Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada

Malaria pills for a Nigeria trip from Canada: cost and cover

Who prescribes antimalarials in Canada, whether provincial plans or work benefits pay, and how to budget for a family trip to Nigeria.

The short answer

Canada's travel advice says malaria is a risk in Nigeria and antimalarial medication is recommended for most travellers, ideally discussed with a travel clinic about 6 weeks before departure (updated 21 October 2026). The prescription and the pills are usually paid privately or through a workplace drug plan rather than a provincial health plan; what you pay depends on the drug chosen, the length of the trip and your plan's terms.

Many Nigerians in Canada grew up with malaria and treat it as a nuisance. After a few years away, immunity fades, and children born in Canada have none. That is why Canada's official advice for Nigeria recommends antimalarials for most travellers. The real question is cost: who prescribes, who pays and how to budget.

What Canada's advice says

The Nigeria page of travel.gc.ca (updated 21 October 2026) says:

  • malaria is a risk in Nigeria
  • antimalarial medication is recommended for most travellers
  • consult a health professional or travel clinic, ideally 6 weeks before travel
  • protect yourself from mosquito bites as well

Antimalarials are prescription medicines in Canada. A travel clinic, family doctor or, in some provinces, a pharmacist can assess you and prescribe.

Who pays: three layers

Provincial plans

Provincial health plans are built around doctor and hospital care for residents. Outpatient prescriptions are a separate matter: public drug programmes differ by province and are mostly aimed at particular groups rather than everyone. Whether a travel prescription qualifies depends on the programme. The travel clinic consultation itself is often charged privately. Ask your clinic and pharmacy before you go.

Workplace benefits

This is where most families recover the cost. Many group drug plans cover prescription antimalarials like any other prescription, subject to the plan's co-payment and annual maximum. Check your benefits booklet or app for the drug name and whether travel medicines are excluded.

Out of pocket

Without a plan, you pay the pharmacy's price. The total depends on which drug is prescribed, the daily or weekly dose, the number of days before, during and after the trip it must be taken, and the dispensing fee.

How to budget

Ask the prescriber which drug suits each traveller, then ask the pharmacy for the price of the full course. The course is longer than the trip: depending on the drug, you start before arrival and continue after you return.

Example: family of four, three-week trip (CAD)Example
Travel clinic consultation60
Adult course x 2 at 90180
Children's course x 2 at 50100
Dispensing fees, 4 x 1248
Insect repellent, nets40
Total before any plan428
Plan reimburses 80% of drugs and fees (328)-262.40
Family pays165.60

These are examples only. Check: 180 + 100 + 48 = 328; 80% of 328 = 262.40; 60 + 328 + 40 = 428; 428 - 262.40 = 165.60.

Buying in Nigeria instead

Some travellers plan to buy medicine in Nigeria. NAFDAC, Nigeria's regulator, publishes ways to check that a medicine is registered and authentic, including its Greenbook of approved medicines and scratch-code checks on antimalarials (as reported by Dubawa in June 2023). Treatment medicines bought locally are not a substitute for the preventive course a Canadian prescriber recommends, and the prescriber should know about anything else you plan to take.

Pills are one part of prevention

Canada's advice pairs antimalarials with protection from bites, because no tablet is fully protective. The usual measures are simple and cheap:

  • insect repellent on exposed skin, reapplied as directed
  • long sleeves and trousers in the evening
  • sleeping under a net or in a screened, air-conditioned room
  • checking that a child's dose is taken every day, or every week, as prescribed, including the days after returning

Visiting family, not a hotel

Trips home are often longer than holidays, spent in family houses rather than hotels, and include visits to villages outside Lagos and Abuja. Tell the prescriber where you will stay and for how long, since the plan should fit the trip you will actually take. Canada's advice also notes that health care is very limited in rural areas, which is another reason to prevent rather than treat.

If someone falls ill after the trip

Fever after returning from Nigeria needs urgent medical attention: tell the doctor you were in Nigeria. Keep receipts for medicines and clinic visits for any insurance claim.

What to check first

  1. Book a travel consultation about 6 weeks before the flight.
  2. Ask which drug and for how many days, per traveller.
  3. Check your benefits booklet for coverage.
  4. Buy the full course before you leave.
  5. Pack bite protection too.

Where Pryme fits

Plan trip spending in one place: see the December trip budget and yellow fever vaccine costs. A Pryme account holds naira for the visit, and you can send naira to family before you land.

Questions people ask

Do I need malaria pills for Nigeria if I grew up there?

Canada's travel advice recommends antimalarials for most travellers to Nigeria. Immunity fades after years away, so discuss it with a travel clinic.

Does OHIP pay for malaria pills?

Provincial plans such as OHIP centre on doctor and hospital care; drug cover runs through separate public programmes with their own rules. Check with your pharmacy and any workplace plan.

Does my work insurance cover antimalarials?

Many group drug plans do, subject to co-pays and limits. Check your plan booklet for the drug name.

When should I start malaria pills before travelling?

It depends on the drug; the prescriber will tell you. See a clinic ideally 6 weeks before departure.
