Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Nigerian REITs on NGX: an option for UK-based investors?

Listed REITs give Nigerian property exposure without buying land. How they work, which trade on NGX, what buying costs and how the UK taxes payouts.

The short answer

A Nigerian REIT is a listed trust that owns property and pays out most of its rental income; you buy units on NGX through a stockbroker, as with shares. Union Homes REIT and UPDC REIT are among those listed. For a UK-based investor, REITs avoid the title and management risks of owning land, but carry naira risk, thin trading and UK tax on distributions.

How a REIT works

A real estate investment trust pools investors' money to own income-producing property, such as offices, homes or shopping centres, and distributes most of the income. A July 2026 article in The Guardian Nigeria, written by the research head of an investment firm, says the SEC requires REITs to distribute at least 90% of their income, which makes them among the highest cash-yield instruments on the exchange. You own units in the trust, not a piece of any building, and the price moves with the market.

Which REITs trade on NGX

Union Homes REIT and UPDC REIT are both listed on the Nigerian Exchange. The same Guardian article reported year-to-date returns, as at the end of June 2026, of over 35% for Union Homes REIT and over 41% for UPDC REIT. Those are price returns over six months in a rising market, not a forecast. Check the NGX daily official list or your broker for current prices.

REITs are also held through funds. SEC net asset value data reported by Nairametrics put REIT funds at ₦505.64 billion in April 2026, 5.77% of the ₦8.77 trillion Nigerian mutual fund industry, with an average year-to-date yield of 7.01% at that point.

Why it might suit you

  • No title risk. You avoid the C of O, Governor's consent and fraud problems that come with buying land from abroad.
  • No tenants to chase. The trust's manager handles letting and maintenance.
  • Small amounts. The Guardian article puts entry points as low as ₦5,000.
  • Cash income. Distributions arrive without you managing a property.

The risks

  • Naira risk. Distributions and prices are in naira. A good naira return can shrink once converted to pounds.
  • Liquidity. Some REITs trade thinly; you may not sell quickly at the price you see.
  • Concentration. A REIT may own only a few buildings.
  • Source bias. Much commentary comes from firms with an interest; treat it as a starting point.

What buying costs

You need a stockbroker and a CSCS account; the CSCS FAQ says your Clearing House Number (CHN) is your unique investor number, opened through a broker first. Charges differ by platform. As an example, Bamboo's fee page for Nigerian stocks (3 September 2026) lists on a purchase a 1% platform commission, an SEC fee of 0.3%, stamp duty of 0.08%, brokerage of 0.75% to 1.35%, VAT at 7.5% on the brokerage and SEC fees, and a ₦4 alert fee.

Example: ₦1,000,000 purchase on that scheduleAmount
Platform commission 1%₦10,000
SEC fee 0.3%₦3,000
Stamp duty 0.08%₦800
Brokerage at 0.75%₦7,500
VAT 7.5% on brokerage and SEC fee₦787.50
Trade alert₦4
Total charges₦22,091.50 (about 2.2%)

Selling adds its own charges, so a round trip can cost several per cent before any gain. For how to fund a Nigerian broker from the UK, see funding a Nigerian stockbroker from a UK account.

A REIT will not give you a house your family can live in, and you cannot add value by renovating. It suits someone who wants property income in their portfolio without the work. For direct ownership, read managing a Lagos rental from the UK.

Steps to buy

  1. Choose a Nigerian stockbroker that accepts clients living abroad.
  2. Open a CSCS account through the broker and get your CHN.
  3. Fund the account in naira.
  4. Read the REIT's latest annual report and distribution history.
  5. Place the order and keep the contract note for your tax records, along with each distribution advice the registrar sends you.

UK tax on REIT distributions

If you are UK resident, distributions from a Nigerian REIT are foreign income. GOV.UK says UK residents normally pay UK tax on foreign income, and the SA106 notes ask you to include all dividend income, even below the £500 dividend allowance. How a distribution is classed, as a dividend or otherwise, can affect the rate, and Nigerian withholding on it may be creditable. A gain on selling units is a capital gain, worked out in pounds; see NGX dividends, UK tax and withholding credit. Tax points are information, not advice.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account lets you hold naira for investing and receive distributions, then Swap to pounds when you choose, with the rate and fee shown first. Pryme is not a stockbroker; units are bought through a licensed Nigerian broker.

Questions people ask

Can I buy Nigerian REITs from the UK?

Yes, through a Nigerian stockbroker that accepts clients abroad. You need a CSCS account (CHN) and will usually need a BVN and Nigerian bank account.

Which REITs are listed on the Nigerian Exchange?

Union Homes REIT and UPDC REIT are among those listed. Check the NGX daily official list for the current list and prices.

Do Nigerian REITs pay regular income?

A July 2026 Guardian Nigeria article says the SEC requires REITs to distribute at least 90% of their income. Payment frequency varies by trust.

Is REIT income taxed in the UK?

For UK residents, yes in most cases. It is foreign income reported on the SA106 pages, with credit for Nigerian tax where available.
