Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Can Nigerians abroad vote? Diaspora voting status

Why Nigerians abroad cannot vote from overseas under current law, what happened to diaspora voting bills, the 2026 Electoral Act, and how to vote at home.

The short answer

No, not from abroad. As at October 2026, the Constitution and the Electoral Act tie voter registration and voting to a polling unit in Nigeria, so a Nigerian abroad can vote only by registering and being physically present at their polling unit on election day. A diaspora voting amendment was rejected by the National Assembly in 2022, and the Electoral Act signed in February 2026 did not add overseas voting.

Diaspora groups have campaigned for overseas voting for years, and INEC and NIDCOM have backed the idea. With the 2027 general elections approaching, the question is practical: can you vote from London, Houston or Johannesburg? Here is the legal position, the history of the reform attempts, and what you can do now.

The barrier is constitutional. TheCable's 2023 analysis points to section 77(2) of the Constitution, which ties voter registration to residence in Nigeria, with matching provisions in sections 132(5) and 178(5) for presidential and governorship elections. INEC has consistently said it cannot go further than the law. In November 2020 the then chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, said diaspora voting "requires amendment to the constitution and the Electoral Act", adding that "we can't go beyond what the law provides".

What would be needed
A constitutional amendment passed by both chambers of the National Assembly and approved by two-thirds of state houses of assembly, then assent, plus changes to the Electoral Act.
Who decides
The National Assembly and state assemblies, not INEC.
INEC's role
Implement whatever the law allows; its chairmen have argued for diaspora voting while saying they cannot act without a change in the law.

What happened to the bills

How to vote if you are abroad

You can vote only at the polling unit where you are registered, in person, on election day. INEC's 2025 to 2026 continuous voter registration closed on Sunday 26 July 2026, according to INEC's statement reported by Peoples Gazette. INEC urged people who had moved not to register again but to apply for a transfer of registration online at cvr.inecnigeria.org or at a registration centre.

  1. Check your registration status with INEC before you book travel; the voter registration portal is cvr.inecnigeria.org.
  2. If you have moved within Nigeria, apply to transfer your registration if a window is open.
  3. If your permanent voter card (PVC) is still uncollected, ask INEC how and when it can be collected in person.
  4. Plan travel so you are at your polling unit on election day.

Registering with NIDCOM's diaspora database is useful for consular contact, but a secondary report notes it does not give voting rights; see the NIDCOM diaspora registration portal.

Worked example

Example only: Fatima, in Toronto, registered in Kano in 2018 and still has her PVC. She checks her status online, books a flight to arrive two days before the presidential election, and votes at her polling unit. Her brother, who left Nigeria in 2017 and never registered, cannot vote in 2027 because registration has closed and he cannot register from abroad.

What would change things

Watch for three steps: a diaspora voting amendment passing both chambers of the National Assembly, approval by at least two-thirds of the state assemblies, and an Electoral Act amendment telling INEC how overseas voting would work. Until all three happen, the answer stays the same.

Claims to treat with caution

  • Proxy voting. Proxy votes do not count in Nigerian elections. A NIDO official quoted in 2023 said many Nigerians in the US planned to use proxy voting even though those votes would not be counted.
  • Mock or symbolic polls abroad have no legal effect on results.
  • Apps and portals that promise overseas registration: INEC's registration runs on its own portal and centres. Check the address before entering your details.
  • Reports that a bill has "passed". Passage by one chamber, or a committee vote, is not the end. A constitutional change needs both chambers, two-thirds of state assemblies and assent.

If overseas voting is introduced, INEC will publish how registration abroad works. Until then, the only way to vote is to be registered and present at your polling unit.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme takes no position on elections. If you travel home to vote, a Pryme Personal Account lets you hold naira for the trip and convert with Swap when you choose.

Questions people ask

Can Nigerians in the diaspora vote in 2027?

Not from abroad under current law. You can vote only if registered and physically present at your polling unit in Nigeria.

Has the diaspora voting bill been passed?

A diaspora voting amendment was rejected in 2022. We found no report of a later amendment passing both chambers and the state assemblies as at October 2026.

Can I register to vote at the Nigerian embassy?

No. INEC registration and transfers run through INEC's own portal and centres in Nigeria, and the 2025 to 2026 exercise closed on 26 July 2026.

Does NIDCOM registration let me vote?

No. A report on the NIDCOM diaspora app says it does not confer voting rights.
