Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Italy

Receiving money from Nigeria into an Italian bank account

How money from Nigeria reaches an Italian IBAN: the SWIFT route, the exact details to give the sender, and the charges Italian banks list on arrival.

The short answer

Money from Nigeria reaches an Italian account as an international (extra-SEPA) SWIFT transfer, usually in dollars or euros sent from the sender's Nigerian domiciliary account, because naira itself cannot be wired abroad. Give the sender your name exactly as on the account, your IBAN, your bank's BIC and the purpose; expect your Italian bank to charge for incoming extra-SEPA transfers, for example €10.50 for euros and €15.00 for other currencies plus a 2 per mille commission (minimum €3.50) on one Banco BPM group tariff dated June 2025.

Parents selling land, a sibling repaying a loan, a business partner settling an invoice, or your own savings coming over: at some point money needs to move from Nigeria into your Italian conto corrente. It is possible, but it is not like a SEPA transfer within Europe, and both ends charge.

The route money takes

Nigerian banks cannot send naira abroad as naira. The sender needs foreign currency first. In practice there are two starting points:

  • From a Nigerian domiciliary account (USD, EUR or GBP). Under the CBN's Foreign Exchange Manual 2026, holders of self-funded domiciliary accounts can make telegraphic transfers of up to $10,000 a day without Form A, according to Pavestones Legal's summary on Mondaq.
  • From naira, by first buying foreign currency for an eligible purpose through a bank or BDC (for example personal travel allowance, school fees or medical bills, each with its own limits and documents), then sending it. This route is narrower and slower.

The transfer travels on SWIFT from the Nigerian bank, often through one or more correspondent (intermediary) banks, to your Italian bank. Nigeria is outside the SEPA area, so the Italian bank treats it as a bonifico estero extra-SEPA.

The details to give the sender

  1. Your full name exactly as it appears on the Italian account (intestatario).
  2. Your IBAN, which starts with IT.
  3. Your bank's BIC/SWIFT code and branch address. Ask your bank or check your online banking.
  4. The currency: if your account is in euros, ask the sender to send euros where possible, so your bank does not convert.
  5. A clear purpose, such as "family support" or "proceeds of sale of land". Banks at both ends may ask about it.
  6. The charges option: OUR (sender pays all charges), SHA (each side pays its own bank) or BEN (charges deducted from the amount).

What your Italian bank charges

Italian banks publish their prices in a foglio informativo in the Trasparenza section of their website. Charges vary widely between banks. As one real example, Banca Aletti's sheet for private-banking consumer accounts (Banco BPM group, updated 16 June 2025) lists:

Incoming transferCharge (spese)CommissionValue date
SEPA (EU/EEA, in euros)€0.00None listed0 business days
Extra-SEPA in euros€10.502 per mille, min €3.500 business days
Extra-SEPA in foreign currency€15.002 per mille, min €3.504 business days with conversion

If the money arrives in dollars and your account is in euros, your bank converts it at its own rate. The Banca Aletti sheet does not state the margin, so ask for it. For how to read your own bank's sheet, see Italian bank fees on money received from Nigeria.

Checks on arrival

Italian banks must carry out customer due diligence under anti-money-laundering rules. The Banca d'Italia's provisions require it for occasional transfers of funds above €1,000 and let banks ask, on a risk basis, where the money comes from. Nigeria was removed from the EU's list of high-risk third countries with effect from 29 January 2026, which removes the automatic enhanced checks for Nigeria-linked transactions, but a large or unusual credit can still trigger questions. Keep the story and the paperwork ready; see source of funds checks.

If the money does not arrive

Ask the sender for the bank's SWIFT confirmation of the transfer, which shows the amount, the charges option and a unique reference. Give it to your Italian bank so it can trace the payment through the correspondent banks. If the name or IBAN was wrong, the money is usually returned to the sender, less charges, rather than lost.

What to check first

  • Does your account accept incoming foreign currency, and what does it charge?
  • Can the sender send euros rather than dollars?
  • Does the sender have foreign currency in a domiciliary account, or only naira?
  • Is the purpose and the paperwork clear for both banks?

Where Pryme fits

If family in Nigeria hold naira, they can pay into your Pryme naira details as a local transfer. Your naira stays in naira until you choose to Swap it to euros in the same account, with the rate and fee shown before you approve, and the euros can then go to your Italian IBAN. See Swap, multicurrency accounts and family in Nigeria sending money to Italy.

Questions people ask

Can someone in Nigeria send money to my Italian bank account?

Yes, as an international SWIFT transfer, usually in dollars or euros from a Nigerian domiciliary account. Naira cannot be wired abroad as naira.

What details do I give for a transfer from Nigeria to Italy?

Your full name as on the account, IBAN, your bank's BIC/SWIFT code and address, the currency, and the purpose of the payment.

How much do Italian banks charge for money from Nigeria?

It varies by bank. One Banco BPM group private-banking tariff (June 2025) lists €10.50 for incoming extra-SEPA euros and €15.00 for other currencies, plus 2 per mille (minimum €3.50).

How long does a transfer from Nigeria to Italy take?

Usually a few business days, depending on the correspondent banks. On the tariff above, foreign-currency credits needing conversion carry a 4-business-day value date.
