Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Make money

Living alone in Nigeria on ₦200,000: a budget

A labelled single-person budget on ₦200,000 take-home: yearly rent spread monthly, transport, food and utilities, and the trade-offs that make it hold.

The short answer

Living alone on ₦200,000 a month is possible in most Nigerian cities only if rent stays near a third of pay and transport is kept down. In our labelled example a ₦900,000 yearly room (₦75,000 a month), average bus fares and a basic food basket leave about ₦27,000 for everything else, so something has to give: a shorter commute, cheaper food or a shared flat.

The three big lines

For a single person in a city, rent, transport and food take most of the money. Get those three right and the rest is small; get them wrong and no amount of cutting data or toiletries will save the month.

Rent, spread monthly

Most landlords want rent yearly. In Lagos, the Tenancy Law 2011 makes it unlawful to demand more than one year in advance from a new tenant, according to Ownkey's July 2026 summary of section 4. Treat the yearly rent as a monthly bill: a ₦900,000 room is ₦75,000 a month, which must be saved every month to be ready for renewal.

Transport

The NBS Transport Fare Watch for February 2026 put the average within-city bus fare at ₦1,195.75 per trip and the average okada fare at ₦920.95, as reported by The Guardian. Two bus trips a day for 20 working days is ₦47,830 before weekends.

Food

Our food budget guide builds a one-person basket from NBS prices at about ₦61,000 a month for someone who cooks almost everything. A tighter version with less protein is about ₦45,000 to ₦50,000.

First draft: the numbers do not work (labelled example)

LineMonthly
Rent (₦900,000 a year)₦75,000
Transport (40 bus trips)₦47,830
Food₦50,000
Subtotal₦172,830
Left for everything else₦27,170

₦27,170 has to cover electricity, water, cooking gas, data, toiletries, family requests and savings. Electricity depends on your band and usage; the revised budget below allows ₦10,000 as an example. There is no room for an emergency.

What has to give

  • Live closer to work. Halving the commute saves more than any other cut in this budget, even if rent is a little higher.
  • Share a flat. Splitting a ₦900,000 two-bedroom with one flatmate halves rent to ₦37,500 a month.
  • Cook more and buy staples in bulk. Moving from ₦50,000 to ₦45,000 on food is realistic for most people.
  • Cut the extras in turn: data plan, eating out, subscriptions.

Revised budget (labelled example)

Same rent, but a room on a shorter route with one bus each way on most days.

LineMonthly
Rent (₦900,000 a year)₦75,000
Transport₦24,000
Food₦45,000
Electricity₦10,000
Water and cooking gas₦6,000
Phone and data₦6,000
Toiletries and household₦5,000
Family and giving₦6,000
Savings and emergency₦15,000
Fun and other₦8,000
Total₦200,000

This version saves ₦15,000 a month, ₦180,000 a year, enough to start an emergency fund. It still assumes the first year's rent has been paid. If it has not, the first priority is building that lump; see first-salary budget.

Is ₦200,000 the right income to move out on?

It depends on rent where you work. If a decent room near work is well under ₦900,000 a year, ₦200,000 can support a modest single life with savings. If the nearest affordable room is far from work, the commute erodes the gain. Many people find that waiting until pay rises, or moving with a flatmate, gives a safer first year than stretching alone. Run both versions of the budget before signing anything.

Building the first year's rent

The monthly set-aside only works once you have paid the first year. If you are still living at home or sharing, the cleanest route is to save the full rent before moving. At ₦75,000 a month, a ₦900,000 rent takes 12 months to build. Saving at that rate while still at home also proves to yourself that the budget is affordable: if you cannot manage ₦75,000 a month now, the rent will strain you later.

Avoid borrowing for rent if you can. A rent loan adds a monthly repayment on top of the monthly set-aside you need for next year, so for twelve months you are paying for two years of rent at once.

A month-end check

  1. Did the rent pot grow by the full amount?
  2. Which line went over, and by how much?
  3. Was the overspend a one-off or a pattern?
  4. Is anything due in the next three months, such as a gas refill, a repair or a family event?
  5. Has any price changed enough to adjust a line?

Five minutes at the end of each month keeps the budget on track without turning it into a chore.

Costs people forget

  • Agreement, agency and caution fees when you first move in; ask for them in writing before paying.
  • Service charge or estate dues, if any.
  • Furniture, a mattress, a gas cylinder and cooking pots in the first months.
  • Waste collection and security levies.
  • Prices rising through the year: the NBS put headline inflation at 14.63% in September 2026.

Where Pryme fits

A Fixed Savings Box in naira can hold the monthly rent set-aside until renewal, and electricity and data can be paid in the app. For the full plan at this income, see how to budget a ₦200,000 salary.

Questions people ask

Can I live alone in Lagos on ₦200,000?

It is tight. It works only if rent is close to a third of pay and the commute is short; otherwise sharing or living closer to work is needed.

How much rent can I afford on ₦200,000 salary?

As a guide, keep yearly rent around ₦900,000 or less, which is ₦75,000 a month, and save it monthly.

How much is transport per month in Nigeria?

The NBS February 2026 average within-city bus fare was ₦1,195.75 per trip, so 40 trips cost about ₦47,830.

Is it cheaper to share a flat in Nigeria?

Usually. Splitting rent with one flatmate can halve your biggest bill.
