Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Monthly remittance deadlines for PAYE and pension

The monthly and annual dates a US-owned Nigerian employer must hit for PAYE, pension, NSITF and WHT, where the sources disagree and how to stay safe.

The short answer

Pension contributions must reach the employee's PFA custodian within seven working days of paying salary, and PAYE is due to the state revenue service by the 10th of the following month on PwC's reading (the 2025 Act runs penalties after the 21st). WHT deducted from suppliers goes to NRS by the 21st, and the employer's annual PAYE return is due by 31 January.

Pension: the tightest deadline

Under the Pension Reform Act 2014, the employer remits both its own contribution and the employee's deduction "not later than seven working days from the day the employee is paid his salary", with minimum rates of 10% from the employer and 8% from the employee of monthly emoluments (ThisDay summary, March 2023). PenCom's recovery framework adds that late remittance attracts a penalty set by the Commission of not less than 2% of the unpaid contributions for each month of default. The Act covers private employers with three or more employees, according to PenCom.

Seven working days is easy to miss when salaries are approved in the US. If payday in Lagos is the 25th, the pension transfer should be scheduled in the same approval batch, not left for the next month-end close. Our Nigeria library explains employer and employee pension rates in more detail.

PAYE: the 10th or the 21st?

This is where the sources disagree. PwC's Nigeria summary (reviewed 29 May 2026) still says PAYE is remitted on or before the 10th of the month after salaries are paid. The Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 s.107 runs penalties after the 21st. Until your state revenue service confirms in writing that it now accepts the 21st, pay by the 10th. The cost of being early is a few days of interest; the cost of being late is a penalty plus interest on the unpaid amount.

WHT and the annual returns

If the Nigerian entity pays local suppliers, it deducts withholding tax and remits it. PwC's highlights of the Deduction at Source Regulations 2024 give the 21st of the following month for NRS and the 30th for state revenue services, and the payer issues a receipt so the supplier can claim credit. Once a year the employer files the PAYE return of emoluments by 31 January; in Lagos that is Form H1 (see registering with LIRS).

Worked example: one payroll month

Example only. Salaries for October are paid on Friday 30 October.

  1. Pension for October: count seven working days from 30 October. Skipping weekends, that is Tuesday 10 November, earlier if a public holiday falls in between.
  2. PAYE for October: pay by 10 November to be safe; the Act's penalty date is after 21 November.
  3. WHT on October supplier payments: to NRS by 21 November.
  4. NSITF: the monthly employees' compensation contribution; confirm the due date on the employer self-service portal.

In this example, pension and PAYE land on the same day, which is why many teams pay both with the salary run.

What missing a date costs

The penalties stack because each obligation has its own regulator. A late pension remittance attracts PenCom's penalty of at least 2% a month on the unpaid amount, and PenCom can pursue the employer for the arrears through its recovery framework. Late PAYE attracts a percentage penalty and interest from the state revenue service. Late WHT remittance attracts 10% of the amount not remitted plus interest at the CBN Monetary Policy Rate, according to PwC's withholding tax summary. None of these depend on whether the US parent knew the date, and the same missed month can trigger all three.

Running it from the US

Delays usually come from approvals, not cash. A Lagos payroll that waits for a US controller's sign-off on the 5th of the month will struggle to pay pension within seven working days of a 30th payday. Three habits help: approve salary, pension and PAYE as one batch on payday; keep a naira balance that covers at least one month of statutory payments so you are not waiting on a conversion; and keep a single sheet listing each remittance, its receipt and the person who approved it, which is also what an auditor will ask for.

What to check first

  • Each employee's PFA and Retirement Savings Account PIN
  • Each employee's state of residence, which decides the PAYE authority
  • Who in the US approves payments, and whether that falls inside the seven-day window
  • Nigerian public holidays, which shorten the pension window (see holidays to plan for)

Where Pryme fits

The Compliance agent can keep this calendar and prepare the payments; with bulk payouts the salary, pension and PAYE transfers can go into one approval. A person approves above a set ceiling and every action is recorded.

Questions people ask

When should pension be remitted in Nigeria?

Within seven working days of the day the employee is paid, under the Pension Reform Act 2014. Late payment attracts a PenCom penalty of at least 2% of the unpaid amount per month.

Is PAYE due on the 10th or 21st in Nigeria?

PwC (May 2026) gives the 10th; the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 runs penalties after the 21st. Pay by the 10th until your state revenue service confirms otherwise.

When is the employer annual PAYE return due?

By 31 January for the previous year. In Lagos the return is Form H1 filed on the LIRS eTax portal.

When is WHT remitted in Nigeria?

By the 21st of the following month to NRS, and by the 30th to state revenue services for individual payees, under the Deduction at Source Regulations 2024.
