Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Arab Emirates

Invoicing Nigerian clients as a freelancer in the UAE

What a UAE freelancer's invoice to a Nigerian company should show: licence and TRN, currency, VAT line, withholding tax, and the payment terms that work.

The short answer

Your invoice should show your licensed name and permit number, your UAE tax registration number if you have one, the client's full company name and Nigerian tax ID, a clear description of the service and period, the currency and amount, the VAT treatment and the payment details and due date. Add a line on Nigerian withholding tax so the client knows whether to deduct it and to send you the receipt.

Why invoices to Nigeria need more care

A Nigerian company paying a supplier abroad has its own paperwork to satisfy. If it pays in foreign currency, its bank will ask for the contract and invoice; Stanbic IBTC's published list for service payments, for example, includes the service agreement, an invoice or demand note and evidence of tax paid on the amount being remitted. The company will also deduct withholding tax if it applies. An invoice that leaves out the client's details, the service period or the tax treatment slows all of that down, and slow paperwork means late payment.

The fields to include

FieldWhy it matters
Your name as on your licence, and permit or licence numberShows the client and its bank who is being paid and that you are licensed
Your UAE address and emailNeeded on the client's vendor record
UAE TRN, if VAT-registeredRequired if you charge or zero-rate VAT
Client's registered company name, address and RC numberMatches the CAC record the bank and tax office will check
Client's tax ID (TIN) and purchase order numberLets the client match your invoice to its records and its withholding tax return
Invoice number and dateSequential numbering helps both sides and any tax review
Description, period and quantity"Brand design, phase 2, 1 to 30 September", not "services"
Currency and amountState USD or NGN clearly; never both without saying which governs
VAT lineZero-rated, standard-rated or "not registered for VAT"
Withholding tax noteGross fee, and request for the WHT receipt if tax is deducted
Payment details and due dateAccount name, number, bank, SWIFT or Nigerian account details; due date in days

Mistakes that delay payment

Invoicing the marketing manager by name instead of the company; using the brand name rather than the registered name on the CAC record; leaving out the purchase order number the client's finance team asked for; and sending a PDF with bank details that differ from the ones in your contract. The last one is also what invoice fraudsters exploit, so tell clients your account details will never change by email alone.

VAT: what to put on the line

If you are not registered for UAE VAT, say so and do not add VAT. The Ministry of Finance sets mandatory registration at AED 375,000 of taxable supplies and imports, with voluntary registration from AED 187,500. If you are registered, the same ministry lists exports of services to outside the GCC among zero-rated supplies, so a service to a Nigerian company is usually shown at 0% with a note that it is an export, provided you keep evidence that the client is outside the GCC. Our guide to UAE VAT on Nigerian clients sets out the evidence.

On the Nigerian side, PwC's tax summary (reviewed May 2026) says Nigeria applies a reverse charge to imported services where no Nigerian tax invoice is issued, meaning the client may account for Nigerian VAT itself. That is the client's obligation, not a line on your invoice, but expect the question.

Withholding tax: invoice gross, ask for the receipt

Under Nigeria's 2024 withholding tax regulations, as PwC and Mondaq summarise them, a Nigerian company paying professional, consultancy, technical or management fees to a non-resident deducts 10%, and the rate can double where the supplier has no Nigerian tax ID. Write your invoice at the gross fee. If you want to receive the full amount, agree a gross-up in the contract before work starts, not on the invoice afterwards.

Worked example (illustrative)

You invoice a Lagos company USD 2,000 for a month's design work. If it deducts 10% withholding tax, it pays you USD 1,800 and sends you a receipt for USD 200 of tax deducted. To receive USD 2,000 after a 10% deduction, the gross fee would have to be about USD 2,222.22 (2,000 ÷ 0.9). Our guide to Nigerian WHT on your UAE invoice covers what to do with the receipt.

Currency and payment terms

  • Choose one currency per contract. If you price in USD, say whether the client may pay the naira equivalent and at which rate and date; see naira or dollars.
  • Set a due date in days, such as 14 or 30, and state it on every invoice.
  • Ask for a deposit on new clients or long projects.
  • State who bears bank charges on international transfers (for example, "all charges paid by sender").

For the Nigerian side of the same paperwork, our Nigeria library has an invoice checklist.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme Invoicing lets a Business Account holder, including one based in the UAE, issue invoices with NGN or USD payment details, so a Nigerian client can pay locally into your account. The Finance agent prepares invoices, reminders and reconciliations for you to approve, and receipts can be issued as verifiable documents through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai; see receipts.

Questions people ask

Should I charge VAT to a Nigerian client from the UAE?

If you are VAT-registered, services exported outside the GCC are listed as zero-rated by the UAE Ministry of Finance. If you are not registered, do not add VAT.

What should a UAE freelancer's invoice to a Nigerian company include?

Your licensed name and number, TRN if registered, the client's registered name, RC number and TIN, a specific description and period, currency, VAT treatment, a withholding tax note and payment details.

Will my Nigerian client deduct tax from my invoice?

Often yes. The 2024 regulations set 10% on professional and similar fees paid to non-residents, as summarised by PwC. Ask for the receipt.

Can I invoice a Nigerian client in dollars?

Yes, but say so clearly and agree whether naira payment is allowed and at what rate.
