Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Italy

Prepaid card with IBAN in Italy: receiving money from abroad

Can a carta conto such as Postepay Evolution receive money from Nigeria? SEPA versus SWIFT, plafond limits and what to check first.

The short answer

A carta conto has an IBAN and can receive bank transfers, but Nigeria is outside the SEPA area, so a payment from a Nigerian bank arrives as an international (SWIFT) transfer. Whether your card accepts that, and what it costs, is set in the product's information sheet: Poste Italiane's Postepay Evolution page, for example, confirms the IBAN and a €30,000 plafond but does not say whether non-SEPA transfers are accepted.

Many Nigerians in Italy start with a carta conto: a prepaid card with an IBAN, cheaper and quicker to open than a full current account. It works well for salary and domestic transfers. Money from Nigeria is a different case.

SEPA and SWIFT: why the sender's country matters

Transfers between banks in the SEPA area (the EU and some neighbouring countries) are standard euro payments. Nigeria is not in SEPA, so a transfer from a Nigerian bank to an Italian IBAN travels as an international SWIFT payment, often through one or more intermediary banks. Some prepaid card products accept only SEPA credits; others accept SWIFT credits with a fee.

What Poste Italiane's page says about Postepay Evolution

Postepay Evolution is the best-known example. Poste Italiane's product page (undated, checked Oct 2026) says:

  • It is a card "con IBAN associato" for receiving transfers and salary; salary or pension crediting is free.
  • The annual fee is €19.00 and the issue fee €5.00.
  • The plafond is €30,000, with a total of €100,000 across all Postepay Evolution cards held by the same person.
  • You can apply online with SPID or Poste credentials, or at a post office.

The page does not say whether transfers from outside SEPA are accepted, or what they cost. Those terms sit in the Foglio Informativo linked from the page. Read it, or ask at a post office, before giving the IBAN to a sender in Nigeria.

What can go wrong

  1. The transfer is rejected. If the product does not accept SWIFT credits, the money goes back, minus the sending and intermediary charges.
  2. Deductions on the way. Intermediary banks may take a charge, so less arrives than was sent. See Italian bank fees on money from Nigeria.
  3. The plafond. A large payment, such as savings or a sale, can run into the card's limit. On Postepay Evolution the plafond is €30,000.
  4. Questions about the source. A large or unusual credit may lead to a request for documents explaining it.
  5. Name checks. Some providers hold payments when names cannot be matched. Wise's help centre, for example, says a transfer involving a joint account can be paused until a statement showing the holders' names is approved.

Worked example (illustration only)

A sender in Lagos sends €500 from a domiciliary account by SWIFT. Suppose the sending bank charges its own fee and an intermediary bank deducts €15 on the way. If your card accepts SWIFT credits, €485 arrives, less any incoming charge in the card's Foglio Informativo. If it does not, the payment is returned, and the sender may get back less than €500 because the charges are not refunded. The figures here are only for illustration; real charges depend on the banks involved.

Steps before you share your IBAN

  1. Download the Foglio Informativo for your card and find the section on incoming transfers from abroad.
  2. If it is unclear, ask in writing (app chat or email) whether a SWIFT transfer from Nigeria in euros or dollars will be credited, and at what cost.
  3. Tell the sender to send in euros if the card cannot hold dollars, to avoid a forced conversion.
  4. Give your full name, IBAN and, if asked, the BIC exactly as shown in your card's app.
  5. Ask the sender for the SWIFT confirmation (MT103 or equivalent) so the payment can be traced if it is delayed.

When a current account is the better choice

If you expect regular or large payments from Nigeria, such as rent from a property, the proceeds of a sale or a family contribution towards a purchase in Italy, a full current account is usually easier. Current accounts more commonly accept international transfers, have higher limits and give you statements a lender or landlord will accept. Keep the carta conto for everyday spending.

Ways around it

What to check first

Incoming non-SEPA transfers
Accepted or not, and the fee (Foglio Informativo).
Plafond
The maximum the card can hold or receive.
Currency
Whether a payment sent in dollars is converted, and at what margin.
Name match
The sender should use your name exactly as on the card account.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account gives you NGN account details, so a relative in Nigeria can pay you in naira as a local transfer, and EUR details for euro payments. You choose when to convert with Swap; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. See multicurrency accounts.

Questions people ask

Can I receive money from Nigeria on Postepay Evolution?

It has an IBAN, but Poste's product page does not say whether non-SEPA (SWIFT) transfers are accepted. Check the Foglio Informativo or ask at a post office first.

What is the Postepay Evolution limit?

Poste Italiane's page gives a plafond of €30,000, and €100,000 in total across all Postepay Evolution cards held by the same person.

Why did my transfer from Nigeria come back?

A card that accepts only SEPA credits will reject an international SWIFT transfer. The sender may lose the sending and intermediary charges.

Is a carta conto the same as a bank account?

It is a prepaid account with an IBAN, usually with fewer features and lower limits than a current account.
