Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

NEPC registration: what a UK buyer should ask a supplier

An NEPC exporter certificate shows a Nigerian supplier is set up to export formally. What it proves, what it does not, and how to check it.

The short answer

A Nigerian company that exports commercially should hold an Exporter's Certificate from the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC). It is valid for 24 months at first and then renewed yearly, and banks ask for it before they will process the supplier's Form NXP. As a UK buyer, ask for a copy, check the company name matches the CAC record and your invoice, and check the expiry date before you pay.

When you start buying from a Nigerian supplier, you are relying on documents produced in another country by agencies you may never have heard of. The NEPC Exporter's Certificate is one of the simplest to ask for, and one of the most useful. It does not tell you the goods are good, but it tells you the business has gone through the formal route to export.

What NEPC registration is

NEPC is the Nigerian government agency that registers and promotes exporters. Its e-registration page (checked October 2026) sets out who can register and what it costs:

ItemWhat NEPC says
Who can registerLimited companies, cooperative societies, and government bodies or NGOs. No sole-trader category is listed.
Company documentsCAC certificate of incorporation, memorandum and articles, CAC status report, sealed board resolution to register with NEPC
New registration fee₦13,500, excluding Remita and bank charges
Renewal of an expired certificate₦7,500; late renewal (more than 3 months after expiry) ₦12,500
Validity24 months at first, then renewed annually
TurnaroundCertificate within 24 hours of complete documents and payment (NEPC service level agreement, March 2026)

Fees are the supplier's cost and may change; they are shown here so you can judge whether an excuse such as "the certificate is too expensive" holds up.

Why it matters to you as the buyer

  • It sits upstream of the export paperwork. Sterling Bank's export financing page says an exporter needs its NEPC Exporter's Certificate before it can raise Form NXP on the CBN trade system. Without an NXP, a formal commercial shipment is hard to make. See why your supplier needs an NXP form.
  • Regulators ask for it. NAFDAC's export guideline lists a copy of NEPC registration among the documents for an export certificate on regulated products such as processed food; see NAFDAC export certification.
  • It shows intent to export formally. A business that trades informally, or sends goods through couriers as personal parcels, is less likely to hold one.

What the certificate does not prove

Be clear about the limits. An NEPC certificate does not show that the supplier makes the product, that it can deliver the volume you want, that the goods meet UK food, cosmetic or product rules, or that the bank account on the invoice belongs to the company. Those need separate checks: samples, a factory or warehouse visit or video call, product test reports, and a payment call-back to a known number.

How to check a supplier's NEPC status

  1. Ask for a copy of the current Exporter's Certificate and note the certificate number and expiry date.
  2. Check the company name and RC number against the CAC public search, and against the name on your proforma invoice and the bank account; the steps are in checking a Nigerian supplier before your first payment.
  3. If anything does not match, contact NEPC through the contact details on nepc.gov.ng, not a number printed on the document you were sent.
  4. Diary the expiry date. A certificate that lapses mid-contract can hold up the next shipment.

Incentives your supplier may mention

Registered exporters may apply for NEPC's Export Expansion Grant. NEPC's grant page lists eligibility including CAC and NEPC registration, formal exports with proceeds repatriated, and a minimum annual export turnover of ₦5 million. The grant is paid as Export Credit Certificates the exporter can use against certain federal taxes. A supplier chasing this grant has a reason to keep its paperwork clean and to want your payment routed properly, which works in your favour. The Nigeria-side registration steps are explained in how to register as an exporter with NEPC.

Warning signs in the paperwork

  • The name on the certificate differs from the name on the invoice or bank account, even slightly.
  • The certificate has expired, or the supplier says it is "being renewed" for months; NEPC states a 24-hour turnaround once documents and payment are complete.
  • The supplier is a business name rather than a limited company and cannot explain how it exports formally, since NEPC lists no sole-trader category.
  • You are sent a photo of a certificate but the supplier will not give the number or let you contact NEPC.
  • Goods are offered "without paperwork" at a lower price. That usually means no NXP, no export certificates and a higher chance of problems at the UK border.

None of these proves fraud on its own, but each is a reason to slow down. Keep a short file for every supplier: CAC record, NEPC certificate with expiry, bank details confirmed by call-back, product test reports and samples received. Review it before each large order.

Where Pryme fits

Once a supplier checks out, paying it in the currency it invoices in is simpler from an account that already holds that currency. A Pryme Business Account holds GBP, USD, EUR and NGN, and the Compliance agent can keep supplier documents and expiry dates in one place for a person to review. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Does every Nigerian exporter need NEPC registration?

NEPC's e-registration page lists limited companies, cooperatives and government bodies or NGOs as entity types. Banks ask for the Exporter's Certificate before processing Form NXP, so a formal commercial exporter will normally hold one.

How long is an NEPC certificate valid?

NEPC says 24 months at first, then renewed annually. Late renewal, more than 3 months after expiry, costs more.

Can a sole trader in Nigeria get an NEPC certificate?

NEPC's page does not list a sole-proprietor category. If your supplier is a business name rather than a limited company, ask how it exports formally.

Does NEPC registration mean the goods meet UK rules?

No. It shows the business is registered to export. Food, cosmetics and other products still have to meet UK import and product rules.
