Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

OPay loan: is it real, who lends it and how it works

OPay is a payments app; credit shown inside it comes from a lending partner named in the terms. How it works, what the registers show and what to check.

The short answer

Credit offers inside the OPay app are real, but OPay is a payments and wallet company, and the loan itself is provided by a lending institution named in the loan terms, which has commonly been Blue Ridge Microfinance Bank (the lender behind OKash). We did not find OPay or Blue Ridge by name on the FCCPC approved digital lenders list in October 2026, so read the terms, confirm the lender on the CBN directory and judge the cost from the offer screen.

OPay is not the lender

Millions of Nigerians use OPay for transfers, bills and POS payments. When a loan or credit option appears in the app, it is easy to assume OPay is lending. In practice, payment and wallet companies in Nigeria provide the channel, and a licensed lender, such as a microfinance bank, provides the credit. In OPay’s case that lender has commonly been Blue Ridge Microfinance Bank, which is also associated with OKash. The loan terms in the app are where the lender is named; read them.

This affects you in three ways: who you owe, which regulator oversees the loan, and where to complain. A microfinance bank is licensed and supervised by the CBN. Look its name up on the CBN microfinance bank list.

Not finding a bank-backed lender on the FCCPC list does not on its own mean it is unlawful; we could not determine from the page whether CBN-licensed lenders are expected to appear. If this matters to you, ask the FCCPC directly. What the table does show is the risk of lookalike names such as "OPP Cash".

How OPay credit typically works

  1. An offer appears in the app if the lender’s assessment of your account and history supports it. Not everyone sees one.
  2. You see an amount, a tenor and a repayment amount, with the terms.
  3. You accept, and the money is paid into your OPay wallet.
  4. On the due date, repayment is collected from your wallet or linked methods as the terms describe.

If no option appears, see why the OPay loan option is missing. Once an offer appears, the steps above are all there is: no agent, form or fee is involved.

Reading the cost

The rate depends on your profile and is shown before you accept. Our article on OPay loan interest rates and limits explains the parts of the offer screen. Whatever the figure, convert it into the total naira you will repay.

Worked example: wallet balance on the due date (illustrative)

Say you accept an example ₦50,000 for 30 days with ₦5,500 in charges, so ₦55,500 is due. On the due date your wallet holds ₦32,000. If the terms allow partial collection, ₦32,000 is taken and ₦23,500 remains overdue, which may attract late charges under the terms. Planning to have the full ₦55,500 in the wallet the day before avoids that.

Should you borrow from a wallet app at all?

Credit inside a wallet you already use is convenient, which is exactly why it needs care. The offer appears where you spend, and accepting takes a few taps. Before accepting, ask yourself three questions. Is this for something that cannot wait until payday? Will the repayment come from money that is already certain to arrive before the due date? Would I still take it if I had to walk into a branch and sign? If the answer to any is no, waiting is usually cheaper.

Watch for overlapping loans too. Many borrowers hold credit from two or three apps at once, and each due date looks manageable alone. Write all due dates and amounts on one list. If the total in any week is more than you can cover, repay or decline before adding another loan. Repaying on time also helps your record with the credit bureaus that Nigerian lenders consult, which affects every future offer.

If you have already borrowed and repayment is going wrong, see OPay loan customer care and repayment for the official channels.

Scams that use the OPay name

  • Messages offering an "OPay loan" if you pay a registration fee first.
  • Callers asking for your OPay PIN or OTP to "activate" credit.
  • Websites and apps with OPay-style logos but a different developer name.
  • Fake customer care numbers on social media comments.

Read how to check a loan app on the FCCPC register to verify any lender on your own.

Complaints

Raise a problem first through OPay’s in-app support and keep the ticket number. If the loan is from a microfinance bank and the answer does not resolve it, you can escalate to the CBN’s consumer protection channel; for conduct such as harassment, the FCCPC handles complaints. Our guide to complaining about a bank or fintech sets out the order.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme keeps payments and credit visibly separate. Loans on Spaces name the lender, Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, are spent only with Spaces merchants, and are drawn only after you accept the agreement.

Questions people ask

Does OPay give loans?

Credit can appear inside the OPay app, but it is provided by a lending institution named in the loan terms, commonly Blue Ridge Microfinance Bank. Not every user sees an offer.

Is OPay loan approved by CBN?

OPay is regulated by the CBN as a payments company, and the lender behind its credit should be a licensed institution. Check the lender named in your terms on the CBN directory.

Is OPay loan the same as OKash?

They are commonly linked through Blue Ridge Microfinance Bank, but they are presented as separate products. Your loan terms show which lender you owe.

What happens if I don’t repay OPay loan?

Late charges set out in the terms may apply, collection may be taken from your wallet, and the default can be reported to credit bureaus.
