Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Building permit for your Lagos house: getting it from abroad

The Lagos planning permit and building control approvals your house needs, how the online EPPPS system works from abroad, and what a representative does.

The short answer

A Lagos house needs a planning permit from the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) and then building control approvals from the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) to start work, at each construction stage and for completion and fitness for habitation. Since 1 April 2026, Lagos says planning permit applications go only through its online EPPPS system and can be made from anywhere. Your architect or a representative with a power of attorney usually handles the site-facing steps.

Building in Lagos without the right approvals can end with a sealed site or a demolition notice, and you may not hear until the damage is done. The good news for owners abroad is that Lagos has moved planning applications online. This guide sets out the approvals, the documents and who does what. It is general information; check current requirements with LASPPPA and LASBCA or a registered professional.

Two agencies, two jobs

StageAgencyWhat it covers
Planning permitLASPPPAWhether the building, its use and its design are allowed on that plot
Authorisation to commenceLASBCAPermission to start construction
Stage certificationLASBCAInspections at foundation, damp-proof course, lintel and roofing
Certificate of Completion and Fitness for HabitationLASBCANeeded before the building is occupied, sold or let

This sequence is set out in an Ownkey guide of 21 July 2026, a secondary source. The 2024 enforcement shows LASBCA's role is real: after a building collapse in Maryland, People's Gazette reported on 27 July 2024 that Lagos revoked all commencement certifications with immediate effect, required revalidation at LASBCA, said occupying a building without LASBCA certification is a criminal offence, and limited construction hours to 7am to 7pm.

Applying from abroad: EPPPS

Nairametrics reported on 22 July 2026 that Lagos's Electronic Planning Permit Processing System (EPPPS) became fully automated from 1 April 2026, that applications are processed only through EPPPS, that manual processing ended, and that approvals can be obtained online "from anywhere". The report did not give the URL, fees or timelines, so get those from LASPPPA or your architect when you start.

Documents usually needed

The Ownkey guide lists, for a typical residential application:

  • The application form.
  • Architectural drawings (four copies are mentioned) stamped by a registered architect.
  • Structural drawings and calculations for multi-storey buildings, stamped by a registered engineer.
  • The survey plan of the plot.
  • Title documents, and a land registry search report.

Under the Architects (Registration, etc.) Act, only architects registered under the Act may take full responsibility for building plans, so your drawings should come from a registered architect. If your title is not yet in order, fix that first; see building on family land from abroad.

Insurance checks on approval

Two insurance rules apply to building work. Section 64 of the Insurance Act (as printed in the 2004 Laws of the Federation) requires insurance against construction-risk liability for buildings of more than two floors. A Nairametrics summary of the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act 2025 says section 75 makes builders' liability insurance compulsory for buildings under construction and that building control authorities should verify cover before approval. Ask your contractor or broker for the policy before work starts; insuring a house in Nigeria from abroad has more.

What your representative does

  1. Gets a specific power of attorney from you to deal with LASPPPA and LASBCA; see power of attorney signed abroad.
  2. Works with your architect to submit on EPPPS and respond to queries.
  3. Keeps the approved plan and permit on site.
  4. Books LASBCA stage inspections at each milestone and collects the certificates.
  5. Applies for the Certificate of Completion and Fitness for Habitation at the end.

Pay the professional who files for you a fixed fee and pay government charges directly to the official channel, with receipts in your name or the owner's name on the title.

Planning the timeline from abroad

Neither the Nairametrics report nor the Ownkey guide gives processing times, so build slack into your plans. A sensible order is to settle title and survey first, commission drawings, submit on EPPPS, and only then book the contractor. If you are timing the build around a trip home, aim to be in Nigeria for the foundation stage, when setting-out errors are easiest to catch and cheapest to fix. Ask your architect for a written list of every approval, the expected date for each and who is responsible, and review it on each call. Keep scans of every approval in a shared folder you control, not only on the contractor's phone.

Common mistakes

  • Starting the foundation while the permit is "processing".
  • Building a different design from the approved plan, such as an extra floor.
  • Paying a fixer to "handle approvals" without receipts from the agency.
  • Skipping stage certification, then finding the building cannot be certified fit for habitation.
  • Letting or selling before the completion certificate.

For managing the build itself, see contractor or direct labour, and for the money side the Nigeria-side guide to building a house from abroad.

Where Pryme fits

Permit fees and professional charges are naira bills. Paying them from your Pryme account and keeping verifiable receipts gives you a record you can show LASBCA, a buyer or a bank later.

Questions people ask

Can I apply for a Lagos building permit from abroad?

Yes. Lagos says planning permit applications go through its online EPPPS system from 1 April 2026 and can be made from anywhere. An architect or representative handles site steps.

What is the difference between LASPPPA and LASBCA?

LASPPPA issues the planning permit. LASBCA authorises the start of work, certifies construction stages and issues the completion and fitness for habitation certificate.

Can I occupy my Lagos house without a completion certificate?

Lagos said in 2024 that occupying a building without LASBCA certification is a criminal offence. Get the certificate before moving in, letting or selling.

Who can prepare building plans in Nigeria?

Under the Architects (Registration, etc.) Act, only registered architects may take full responsibility for building plans.
