Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Spain

How long a Nigerian passport takes at the Madrid embassy

No official timeline exists for Nigerian passports issued in Madrid. Here is what each stage involves, how to track it and how to plan travel around it.

The short answer

Neither the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) nor the Embassy of Nigeria in Madrid publishes a standard processing time for passports issued in Spain, so any fixed number of weeks you hear is anecdotal. What you can do is track the application on the NIS tracking portal after biometric capture and avoid booking firm travel until the Embassy tells you the booklet is ready to collect.

Nigerians in Spain ask this question more than almost any other, usually because a TIE renewal, a job start or a trip home depends on the answer. We looked for an official figure and did not find one: the NIS passports page lists portals for applying, paying, booking and tracking, but no service time for applications processed abroad, and we found no published Madrid timeline. This guide explains what happens between capture and collection, where delays usually come from, and how to plan without a promised date.

The stages between applying and collecting

  1. Online application and payment. You complete the form on the NIS portal, choose the Embassy of Nigeria in Madrid as processing office and pay online. NIS says payment is strictly online.
  2. Biometric capture. You attend the Embassy for fingerprints and photo, with your old passport and printed documents, unless your case is eligible for the contactless route on the NIS app.
  3. Approval and production. The application is reviewed and the booklet produced. This is the stage you cannot see into, and the one where waits vary most.
  4. Notification and collection. The Embassy tells you the passport is ready and how to collect it.

Only the first two stages are in your hands. Once you have been captured, the useful tool is the NIS tracking portal (track.immigration.gov.ng), which the NIS passports page lists alongside the application and appointment portals. Keep your Application ID and Reference number from the payment receipt; you need both to check status.

What makes some applications slower

Without published service times, the honest answer is that the same Embassy can turn round two applications at very different speeds. The causes we can point to from official pages are these:

  • NIN mismatches. The form checks your National Identification Number. Missions abroad, such as the Nigeria High Commission in London, require your NIN details to match your passport. A mismatch stops the application until the NIN record is corrected.
  • Change-of-data cases. A married name, a corrected date of birth or a reordered name is not a plain renewal. NIS lists extra documents and an administrative charge for corrections, and these files take longer to review.
  • Children's passports. Minors need parental consent and parents' data pages; missing consent letters are a common reason for a file to be sent back.
  • Contactless glitches. In September 2025 NIS acknowledged technical problems with its contactless system, while saying more than 15,000 passports had been issued through it. If you used the app, check its in-app support before assuming the delay is at the Embassy.

Collecting the passport, or having it posted

We found no Madrid page that sets out collection rules, whether the Embassy will post the booklet back, or whether someone else may collect on your behalf. Practice differs between missions: the Nigeria High Commission in London, for example, returns passports by post in a prepaid special-delivery envelope the applicant supplies. Do not assume Madrid does the same. Ask at capture whether postal return is available, what envelope or courier it requires, and whether a third party can collect with a signed authorisation and your ID. The Embassy is at Calle Segre 23, 28002 Madrid, as listed by the Spanish Embassy in Abuja; phone numbers are in our guide to the Nigerian Embassy in Madrid.

Planning around an open-ended wait

SituationWhat to do
Passport expires in under six monthsApply now. With no published processing time, leave yourself the widest margin you can.
TIE renewal coming upStart the passport first and keep the payment receipt and acknowledgement slip as evidence it is in progress.
Trip to Nigeria bookedUse flexible tickets until the booklet is in your hands.
Urgent travel with an expired or lost passportAsk the Embassy about an emergency travel certificate; see lost passport in Spain.

Fees abroad were reported at $150 for a 32-page five-year booklet and $230 for a 64-page ten-year one when domestic fees rose in September 2025 (Techeconomy, 28 August 2025); the portal shows the amount due before you pay. For the full renewal process, see renewing a Nigerian passport in Madrid.

What to check first

  • Your NIN record matches your current passport exactly, including name order.
  • Whether your case is a renewal or a change of data.
  • Your Application ID and Reference number are saved somewhere you can find them.
  • At capture, ask the Embassy how it will notify you and how collection works.

Where Pryme fits

The passport fee is charged in dollars, while most readers in Spain are paid in euros. A Pryme multicurrency account holds EUR and USD with local details, and the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve a conversion. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's financial activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

How many weeks does a Nigerian passport take in Spain?

There is no official figure. NIS and the Madrid Embassy do not publish a processing time for applications abroad, so track your application on the NIS tracking portal after capture.

How do I check if my Nigerian passport is ready in Madrid?

Use the NIS tracking portal with your Application ID and Reference number, and wait for the Embassy's notice before travelling to collect.

Can the Nigerian Embassy in Madrid post my passport to me?

We found no published Madrid rule. Some missions, such as London, return passports by post; ask the Madrid Embassy at your capture appointment.

Can someone collect my Nigerian passport for me in Spain?

No Madrid page we found says. Ask the Embassy what authorisation and ID it would need before sending anyone.
