Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Nigerian dollar mutual funds for UAE residents

SEC-registered dollar funds invest mostly in Nigerian Eurobonds. How a UAE resident subscribes, redeems, what it costs and the risks to weigh.

The short answer

Nigerian dollar mutual funds are SEC-registered unit trusts that invest mostly in Nigerian sovereign and corporate Eurobonds, priced and paid out in US dollars. A UAE resident subscribes directly with the fund manager after KYC, pays in dollars, and redeems to a nominated dollar account; examples include the Stanbic IBTC Dollar Fund (minimum $100) and the ARM Eurobond Fund (minimum $1,000).

For a Nigerian earning dirhams, a dollar fund looks like a neat middle path: exposure to Nigeria without naira risk, small minimums and someone else choosing the bonds. That is broadly what these funds offer, but the returns, fees and redemption rules differ a lot between funds, and none of them is a deposit.

What a Nigerian dollar fund holds

SEC data reported by Nairametrics put dollar funds (Eurobond and fixed income) at ₦1.85 trillion in April 2026, 21.05% of all Nigerian mutual fund assets, with an average year-to-date yield of 4.58% at that point. Two published examples show the range:

Stanbic IBTC Dollar FundARM Eurobond Fund
MandateAt least 70% Eurobonds, up to 30% short-term dollar deposits, up to 10% SEC-registered dollar equitiesComposite benchmark of 3-year Nigerian sovereign Eurobond and US T-bill yields; may hold 70-100% bonds
Minimum$100, then $100$1,000 initial
Fees statedManagement fee 1.5%; expense ratio 3.5%Management fee 1.5% of NAV; incentive fee up to 20% of excess return over benchmark
Lock-in182-day minimum holding; 20% of accrued income charged if redeemed earlierNot stated on factsheet
RedemptionOnline to nominated account within 3 working days, up to $5,000 a dayNot stated on factsheet
Source dateFund page, Oct 2026Factsheet, Sept 2025

The SEC's collective investment scheme rules (December 2019) set the outer limits: open-ended funds must settle redemptions within five working days, and total expenses excluding any incentive fee are capped at 3.5% of net asset value a year.

Subscribing from the UAE

  1. Check the fund and its manager on the SEC's register of capital market operators.
  2. Complete the manager's KYC. Stanbic IBTC asks for a form, passport photograph, government ID and proof of address, opens the account in one business day and emails an e-account number. Ask whether a UAE address document is accepted.
  3. Pay in dollars by transfer, quoting your e-account number. Cash is not accepted. The payment can come from a UAE bank account in your name or from a Nigerian domiciliary account; ask the manager which it accepts and whether a third-party payment is allowed.
  4. Keep the subscription confirmation showing units allotted and the price per unit.

Sending dollars out of a UAE account incurs the sending bank's charges and sometimes an intermediary bank fee; our guide to opening a USD account at a UAE bank explains why a dollar account avoids a double conversion.

Redeeming and getting the money out

Redemptions go to the account you nominated at onboarding. If that is a Nigerian domiciliary account, you then need a second transfer to bring the dollars to the UAE; if the manager pays abroad, ask about its charges. Redeeming inside a lock-in period costs part of your income, so match the fund to the time you can leave the money.

The risks to weigh

  • Price risk. Eurobond prices fall when yields rise. A fund's value can go down over months, not only up.
  • Concentration. Most of the assets depend on the Nigerian government and a few Nigerian issuers repaying dollar debt.
  • Fees. On $10,000, a 1.5% management fee is $150 a year; a 3.5% total expense ratio would be $350 (example only). Compare these with the fund's yield.
  • Not a deposit. Units are investments, not bank balances, and returns are not promised.
  • Reporting currency. ARM's factsheet shows performance in naira terms, which can make a dollar fund look stronger when the naira falls. Ask for dollar returns.

If you prefer to hold the bonds yourself, our guide to buying Nigerian Eurobonds through a UAE bank or broker explains why direct lots are much larger. Our Nigeria library compares the instruments in diaspora investment options.

Questions to put to the manager before you invest

  • Which bank accounts may I pay from, and may I redeem to a UAE account?
  • What is the minimum holding period, and what does early redemption cost?
  • What was the total expense ratio last year, and is there an incentive fee?
  • Are returns reported in dollars as well as naira?
  • How often is income distributed, or is it reinvested in units?
  • Who are the trustee and the custodian? ARM names STL Trustees and Rand Merchant Bank for its Eurobond Fund.

Write the answers down with the date. A fund's rules are in its trust deed and prospectus, which the manager should send on request.

Tax

The UAE does not levy income tax on individuals, according to the UAE government portal. How Nigeria treats distributions from a dollar fund to a non-resident is not spelt out on the pages we read; ask the manager what it deducts and see UAE residents and Nigerian investment income. This is information, not tax advice.

Where Pryme fits

Distributions and redemptions paid to a Nigerian dollar account can land in a Pryme Personal Account, which keeps dollars as dollars until you choose (multicurrency). From there you can send them on, seeing the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Can a UAE resident invest in a Nigerian dollar mutual fund?

Many managers accept Nigerians abroad after KYC, but each sets its own document rules. Ask the manager directly and check the fund is SEC-registered.

What is the minimum for a Nigerian dollar fund?

It varies. The Stanbic IBTC Dollar Fund page shows $100; the ARM Eurobond Fund factsheet shows $1,000.

How fast can I get my money out?

SEC rules require redemptions within five working days. Stanbic IBTC states three working days for online redemptions, up to $5,000 a day, with a penalty on income inside 182 days.

Are Nigerian dollar funds safe?

They carry price and credit risk tied mostly to Nigerian Eurobonds, and they are not bank deposits. Read the fund's factsheet and fees before investing.
