Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Investment Box from the US: funding it in naira

How a US-based customer gets naira into an Investment Box, what the money does once it is there, and the US records to keep along the way.

The short answer

From the US you fund an Investment Box with naira already in your Pryme account: either you convert dollars with Swap, where the rate is shown first and the fee on its own line before you approve, or someone pays naira into your account from Nigeria. Money in the Box funds lending by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, including Loans on Spaces, so your return depends on how that lending performs, the rate is shown in the app, and the money is held to maturity.

What an Investment Box is

Pryme has four kinds of Savings Box, all Naira-only and all for naira held in Nigeria: Flexible, Fixed, Investment and Interest-free. The Investment Box is the one whose money is put to work. Naira deposits on Pryme are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN, and Investment Box money funds that bank's lending, including Loans on Spaces, the credit customers can spend only with merchants in Pryme's Spaces ecosystem. The Nigeria library explains the mechanics in how saving that funds lending works.

Getting naira into the Box from the US

Personal and Business accounts can be opened from any country. One account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, each with its own local account details, and money stays in the currency it arrived in until you choose to convert. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Route 1: from your own dollars

  1. Pay dollars into the USD details in your Pryme account from your US bank.
  2. Open Swap and choose USD to NGN. The rate is shown first and the fee on its own line.
  3. Approve, or wait. Nothing converts until you approve.
  4. Create the Investment Box, read the rate and maturity shown in the app, and move the naira in.

Route 2: naira already in Nigeria

If a relative, tenant or business partner pays you in naira, they can send it to your NGN account details from any Nigerian bank. You then move it into the Box with no conversion at all. This suits people who earn rent in Nigeria and want it working without bringing it to the US.

Things to weigh before you commit

  • It is lending, not a deposit you can withdraw any day. Your return depends on how the bank's lending performs, and the money is held to maturity. Choose a maturity date you are confident you will not need the money before.
  • It is in naira. If you will eventually want dollars, the naira's movement against the dollar over the term affects what you end up with. See how naira returns compare after currency moves.
  • Tax in Nigeria. A 10% withholding tax has been deducted from bank and fintech savings interest since January 2026 (BusinessDay, February 2026). Check in the app how tax is shown on your Box.
  • Tax in the US. US citizens and residents are taxed on worldwide income (IRS Publication 54), so returns from the Box are reported in dollars at the rate when received (IRS foreign currency page).

US records to keep

Naira held in Nigeria is generally treated as a foreign account for US reporting. The FBAR applies if your foreign accounts together exceed $10,000 at any time in a year, and Form 8938 has higher thresholds that depend on where you live and how you file (IRS comparison chart, September 2026). Keep, for each year:

  • Every Swap: date, dollars, naira, rate and fee.
  • The Box's start date, maturity date and the return credited.
  • Year-end balances. A verifiable statement generated with VerifyDoc.ai gives your accountant a record anyone can check is genuine.

A worked example

Example only. Rates and amounts are illustrations, not Pryme figures. Ada in Minneapolis receives ₦400,000 a month rent from a flat in Abuja into her NGN account. Rather than convert it, she opens an Investment Box each quarter with ₦1,200,000, choosing a maturity date that matches her next planned trip home. She keeps her dollar savings in the US. Her accountant receives her Pryme statements once a year to prepare her FBAR and Schedule B.

Who it suits, and who it does not

SuitsProbably not for
People with naira income or naira goals in NigeriaMoney you may need in dollars at short notice
Savers who accept that return depends on lending performanceAnyone who needs a fixed, guaranteed return
Those who can leave the money until maturityAn emergency fund

Investment Box or Fixed Box?

Both hold naira to a date. The difference is what the money does: a Fixed Box is a savings deposit held to maturity, while Investment Box money funds the bank's lending, so its return depends on that lending. If the money has a job on a fixed date, such as school fees, a Fixed Box keeps that job simple. If you have naira you will not need for a while and accept the lending risk, the Investment Box is the one built for that.

For a naira goal with a fixed date, compare a Fixed Box. For more on the Box itself, see how the Investment Box works for US customers.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme Financial Ltd is a technology company, not a bank. Your Personal Assistant can remind you when a Box matures and prepare the next step, but nothing moves without your approval. Information only, not investment advice.

Questions people ask

Can I open a Pryme Investment Box from the US?

Yes. Personal Accounts can be opened from any country, and the Box is funded with naira in your account.

How do I get naira into the Investment Box?

Convert dollars with Swap, which shows the rate and fee before you approve, or receive naira from someone in Nigeria into your NGN account details.

What does the Investment Box earn?

The rate is shown in the app. Returns depend on the lending by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, including Loans on Spaces, that the money funds.

Can I withdraw early from an Investment Box?

The money is held to maturity, so choose a date you are confident you will not need it before.
