Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada

Requesting a Nigerian university transcript sent to Canada

How Nigerian universities process transcript requests, why Canadian evaluators want sealed copies sent directly, and how to manage it from Canada.

The short answer

A Nigerian transcript for Canada is requested from your university's registry (often its exams and records unit), paid for in naira, and sent by the university directly to the Canadian institution or credential evaluator in a sealed envelope or through the university's own portal. Fees, turnaround and courier rules are set by each university, so check its current transcript page or bulletin before paying.

For a Canadian master's programme, a professional licence or a credential evaluation, a copy of your Nigerian degree certificate is not enough. The receiving body wants your full academic record, and it wants it from the university, not from you. Nigerian universities each run their own transcript process, so there is no single national fee or form. What follows is how the process generally works and how to avoid the common delays.

Why it must come from the university

Canadian evaluators and admissions offices treat a transcript as official only when it reaches them from the issuing institution. World Education Services, a credential evaluator, illustrates this in its help centre article for University of Ibadan graduates: you first submit a WES application to get a reference number, download the Academic Records Request Form from your WES account, and the university sends the transcript in a sealed envelope together with that form. The applicant separately sends a photocopy of the degree certificate. That article sits in WES's US help centre, so check the Canadian WES page for your university, but the principle is the same: the sealed record travels from the school to the evaluator.

How Nigerian universities handle requests

Each university publishes its own fees, usually in a bulletin or on its registry or student portal. As an example of how they are set, Bayero University Kano's Special Bulletin No. 33 of 24 June 2023 lists a transcript fee of ₦5,000, among other charges. That is one university's figure from 2023, not a guide to what yours charges now. Courier charges for overseas delivery are often extra.

The common pattern is:

  1. An application through the university's online portal or at the registry or exams and records office, giving your matriculation number, course, year of graduation and the recipient's full address.
  2. Payment of the transcript fee and, for overseas delivery, a courier charge, usually through a payment platform the university names.
  3. Processing by the registry, which prints, signs, seals and stamps the record.
  4. Dispatch by courier to the Canadian address, or electronic delivery where the university and recipient both support it.

Managing it from Canada

If the university has an online portal

Apply and pay online, upload the evaluator's form, and keep the payment reference. Ask the registry by email for the courier tracking number once it is dispatched.

If the process is in person

Many older records still need someone at the registry. A relative or trusted agent can usually submit on your behalf with a signed authorisation letter, a copy of your ID and your graduation details. Give them the evaluator's form in a sealed envelope if the university must include it, and ask for a copy of every receipt.

ProblemUsual causeWhat helps
Record not foundOld graduation year, paper archiveGive your matric number, faculty, year and certificate copy
Name mismatchMarriage or spelling changeSend a marriage certificate or sworn affidavit with the request
Evaluator says not receivedMissing form or wrong addressMatch the reference number; get the courier tracking
Unpaid outstanding feesOld debts on the student recordAsk the bursary to confirm the balance first

Timing your request

Allow for three separate clocks: the registry's own processing, the courier from Nigeria to Canada, and the evaluator's time to match and log the document. None of these is published as a fixed period by most universities, so start as soon as you have the evaluator's reference, not when an application deadline is close. If a Canadian programme has a fixed intake date, tell the registry the deadline in writing; some registries can prioritise a request when shown an admission letter. Ask for the transcript to be sent to every recipient you will need in one request where the university allows it, because a second request often means a second fee and a second wait.

Some Canadian bodies also want your secondary school results; see sending WAEC results to a Canadian college. If you ever need a Nigerian authority to evaluate your Canadian qualification, the Federal Ministry of Education's Evaluation and Accreditation Division handles that in Abuja; its page lists degree certificate, transcript and O'Level results among the documents. For posting originals, see sending original documents from Canada to Nigeria.

What to check first

  • Does the Canadian body want a sealed paper transcript, an electronic one, or either?
  • Is there an evaluator reference number or form that must travel with it?
  • What does your university charge today, and is overseas courier included?
  • Do your names match across the transcript, certificate and passport?

Where Pryme fits

Registry fees and agent costs are paid in naira. With a Pryme account opened from Canada you can hold naira and pay through Send, with the rate and fee shown before you approve. A verifiable receipt helps if the registry asks for proof of payment.

Questions people ask

How do I get my Nigerian university transcript sent to WES Canada?

Get your WES reference number and records request form first, then apply to your university's registry, which sends the sealed transcript with the form directly to WES.

How much is a Nigerian university transcript?

Each university sets its own fee. Bayero University Kano listed ₦5,000 in a June 2023 bulletin, for example; overseas courier is often extra.

Can my relative collect and post my transcript?

Canadian evaluators generally want it sent by the university, so a relative should submit and pay, not post it themselves, unless the recipient says otherwise.

Why does the evaluator say my transcript has not arrived?

Usually the form or reference number was missing or the address was wrong. Ask the registry for the courier tracking and match the reference.
