Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Laptop repair business: tools, training and what to charge

The tool kit a Nigerian laptop repairer needs, how to learn the trade, the jobs that come in most and how to price each one.

The short answer

A working laptop repair bench in Nigeria can be equipped for a few hundred thousand naira: screwdrivers, a soldering station, a hot air rework station, a multimeter, anti-static gear and a bench power supply. Most income comes from software reinstalls, screens, keyboards, batteries, charging ports and cleaning, priced as labour plus parts. Skills are learnt either as an apprentice under an experienced technician or through a paid course, and the two work best together.

What the work actually is

Laptop repair splits into two levels. Board-level repair means finding a faulty chip, capacitor or charging circuit on the motherboard and replacing it with a soldering iron or hot air station. Module-level repair means swapping whole parts: a cracked screen, a dead battery, a keyboard with stuck keys, a loose charging port, a failed hard drive. Software jobs sit alongside both: reinstalling Windows, removing malware, recovering files and moving data to a new drive.

Module and software work is where most new repairers start, because it needs fewer tools and less risk. Board-level work pays more per job but takes longer to learn and can destroy a customer's laptop if done badly. Plan to earn from the first level while you build the second.

The tool kit and what it costs

Prices below are an example budget for a one-person bench, not quotes. Tool prices move with the naira, so price each item yourself before you buy.

ItemWhy you need itExample cost (₦)
Precision screwdriver set (Phillips, Torx, pentalobe)Opening every brand without stripping screws15,000
Temperature-controlled soldering stationCharging ports, connectors, small components45,000
Hot air rework stationRemoving and refitting surface-mount chips70,000
Digital multimeterTesting voltage, continuity and shorts12,000
Anti-static mat and wrist strapProtecting boards from static damage15,000
Bench DC power supplyPowering a board safely and spotting shorts by current draw50,000
Bootable USB drives, SATA and NVMe adaptorsReinstalls, cloning and data recovery20,000
Consumables (flux, solder, thermal paste, isopropyl alcohol)Cleaning and every soldering job15,000
Magnifier lamp, table and stoolSeeing small parts; working for hours40,000
Starter parts float (batteries, keyboards, chargers)Finishing common jobs the same day100,000

The example totals ₦382,000. Without the parts float it is ₦282,000, and many technicians start that way, buying parts only after a customer pays a deposit. A microscope, a BGA rework machine and a programmer for BIOS chips come later, once board-level jobs justify them.

How to learn: apprenticeship, courses or both

Apprenticeship under an experienced technician

In large phone and computer markets, such as Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos, many repairers learn by working under an established technician. Terms are agreed privately: some masters charge a fee, some take you free in exchange for work, and the length varies. The strength of this route is volume. You see dozens of real faults a week and learn how customers behave and how parts are sourced. The weakness is that teaching depends on the master, and theory can be thin.

Paid courses

Private training centres run laptop and hardware repair courses, from short practical classes to longer programmes. Ask to see the workshop, how many hours you will spend with tools in hand, and what you will be able to fix at the end. International certificates such as CompTIA A+ cover hardware and operating system basics and help when you later apply to service companies or corporate IT contracts, but they do not teach board-level repair.

A common path is a short course for the basics, then six months or more beside an experienced technician to build speed.

Common jobs and how to price them

Charge labour plus parts, and say both numbers before you start. The figures below are examples to show the structure; rates differ between Ikeja, Wuse and a neighbourhood shop, so ask around before you set yours.

JobHow it is usually pricedExample labour (₦)
Windows reinstall with driversFlat fee; data backup extra8,000–15,000
Dust cleaning and thermal pasteFlat fee10,000–15,000
Keyboard replacementLabour plus keyboard10,000–20,000
Screen replacementLabour plus panel (the panel is most of the bill)10,000–20,000
Battery replacementLabour plus battery5,000–10,000
Charging port (DC jack) repairLabour plus part; soldered ports cost more15,000–25,000
Liquid damage or no-power faultDiagnosis fee first, then a quoteDiagnosis 5,000; quote after

Two rules protect your margin. Take a diagnosis fee for no-power and liquid-damage laptops, because many will not be worth repairing and you still spent an hour. And take a parts deposit before ordering a screen or board, because a customer who disappears leaves you holding a part made for one model.

A worked month

Example only. A one-person shop in a busy area completes 30 software jobs at ₦10,000 (₦300,000), 15 hardware jobs at ₦15,000 labour (₦225,000) and earns ₦8,000 margin on each of 10 parts sold (₦80,000). Gross income: ₦605,000.

  • Shop space or shared stall: ₦50,000
  • Generator petrol: 3 litres a day for 26 days is 78 litres. At the NBS national average of ₦1,596.25 a litre (as at May 2026), call it ₦1,596, so about ₦124,488
  • Internet data: ₦15,000
  • Consumables: ₦20,000

Costs total ₦209,488, leaving ₦395,512 before your own pay, tax and saving for new tools. Power is the line that moves most; check today's pump price where you buy, and read how to work out generator fuel cost per month.

What to check first

  1. Register a business name with CAC so you can open a business account and sign service contracts; the CAC fee schedule (May 2025) lists business name registration at ₦20,000, which includes a certified true copy of the registration documents. See how to register a business name.
  2. Find two reliable parts suppliers and compare prices for the five models you see most.
  3. Write a simple job card: customer name, laptop model and serial, fault described, items left (charger, bag), price agreed, deposit paid.
  4. Decide your warranty on parts and labour, in writing.
  5. Never browse a customer's files, and get written consent before data recovery.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account gives you a bank-transfer checkout (free) for deposits and final payments, and you can issue a regular or verifiable receipt through our partnership with VerifyDoc.ai, which helps when a customer later claims a warranty (receipts). If you also plan to teach, see our guide to a computer training centre.

Questions people ask

How much does it cost to start laptop repair business in Nigeria?

An example one-person bench comes to about ₦282,000 in tools, or ₦382,000 with a small stock of batteries, keyboards and chargers. Price each tool yourself before buying, because prices follow the naira.

How long does it take to learn laptop repairs?

Basic module and software work can be learnt in weeks with practice. Board-level repair usually takes many months beside an experienced technician. There is no fixed period; it depends on how many real faults you handle.

How much do technicians charge to change a laptop screen?

Most charge labour plus the screen panel, and the panel is the larger part of the bill. Our example labour is ₦10,000 to ₦20,000, but rates vary by area, so check local prices.

Do I need a certificate to repair laptops in Nigeria?

No specific licence was found for laptop repair. A business name registration with CAC helps you open a business account and win company contracts, and certificates such as CompTIA A+ help with corporate clients.
