Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada

Nigerian police certificate for Canadian citizenship: when needed

When IRCC wants a foreign police certificate for citizenship, how the Nigerian one is issued through POSSAP, and how to get it from Canada.

The short answer

IRCC says adults (18 and over) applying for Canadian citizenship need police certificates, and for any country other than where you now live the certificate must be issued after your last stay there of six consecutive months or more since age 18. If you lived in Nigeria for six months or longer as an adult, follow your citizenship checklist on whether a Nigerian Police Character Certificate is needed, and expect IRCC to ask for updated documents during processing if it chooses.

Most Nigerians applying for Canadian citizenship spent their adult years in Nigeria before becoming permanent residents. A police certificate from Nigeria may have been part of the PR file already. Whether you need a fresh one for citizenship, and how to get it from Toronto or Winnipeg, are the questions this guide answers.

What IRCC says about citizenship

IRCC's page "When to get a police certificate" (modified 19 February 2026) says that for citizenship you need a police certificate if you are an adult aged 18 or over, or if you are resuming citizenship after giving it up. Its general rules then govern which countries and how recent:

  • For a country other than the one you live in now, the certificate must be issued after your last stay there of six consecutive months or longer since you turned 18.
  • IRCC "may require updated documentation at any time during processing".
  • Certificates in a language other than English or French need a certified translation.

The page does not set a citizenship-specific day count or deadline; those details sit in the citizenship application guide and document checklist, which you should read before you file. IRCC's wider police certificates page adds that if a certificate cannot be obtained, you must show proof of your requests and a letter explaining your efforts, which does not guarantee acceptance.

Applying the rule to a typical case

Example only. Ada lived in Lagos until she landed in Canada as a PR in March 2021, then spent four months in Nigeria in 2024. Her last stay of six consecutive months or more in Nigeria as an adult ended in March 2021. Under the general rule, a Nigerian certificate would need to be issued after that date; a certificate she obtained for her PR application before she left would not meet it. Her 2024 visit was under six months, so it does not move the date. Her checklist decides whether the Nigerian certificate is required for her file.

The Nigerian certificate and how it is issued

The document is the Police Character Certificate issued by the Nigeria Police Force. The US State Department's Nigeria notes say it is available to applicants over 16 who lived in Nigeria for six months, can be applied for online through POSSAP (possap.gov.ng) or in person at the CID, and that old red and new blue formats are both in use. Leadership reported in July 2026 that the POSSAP fee is a one-time, non-refundable charge per request paid only through the POSSAP invoice, with no extra fee at police formations for biometrics or collection, and a minimum processing time of 72 hours. Neither source gives the amount or explains biometric capture for applicants overseas.

Our Nigeria guide to the police character certificate and POSSAP covers the portal steps in full. From Canada, see getting Nigerian police clearance from Canada for the overseas route.

If POSSAP is slow or the record is wrong

Delays happen, and IRCC's own guidance anticipates them by asking for proof of your requests if a certificate cannot be obtained. Save the POSSAP invoice, the payment confirmation and every email or ticket number, with dates. If the certificate arrives with a spelling or date error, ask for a correction before you submit it; a certificate that does not match your passport invites a follow-up request and slows the file. Where you have used more than one name in Nigeria, give POSSAP the names IRCC will see on your other documents.

Authentication through Ottawa

The Nigeria High Commission in Ottawa offers authentication of the Police Character Certificate. Its legalisation page says the certificate, issued by the Nigeria Police Force CID Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, must first go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja for verification before being sent to Ottawa. The fee is C$50 plus a C$50 administrative fee, by money order to the High Commission, with a photocopy of your passport data page and a Canada Post Priority or Xpresspost return envelope; it states ten business days. Check whether IRCC actually wants an authenticated copy before paying for this step.

Steps from Canada

  1. Work out your last continuous six-month stay in Nigeria since age 18, using your passport stamps.
  2. Read the citizenship guide and checklist for the version you are filing.
  3. If a Nigerian certificate is required, apply through POSSAP and pay via its invoice; ask how overseas applicants complete biometrics.
  4. Keep every request email and receipt. If the certificate is delayed, these are your proof of effort for IRCC.
  5. Submit or upload it as the checklist directs; respond promptly if IRCC asks for an updated one.

You will also need a Canadian check in many cases; see RCMP record checks for that side.

Where Pryme fits

POSSAP fees and any agent costs in Nigeria are paid in naira. A Pryme account holds naira, and Send shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Do I need a Nigerian police certificate for Canadian citizenship?

IRCC says adults applying for citizenship need police certificates. For a country other than Canada, the certificate must be issued after your last stay there of six consecutive months or more since 18; your checklist confirms which apply.

Can I reuse the Nigerian police certificate from my PR application?

Under IRCC's general rule it must be issued after your last six-month stay in Nigeria. A certificate issued before you left may not meet that, and IRCC can ask for updated documents.

How do I get a Nigerian police character certificate from Canada?

Apply through POSSAP (possap.gov.ng) and pay through its invoice. Ask how overseas applicants complete biometrics, as the sources we read do not explain it.

Does the Ottawa High Commission authenticate police certificates?

Yes, after verification by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. The fee listed is C$50 plus a C$50 administrative fee, by money order.
