement. It also lists a Transaction Status Query, which is how institutions ask NIBSS what happened to a transfer.

Each NIP transfer is identified by a session ID, which appears on the sender's transfer summary or receipt and which the receiving bank can search. Moniepoint's support pages describe it as the beneficiary's 30-digit session ID and ask customers to give it when a transfer was successful but not received.

Why it matters for money sent from the UK

When you send from a UK app to a Nigerian account, there are two transactions: your payment to the UK provider, and the naira credit from the provider's Nigerian partner to the recipient. Your app's reference (an MTCN or a transfer ID) identifies the first one. The session ID identifies the second, which is the part a Nigerian bank can see.

ReferenceWho issues itWho can use it
MTCN or app transfer IDYour UK providerYou and the provider's support
NIP session IDGenerated on the Nigerian transferThe recipient's bank, the paying institution, NIBSS
Bank statement narrationThe receiving bankThe recipient, to spot the credit

That is why a recipient's bank will often say "bring the session ID" when asked about a missing transfer from abroad. Searching by amount and date across thousands of incoming credits is slow; a session ID points to one transaction.

How to get the session ID

  1. Open the transfer in your app and look for a payout reference, local reference or session ID in the details or the receipt.
  2. If it is not shown, contact the provider's support with your transfer ID and ask for "the NIP session ID of the payout to the Nigerian bank".
  3. Ask for the paying institution's name, the date and time, and the exact naira amount at the same time.
  4. Pass these to the recipient, who gives them to their bank.

Using the session ID in a dispute

With the session ID, the recipient's bank can confirm whether the credit arrived and, if so, where it went: into the account, into a suspense or held state because of limits, or back to the sender. If the bank says it never arrived, the paying institution can query NIBSS with the same number.

What Nigerian rules say about failed and wrong transfers

The CBN's Regulation on Instant (Inter-Bank) EFT Services of September 2018, as summarised by Mondaq in July 2025, provides that a transfer sent in error by a bank can be reversed without the beneficiary's authorisation if the request is made within 14 working days, with the reversal due within one business day. A transfer sent to the wrong account by a customer's own mistake needs the beneficiary's consent, and the receiving bank may place a lien for up to two weeks. Whether every part is applied the same way today is not confirmed, so treat it as background.

  • Money left the partner but is not in the account: the session ID lets the bank find it.
  • Money went to the wrong account because of a typo: the session ID shows which account received it, but recovery depends on that account holder.
  • The transfer failed and should be reversed: the session ID shows that it failed, which supports a refund request to your UK provider.

If the problem sits with your UK provider rather than the bank, use the complaint route in taking a transfer complaint to the Financial Ombudsman. For a recipient still waiting, see when the Nigerian bank has not credited a transfer.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme customers can generate a regular or verifiable receipt for a payment (receipts), which gives the recipient's bank a document to work from alongside the reference. Naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. For how NIP sits next to other Nigerian payment rails, read NIP vs NEFT vs RTGS.

Questions people ask

How many digits is a NIP session ID?

Moniepoint's support pages describe it as a 30-digit number. Keep the full number exactly; a missing digit makes it useless for a trace.

Where do I find the session ID for money I sent from the UK?

In the transfer details or receipt if your provider shows it; otherwise ask the provider's support for the session ID of the payout to the Nigerian bank.

Is the MTCN the same as a session ID?

No. The MTCN identifies your Western Union transfer. The session ID identifies the local naira credit inside Nigeria, which is what the recipient's bank can search.

Can a bank reverse a transfer that went to the wrong account?

Under the CBN's 2018 instant transfer regulation as summarised by Mondaq, a customer's own error needs the beneficiary's consent, while a bank's error can be reversed without it if reported within 14 working days.
