Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

NAFDAC registration for products you sell into Nigeria

Which products need NAFDAC registration before sale in Nigeria, who can hold the registration for a seller abroad, and how that choice affects you.

The short answer

Food, medicines, cosmetics, medical devices and other NAFDAC-regulated products cannot be imported, advertised or sold in Nigeria until each product is registered with NAFDAC. A seller abroad cannot apply alone: the applicant must be a company incorporated in Nigeria, acting under a notarised power of attorney from the manufacturer. Choosing whether that is your own Nigerian company or your distributor decides who controls your product's right to be sold.

Many businesses abroad want to sell into Nigeria as well as buy from it: skincare made in the UK, supplements from the US, baby products from Canada, packaged foods from Europe. If the product falls under NAFDAC, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, registration comes before the first sale. This guide explains which products need it and the decision that shapes everything else: who holds the registration. The application steps are in NAFDAC registration as a foreign manufacturer.

Which products need registration

NAFDAC's product guidelines are explicit. Examples from the guidelines read in October 2026:

Product groupWhat the guideline saysGuideline
CosmeticsNo cosmetic may be manufactured, imported, exported, advertised, sold or distributed in Nigeria unless registeredImported cosmetics guideline (2018 edition, clause 1.2)
FoodUnregistered food products may not be importedImported food guideline, effective 1 Mar 2021
MedicinesRegistration with a dossier, GMP inspection and a 5-year certificateImported drugs guideline, effective 20 Mar 2025
Medical devices, including diagnosticsNo device may be manufactured, imported or sold unless registeredMedical devices guideline, effective 10 Apr 2025

Other regulated groups include packaged water and chemicals; if your product touches the body, is eaten or drunk, or makes a health claim, assume NAFDAC is involved and check. Registration is per product: NAFDAC's online portal takes one application form per product. The cosmetics guideline adds that filing an application or paying the fee does not by itself confer registration, and that advertising needs a separate permit.

What registration does not cover

  • Products on the Federal Government import prohibition list or NAFDAC's ceiling list. The devices guideline says no new applications are accepted for those items.
  • Products for SONCAP. The Standards Organisation of Nigeria lists food, medicines and medical items other than equipment as exempt from SONCAP, because NAFDAC regulates them.
  • Import documentation. A NAFDAC permit is among the item permits banks list for Form M on food, chemicals and pharmaceuticals; see what Form M means for an overseas seller.

Who can apply for a seller abroad

Each guideline requires a Nigerian applicant: evidence of incorporation with the Corporate Affairs Commission, and a power of attorney from the manufacturer, notarised in the country of manufacture and valid for at least five years. The cosmetics guideline says the power of attorney states who owns the brand. In practice you have three options:

OptionAdvantagesRisks
Your own Nigerian companyYou hold the registrations; you can change distributors freelyCost and admin of a company in Nigeria; staff or agents needed for NAFDAC contact
Your distributor holds themFast; the distributor already has staff and a NAFDAC relationshipIf the relationship ends, your products may be tied to their registrations
A regulatory agent holds them for youSpecialist handling, separate from salesFees; you still need clear contract terms on transfer

Whichever route, your power of attorney and distribution contract should say the registrations are held for you and must be transferred or surrendered on request when the relationship ends. See key terms in a Nigerian distributor agreement and the pitfalls of a sole agent. Company formation is covered in how to register a private limited company in Nigeria.

Labels are part of registration

Labels are reviewed as part of the file, and for food NAFDAC vets labels before samples are sent. The Pre-Packaged Food, Water and Ice (Labelling) Regulations 2019 require, among other things, the product name in bold on the main panel, an ingredient list in descending order of weight, allergens such as peanuts, milk, eggs, fish, soy and gluten cereals always declared, net content in metric units, the name and address of the manufacturer or distributor, and the country of origin. A label designed for the UK or US market often needs changes before it is accepted.

Timelines to plan around

The guidelines publish target times once a complete application is in: 120 working days for imported food and 240 working days for imported medicines, with 90 days to close out any query NAFDAC raises. Certificates for food, medicines and cosmetics run for five years. Plan launch dates around these, not around shipping.

What to check first

  1. Confirm your product is not on the import prohibition or NAFDAC ceiling lists.
  2. Decide who will hold the registrations and put that in writing.
  3. Register your trade mark in Nigeria; the guidelines ask for it.
  4. Gather manufacturer documents that must be authenticated by a Nigerian mission.
  5. Budget for registration time before sales start.

Where Pryme fits

Once registered products sell, a Pryme Business Account can receive naira through local account details and hold it alongside USD, GBP and EUR, converting on Swap when you choose, with the rate and fee shown first. Invoicing helps you bill Nigerian distributors.

Questions people ask

Do I need NAFDAC registration to sell cosmetics in Nigeria?

Yes. NAFDAC's cosmetics guideline says no cosmetic may be imported, advertised, sold or distributed in Nigeria unless registered.

Can a foreign company register a product with NAFDAC?

Not directly. The applicant must be a company incorporated in Nigeria with a notarised power of attorney from the manufacturer.

How long does NAFDAC registration take for imported food?

The imported food guideline targets 120 working days once a complete application is in, with 90 days to resolve queries.

How long is a NAFDAC registration valid?

For food, medicines and cosmetics the guidelines give five years, after which it must be renewed.
